This year the draft is full of 2nd / 3rd tier talent, so this made total sense.The question is, is any other GM taking notes? Anyone? Several did make pre-draft moves (PHI, KC, CHI) but still........and then there is DEN and OAK.

On the plus side of things, there should be a lot of good qb's to choose from next season. If the Panthers regress from this past year it could end up being a very nice pick.

Haven't followed Pat White at all really, very confused why the Fins take him here. I understand that we need more offensive players that are of NFL quality, but this just seems like an add to the wildcat which was less effective as the year continued.
I love what detroit is doing; 1) draft Pettrigrew--this helps the entire offense. It helps stafford, smith, Calvin Johnson, and the O-Line. Great pick. 2) Delmas could be a defensive leader of the new regime for A decade. 3) Schwart must have some plan for the O-Line. I can see them keeping at least three positions (Backus, Riola (sp), Cherlius) of the line intact 4) the ongoing theme of the draft is that stars come from every round.
I also marvel at the Pats STILL. They have multiple picks with the best value.
The dolphins just picked up Pat White. Great pick. Someone said that the wildcat is a fad. It is league wide but it will stick with certain coaches. Mel Kiper is dead wrong about his value at QB. I could see him as the cornerstone of practically a quarter of a playbook. That isn't even considering if he ever actually is a starting QB. It would be a waste of talent and hence value to not try him at QB. Chad Henne is still unproven and if he fails why not Pat White if he is still viable in 3 to four years?

if you think Pettigrew would have made it more than 5 picks longer than #20, you are doing it all very wrong.and he helps everyone on Offense...Kevin Smith is very happy, Stafford is very happy, Backus is very happy...he upgrades run blocking, adds a great threat on O, and will also protect the QB. it was a great pick.odd no other TEs have been drafted yet...good thing the lions stepped upi and grabbed one before other teams caught on!

See I'm very excited about Pat White... Explosive with the ball in his hands and we have a creative OC who can do that.Also, there were several times that we ran the WildCat with Ronnie Brown where we had a WR/TE/RB running free and he just couldn't get him the ball (Week 17 vs. the Jets comes to mind immediately). That won't happen anymore if Pat White is back there.I really really like this pick.

Buffalo would have certainly drafted Pettigrew at #28. But was he a reach for the Lions at #20? Yes probably. He's a first round talent and it's doubtful he would have slipped to 2.1.odd no other TEs have been drafted yet...good thing the lions stepped upi and grabbed one before other teams caught on!

i think this is a great pick for them. yes, the wildcat does play a part in the decision-making there but he's a terrific athlete. he can learn "proper" QBing from chad a year or so. he's very capable. this is a good fit.

If the NFL loses its salary cap from now on, everyone else in the league should just fold and hand the keys to New England. They already dominate in a salary cap era and with Kraft's deep pockets, they would crush everyone without a salary cap. It'd be like the Yankees only with the ability to properly evaluate talent and put together a team.

I think Pat White is going to be an excellent pick. Kid has a good arm and very quick. I think he's even better than Michael Vick was back when he was coming out of college. Not quite as fast, but much more accurate, and just as dangerous. Being a Michigan fan, I don't think Chad Henne is going to be much. I could see Pat White beating him out in the next year or two...

I see them lining him up wide, or behind the QB and swinging him out, and doing some flea flicker type passes. Their talent on offense right now just took a spike - Ronnie, Ricky, Ted Ginn, Pat White - all are real exciting with the ball in their hands.

Not impressed with Loadholt. Guy looks does not have athleticism, and is going to really struggle as a pass blocker in the pros. Beatty really needs to gain strength in the run game, but he is an excellent pass blocker.

I just think it's very obvious that Mayhew and Schwartz know that they aren't going to fix this thing in one year and are therefore taking BPA no matter the position, because they can upgrade everywhere. Which means they are taking a very reasoned approach to all of this and not hamstringing themselves by locking into a position rather than a player - unlike their predecessor who was obsessed with getting "weapons." If he is going to be an added weapon to add to the O then I like this pick. If we are drafting him to be groomed at QB(after drafting Henne last year and Beck the year before that) then I am not a big fan.
