I'd bet it's already too late for that. The only question now is if Zorn gets whacked during the season rather than after the season. It'd take a deep run into the playoffs to save his backside, and that's probably too bad because he'd have been a good HC with a few years of being an OC first.

sad thing is, if he gets canned he's back to a QB coach, I don't see him getting an OC job without working his way back to it.
 
I think we're going to blow out the Lions. Hell, we might even score 30+ points.

Everyone in the media is picking the Lions to end their losing streak this week. Whenever the media as a whole jocks an underdog this hard they usually lose. Big time.

It's a weird feeling as I have found myself split on the outcome of the Detroit game. I truly feel that if they fall flat on their faces vs. DET, that Zorn will be gone. I never want my team to lose, but the part of me that wants the organization to do now than later...basically, if they are going fire Zorn at any point, get over with and let's start going towards the direction that we are going to go in. Problem with that is, the 'Skins have to lose to the Lions to make is happen.

The other part of me, wants us to get on track and beat the Lions to a pulp. I mean, find our groove and build the confidence that can carry us through the next games or season. I true feeling of "We can beat anyone because our O is clicking on all cylinders and our D can lay some wood." At minimum, it would give us fans a break from all this feeling of doom and gloom.

So, here I am finding myself in one of the oddest situations that I can remember as a fan. Why put off tomorrow when you can do it today or sprout and bloom into what was visioned at the onset of this tenure.

Anyone else find themselves in the same situation?

I only want to see Zorn out sooner than later if he is bad coach. I think that has yet to be determined. Every game from here on out will help draw those conclusions. I am hoping we blow out the Lions, Bucs, Panthers, Chiefs, Eagles, Falcons, Broncos, Cowboys, Eagles, Saints, Raiders, Giants, Cowboys, and Chargers. I know it won't happen like that, but there is a very real possibility to use the next three games as spring board to become a very good team that has a chance. This time 2 years ago all Giants fans were calling for Coughlin and ShEli's head. That worked out alright for them. I am not ready to give up. Lose to the Lions though..........

I agree, sorta. I think the team will play with a chip on its shoulder given that they just got booed off of the field and everyone is picking the Lions. I think they win comfortably, but more to the tune of 24-14.
 
If the first 2 or 3 Redskin possessions end in 3-and-out, they're going to be so tight they won't poop until New Years.

 
First of all the Redskins need to spread it out in goal line situations and give Campbell the freedom to make decisions. So far this year it is evident that the Redskins’ offensive line is not a dominant unit. The two tight end heavy formations that the Redskins are known for haven’t been giving Portis, or anyone else, the push to get the tough yards.

A change of strategy is in order. Spreading a defense out with three or four receiver sets will do many things that could help this team. Clinton Portis had his greatest success running for a zone blocking scheme in Denver. Spreading it out gives Portis more cutback options and space to create.

A spread formation dictates that the defense must switch from goal line packages to nickel coverage. This puts a less powerful team on the field and could help give the Redskins the push that they need in the running game.

Spreading it out also takes defenders away from the line of scrimmage and could create opportunities for Campbell to use a QB draw. Even if a draw is not designed it would give Campbell more space to improvise if a play breaks down. Campbell’s mobility hasn’t been effectively utilized in the red zone and this could be the formation that may best utilize his instincts.

Skins' players have to be really annoyed so may people are prediciting the Lions to break their losing streak against them. They have to be uber motivated to proof them otherwise.

There isn’t much history to go on to determine which way the Zorn-coached Redskins will go. They faced such a firestorm from all angles when they suffered a nine-point loss at the home of the Super Bowl champion Giants in Zorn’s very first game as head coach. For no rational reason members of the media were talking about the team getting the top pick in the draft. The message boards exploded with talk of Zorn being run out of town soon, to be followed by Jason Campbell.

They bounced back from all of that to beat four pretty good teams in succession. The Skins rallied to beat the Saints, held off the Cardinals and then went on the road to beat Dallas and the Eagles. One would have to say that they bounced back from that set of adversity.

Another low point came when Zorn declared that he was “the worst coach in America” after the Redskins lost to the lowly Bengals in December. The Redskins came out the following week and beat the Eagles in a game that Philadelphia desperately needed to control its destiny in the playoff race.

In those two instances the team rebounded well. But that’s not enough history to say with any degree of certainty that they will bounce back this week. It does however, weight the coin toss. The chances are slightly better that the Redskins will circle the wagons than they are that they won’t.

The score came with a major assist from “Wee Willie” Wilkin. With Washington trailing 5-0 in the third quarter the Lions lined up to punt. Ace Gutowsky had the unenviable task of attempting to block the 240-pound Wilkin. At the snap, Wilkin slammed into Gutowsky and drove him back, so far back that the punt went off the back of the blocker’s helmet and out of bounds at the Lion 17. Soon after, the Redskins were at the one-foot line. Farkas gained six inches on each of his two carries from there and the Redskins held on for the 7-5 win.

Rumors flying that Portis will barely be used. I doubt it. It think once he gets in there he will keep it going, or why play him at all? Better to let him sit out if they only plan on giving him a light work.

Aldridge is active over Mason.

Marko is inactive effectively having Smoot take his spot. Looks like he will need a RB to get cut to stay active every week. 4 active RBs seems excessive.

If the game is close I'd expect them to lift Portis with a crane if necessary and put him on the field. There is a HUGE feeling that the Redskins cannot afford to lose this game.

***NEW*** 9/27/09: Clinton Portis is too be used "sparingly" against the Lions today. Expect to see Betts in the backfield, and some Alridge. Also expect Zorn to use the same kind of game plan against the Lions as he did the Rams. Which is to throw more then run, and I have been told the red zone offense will look very different.

for once, Snyder SHOULD fire his coach right away. I think he learned with Spurrier that once a coach shows he's over his head, he's over his head. Nothing is going to change. Our play calling sucks, and the team doesn't seem inspired to me, AT ALL.

 
I wouldn't go to a Redskins game for free. I am ashamed to be a fan of this organization. I've had so many people call/text to rub this loss in. Pathetic.

Zorn should be fired, we need a new QB, and a GM needs to be put in place that can distance Snyder from the operations of this team. Peter Angelos is almost as bad as Snyder, but when Andy McPhail came on board as the GM, Angelos gave him complete control on how to run the team. That is what we need more than anything.

Blache and Bugel need to go too. They have gotten free passes for too long. No pressure on Stafford. Insane 3rd down ratio for the Lions, and no turnovers. On the other hand, Campbell is getting pressure from a bunch of nobodies.

You know what really sucks? I'm not upset about the loss or the way the they played. I hope I'm not losing my passion for the team, but right now I feel very little.

Did you guys hear Strahan flat out say that the team had quit on Zorn on the half-time show? Did anyone hear any of the ESPN980 post game show and specifically Hanrahan say the same thing? I missed the CSN postgame show, but I bet BMitch also said that.

Zorn's wife ought to call a real estate agent now and get the house on the market, because they ain't gonna be living in DC very much longer.

 
Anyone see how the Vikings-49ers game ended? Exact same situation as the Redskins, only the Vikings ran a play into the endzone...and scored...AND WON!!!!!! Those crazy Vikings.

 
A rebuilding year wouldn't be so bad if we had a GM and coach that knew what they were doing. That's why my only hope is that Zorn, Vinny, maybe even Buges all get canned, and we get some people in here that know how to build a team. I'd take a 1-15 season this year just to see some real change and hope for the future...

IDK. I don't see them quitting. I see them as a team that appears to have no plan. I've been saying it for a while: this offense doesn't know what they want to be. And it shows.This is now officially a bad team. They get to face yet another bad team next week. It'll be another 50 years before this team gets a gift schedule to start a season like this one. And they're blowing it.
