NYC assassination news thread - Please no politics (1 Viewer)

lol... I didn't even read my own post- saw PA and immediately went down to the pimple on the *** of NYC. good pickup, thanks!
I didn't even realize there was a PA terminal up there.
at the GW Bridge.

as Sammy says, he could've just taken the bike up there... and over the bridge for that matter.

Strange he's relying on public transportation though.

Way he handled a gun, according to tv experts, implies he's got the minimals. taking a bike to a cab to a bus to escape, not so much.
there aren't that many places to go from that PA terminal besides NJ especially at that hour. I'm guessing he put a car in a park and ride at one of the stops. If so, they'll find him or the car pretty quickly.

I would be sending out his photos to every shooting range/gun club in the country
How many guys know how to really handle the weapon he used in this murder? Just asking

The photo in the coffee shop looked like possibly blue eyes and it was a pretty clear shot of the top half of his face
This other photo that is supposed to be the murderer, it looks like it was taken at a hotel/airport/bus terminal, not sure where that popped up but it looks like a different jacket
He might have changed clothes
Did they find the back pack that people say was tossed away?

I'm betting they slow down with information released to the public, if they're lucky they already know the name of the suspect but don't want to let that out just yet
Does this guy not have a mom/dad, brother/sister, ex-gf/bf that might want to let the police know who they are looking for?
You know if you are related to this man and you don't call him in, the authorities are likely to knock on your door before or after they find him

I'm mildly surprised we didn't see his arrest already when the face photos were released
I also wondered if he got out of the country quickly but I think they would have had the airports on major lockdown looking for this guy trying to fly out of NYC for say Europe on the first available flight, maybe too risky.

And maybe he wants to get caught
Why would the authorities come knocking after he is caught?
Because someone who is related to this crazy person should already know it's him
They should be calling the police with at least the name of the person even if they don't know his whereabouts
They're gonna come knock and start probing to see if others helped him plan all this.

The Unabomber's brother turned him in and they never had an actual photo of him to show the public, just a composite sketch which btw, can't they get one of those out with the photos they have and make a clean full face composite to help ID him?
So now we are all compelled to assist with police investigations?

A very real scenario could be that the motive behind the shooting was because of denied coverage for a family member. If that’s the case the family might either be sympathetic to the shooter or even in on the whole thing for all we know.

Are you for harboring or helping assist a family member in a criminal case?

And that is exactly why the police will come knocking...LOUDLY I might add

I still feel like this guy was a pro and is gone. The fact he arrived 10 days early, had a very good escape route and seemed to not have a care in the world suggests this wasn't his first rodeo. I feel like I'm witnessing a movie almost.
I think we all have watched too many movies. I can’t imagine a “pro” risking the chance of 1000 things that could have gone wrong in broad daylight like this. A pro would snipe him from across the street or shoot him while he was sleeping or when he was in his car late at night.
Probably somewhere in between. Not a Jason Bourne type pro, but he did his homework and is many orders more intelligent than the average criminal.
Agreed, he has firearms familiarity, but a pro would have been point blank with the first shot if a pistol was the chosen method.

The original reporting said the victim was shot in the calf. Is this true? Might be a clue that hints back to motive.

I would agree if it were a snubnose .38 special or whatnot. But at the barrel length I'm seeing, that's a pretty easy shot for even a novice, nevermind a pro.

Yeah...so we have quite a list of folks in the family on my wife's side that have criminal history we'll say and they aren't very good at not getting caught
I wouldn't take a single second of heat over any of them and they know it. One time we had a family get together on a boat, this was maybe 10-15 yrs ago and it was one of those casino/buffet type things and everyone had a good time until the bills started coming and a couple of them wanted to skip out...I walked them back on to the ship and emptied their pockets of all their money and counted out every last single dollar to the ship and told them don't ever try a stunt like that when I'm around or my name is involved.

We don't steal, it's a basic Commandment and one that isn't hard to comprehend
And i didn't call the police on them

- Multiple health insurance companies taking precautions to protect employees --- making live meetings virtual instead, having employees work from home instead of in the office, taking down pictures and names of employees from company websites, hiring more security.
This seems a little much imo.

You'd be surprised. Steve Bartman who was the most hated man in Chicago worked at my company which was based just outside the city. We had tons of security at our headquarters and changed up a lot of protocols given all the death threats he was receiving. I really felt bad for :nerd:

Oh man, bet you have some stories. What was he like? Poor guy.

Still can’t believe we’ve made it through another day and this guy is still on the loose.

It was a pretty big company so I never met the guy. Heard he was quiet and friendly from folks on his team. IIRC he was a junior actuarial just a few years out of college. They pretty much had him in hiding not only for the death threats but because almost everyone in the company was passing by his cubical hoping for the chance encounter.

Bartman obviously didn’t know situational baseball.

Too bad working from home wasn’t commonplace then.

“This isn’t ‘Blue Bloods.’ We’re not going to solve this in 60 minutes. We’re painstaking going through every bit of evidence that we can come across. Eventually, when an apprehension is made, we will have to present all of these facts to a judge and jury, so we’re taking our time, doing it right and making sure we’re going to get justice for this victim and closure for his family.”

I dunno about 60 minutes but they better solve it in the First 48.

If their latest update 72 hours later is "they think he left New York", I'm thinking this guy got away with it.

IMO, any expectation that they get this guy is at a minimum right now.

How the hell don't we have a name address dob right now?
He’s gone
Fine, but we have a clear picture of his face. If he's an American, they have to know who he is. If he's still in the country, he'll be caught fairly soon.

Not a good look for NYPD at all. At some point I’d bet they get him but to murder someone and make it free this long is not good.

There's a smudged fingerprint, possibly DNA on the water bottle and I would be shocked if there's no DNA evidence on the backpack. If there's enough photo evidence to build a facial recognition profile he will eventually be found. Big brother is getting bigger every year.

Saw the pictures for the first time. My immediate thought is thats the largest nose bridge I’ve ever seen. The brazen manner in which he doesn’t hide his face makes me wonder if he’s wearing some form of mask.

I had similar thoughts like this dude would really be playing 4D chess if he only shows his face once only to reveal a fake one. I don't think that's the case but that would be impressive :ninja:

DNA will only get a hit if he has a record or they already have him as a possible suspect

What if he has a family member in one of the DNA registries? That’s how they finally got DeAngelo years later.

There have been murderers and rapists identified this way.

He’s gone
Fine, but we have a clear picture of his face. If he's an American, they have to know who he is. If he's still in the country, he'll be caught fairly soon.
There's a smudged fingerprint, possibly DNA on the water bottle and I would be shocked if there's no DNA evidence on the backpack. If there's enough photo evidence to build a facial recognition profile he will eventually be found. Big brother is getting bigger every year.
DNA will only get a hit if he has a record or they already have him as a possible suspect
What if he has a family member in one of the DNA registries? That’s how they finally got DeAngelo years later.
There have been murderers and rapists identified this way.
That didn't already have their DNA on file?

If their latest update 72 hours later is "they think he left New York", I'm thinking this guy got away with it.

IMO, any expectation that they get this guy is at a minimum right now.

Yes by family members doing ancestry DNA. It all goes into a data base and if one of his distant cousins has done a DNA test a genealogy detective will come up with a list of suspects to get DNA samples from. Warrants have been issued compelling suspects to provide DNA in this manner.

Its strange to me in these situations that people expect the police to provide live public updates on the details of their investigation, including revealing all the evidence they've gathered and all the leads they're chasing. There have been a few cases where the police caught someone by issuing false public statements or statements that set traps. In this case I'd be fine if they say nothing further until an arrest has been made.

Wow...weird. I copied and pasted it directly from the article. I guess Adams wasn't supposed to say it.

Near the bottom of the article they speak as if he has been ID'd:

It’s not immediately clear how police identified him, but they were poring through hundreds of tips from the public, officials said.

Exactly. Imagine the 5 closest people in your life. If you saw their photo exactly like the suspect in this case, you would immediately say “OMG, that’s my friend Billy.”

Which means somewhere out there, a bunch of people immediately knew who this guy was once they saw the photo. And even if they didn’t want to “rat out a friend” at least 1-2 of those folks want to call CNN and get paid money to go on the air and say “hey, my friend Billy from my volleyball league is the killer.”
