***OFFICIAL 2009 NFL DRAFT*** (3 Viewers)

I am not one to question the Patriots, but that seems early for Tate. Bum knee and some drug issues. Seemed like he would fall further than that.

Brandon Tate is a very nice upside pick for the Pats. If he can completely recover from his injuries he will be a great asset to the team down the road. Players with off field problems make me nervous however.

Draftguys has Urbik ranked as the best guard. I guess this is a pretty darn good pick for the 3rd round?
Mayock on NFLN was crushing this guy for being slow-footed and having to hold a lot.
In 1-on-1 drills. He said it was a completely different story in games.
Oh good, so as long as the Steelers give him help on every play, he'll be fine.
That's not what he said.

From DraftCountdown:

Mike Wallace

Height: 6-03/8 | Weight: 199 | 40-Time: 4.33

Official Bio

Strengths:

Outstanding speed...Excellent athlete...Dangerous vertical threat...Is quick and agile in space...Solid ball skills...Adequate height and bulk...Is tougher than he's given credit for...Also a terrific return man.

Weaknesses:

Average instincts and awareness...Not a great route runner...Doesn't have natural hands and drops some balls...Gives okay effort but isn't much of a blocker..Will struggle to beat the jam...Average production.

Notes:

First name is actually "Burnell"...A three-year starter in the SEC for the Rebels...Holds the Ole Miss records for single-game, season and career kickoff return yardage and ranks second all-time in all-purpose yardage...Led the SEC in yards per reception in both 2007 and 2008...Doesn't profile as a starter at the next level but he will keep defenses honest with his deep speed and contribute on special teams.

4.33 is damn fast.

Speaking of WRs, whatever happened to Patrick Turner from USC?

Yes, he referred to blocking in a phone booth, in which case he'd be fine. Who on the Steelers will be responsible for lugging the phone booth around?

You do understand the difference between "working in space" like a LT and working as an "interior linemen"?In drills you work by yourself in space. In game applications guards can be guards, and not have to pretend to be tackles. Its a little thing we call "Football".
He's yapping just to yap.

I shouldn't be surprised that you have your OL alibis down after watching your OL play last year. I won't try to out piss a racehorse any more.

What do those who know more than I do (pretty much all of you) know about Patrick Turner?
He was expected to be another Dwayne Jarrett or Mike Williams for USC, but was a slow developer as a WR and he dropped a lot of passes. He improved a lot his senior year. He's large and atheletic, but as with those other two guys the questions about him will be his quickness and ability to gain separation, and how disciplined his route running will be.My impression was that he was expected to drop into the ~5th round or so.

Coming in to college, he was not only the #1 WR, but the #1 player in the entire nation. But he didn't work hard his first couple years at USC; he sucked at route running, didn't pay attention to catching balls. In his junior year he got better, and his senior year he shined.I see him as similar in the NFL to that big receiver from the Chargers- can't think of his name at the moment.

pats trade pick to titans
Get another 2nd rounder for next year... Can't really complain with what the Pats are doing in this draft. I would like to see them get a linebacker but I am real happy we got Darius Butler.

Vincent Jackson?

Has to be. That's pretty much the extent of his upside. Again, his downside is that of Jarrett or Mike Williams.

You have to think they are looking at their roster and assessing the plausibility of how many rookies can make their squad. Picking up a couple extra 2nd rounders next year is an excellent move.

Eagles trade with the Giants for an extra 5th :wall: , move 8 spots down, and then Jared Cook goes before their pick so they trade out AGAIN to the Seahawks, indicating [to me] that they tried to gamble on Cook being there later and now they lost the guy they should've grabbed this round.

wonderful move by PatsTitans must really like that TE. They drafted a TE last year that couldn't crack the Scaife and Alge lineup plus they had that guy(can't think of his name now) that was Alge's backup in Atlanta. They must love Cook to trade up for him despite all their depth.

Yeah, that's the guy, thanks. They have about the same size and build, I think.

Apparently the Bears wanted Mitchell at #49 and traded out when they couldn't get him.Interesting.-QG
Still not a great pick. Pretty much just means the Raiders saved the Bears from making the biggest reach of the day. But there's a bunch of D-Bags running around the Shark Pool that can get bent.(OK, being a little sensitive)

I love the Patriots draft philosophy, how are they able to do this every year?

I don't mind the Titans trading to get Cook, he'll be a force in their offense, but how is it that New England is the team that constantly makes these trades to get higher picks next year? Are no other teams willing to do it - instead they all focus on this year?

The first 5 picks and NO lineman on either side of the ball. :wall: :wall: :wall:
I'm feelin' ya, Tony. I don't dislike the players they're picking, but I am still scratching my head over the Lions' apparent infatuation with the Badgers. Levy? Lot of ways I wish they would've gone with that pick.

New England is so smart. They are so smart. I hate them, but I really admire them. Next year's draft is going to have TONS of talent, and the Patriots will own it. Has there ever been a better guy at this stuff than Bellichick?

Seattle doesn't have a pick until the 6th now, are they really going to roll with Julius Jones/Duckett this season at RB?

After a masterful Day 1 of the draft, Eagles start off Day 2 with a major blunder.Several quality TEs left, but I too believe that Cook is something special.

Last 13 picks:

6 WR

5 CB

Talk about a run!

So wait, we have no picks now until the 5th round? :wall:

I guess we're going to be fine with Celek, Schobel and some journeyman plodder at TE.

Since when are the Eagles adept at addressing their needs for offensive skill positions through the draft? You need to be patient here, Jason. Inside of a decade I feel certain that they will have upgraded their TE position.
