Mark my words: don't be surprised, if Danny decides to make wholesale changes, that he brings aboard none other than Joe Theismann to either work alongside Vinny as Director of Pro Player Personnel, OR replace him as VP of Football Ops entirely......and you didn't hear this from me...

It's really sad what's going on. Zorn deserved a shot as an Offensive Co-ordinator, sure...but it's becoming increasingly apparent that, as a Head Coach, with no prior experience as a Co-ordinator, he's in way over his head. Strangely enough, the 'in over his head' part is only glaringly obvious on Game Day. The way I'm hearing it, he runs good practices, has good rapport and communication with the Coaches and Players...everything going on away from the field (the Game Day field) is actually going pretty close to a 'normal' football organization during the week leading up to the Game......there's good reason why things are done the way they typically are in the NFL - you move from excelling as a Position Coach into a Co-ordinatorship, and then onto Head Coach, and a critical part of that process is 'Time Served' in the previous role, just to have a better idea of what the job in front of you entails.I hear Zorn is doing fine during the week, and I hear that come GameDay, he's just simply overwhelmed, because he doesn't have anyone on the Coaching Staff that he trusts with his 'life' to delegate things to, like an experienced Head Coach would. Sherman Smith and Stump Mitchell have no more experience than he does, Blache has his hands full with the D, and Danny Smith, is, well, Danny Smith the Special Teams Coach...for good reason. It's like a vicious circle: Zorn knows he's under scrutiny and pressure from above, and his job security is in doubt if things don't soon improve...he's trying to be in control of more than he's capable of because he feels if he hands stuff over to someone else, and it fails, he'll be taken to task for it anyway. As a result, he's trying to manage too many things, and it's distracting him from simply managing the Game, to the point where mere Danny Smith the Special Teams Coach - who is no more qualified to be a Head Coach than anyone else on the current staff, make no mistake - has to point out things like Time Out Clock Management. What Zorn needs most of all is a Mentor that he can trust, and bounce ideas off of on Game Day while the Game is in progress, someone to delegate things to, or at least keep him clued in on how a Head Coach needs to run things...in that regard, what I personally think the 'Shark Move' would be by Snyder and Co. would be to bring in Mike Holmgren to act in that capacity, since the Holmgren and Zorn already have a prior relationship from Seattle. I did a brief search and uncovered nothing that would lead me to believe that the relationship between the two is anything but solid......maybe along the way, the Mentor Holmgren clues Zorn in to the fact that he's in over his head and not ready for the Role yet, but under Holmgren's tutelage, might one day be...voila, Holmgren is named Head Coach after this Season, with Zorn as his Offensive Co-ordinator......and I don't have a problem with that.
