***OFFICIAL 2009 NFL DRAFT*** (4 Viewers)

great deal by the Browns I must say
Really? To move down TWELVE spots in the first round and to only pick up a 2nd rounder this year? Not great by any means.
They also got a starting DE for a team that needs a DE.
They probably got 2 defensive starters, a back-up for when they trade either Quinn or Anderson, and an extra pick.
Yup, I hate Clev but this was a good deal for them.
I think they want a rush backer and probably figured someone like English or Maybin at #17 would be as good (or close to it) as Orakpo and at a much lesser price.

Mayock called this today in his mock: http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/04/25/mayock-unveils-mock-draft/

Faletti/Bloom and DraftGuys called it earlier as well:

If Darrius Heyward-Bay goes #7 to Oakland…

Remember who had the first mock in the country with this pick.

His speed/size combo is an aphrodisiac to Al Davis, but that doesn’t mean he’s just a combine warrior. We talked with a knowledgeable Maryland fan in the Draft line last night, and he couldn’t have been more sold on Heyward-Bay and his prospects for success in the NFL. He felt DH-B was “misused” at Maryland, and that his game was more complete than they gave him a chance to show.

Unfortunately, you have to wonder if the Raiders would be much better.

Good luck to the Jets with this.
I agree. I think it was an awful trade for the Jets, and I love it. Even if you grade the 3 players that they gave up as 6th round quality, they gave up a 1st, 2nd and 3 6th round picks for a QB that has started 16 games at the collegiate level.I also think Elam and Ratliffe are better than 6th round quality (dont know about Coleman), and Mangini knows exactly what he is getting - at least as well as they guys giving them up. Probably more the equivalent of a 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th. Thats a lot of peeps for one guy.

I think it's a terrible deal for the Browns. Trading from 5 to 17 and only getting a 2nd, a middle of the road QB prospect and a couple of journeymen doesn't seem like nearly enough to me.
It's more than the teams in front of them trying to trade got.
