Could the 4th quarter defensive lapses cost McDermott his job? Keep in mind it hasn't just been in the Titans games. They rank 20th in the league in points allowed. Was Jauron brought on board to be an assistant/DB coach, or insurance for a young, untested McDermott?

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, a former Eagles beat writer, recently told Mike Missanelli of 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia that McDermott could soon be done.

"There is no question about that," Paolantonio said, via Jordan Raanan of 97.5 The Fanatic. "It may be time for; I don't know how much input **** Jauron has in the defensive game plan, I'm sure he has quite a bit, but eventually they may have to make a switch there."

The defense fell apart in a 37-19 loss to the Titans, giving up 27 fourth-quarter points.

Johnson was great because he could make adjustments. We can't have 2 main coaches with an inability to adjust on both sides of the ball.

Sal is talking out his ###. No change is coming on the defensive side. Who drafted Brandon Graham? Why isn't he being used if he's so good? Why do they move him around so much that he has so much to learn? Too many questions and not enough answers. It's not the defensive coordinator's fault.

What are your thoughts on Vick starting over Kolb after the bye?

I thought he looked pretty good, better than he did in preseason and early in Week 1, especially with Djax out. I think the ugly loss didn't help his case, although he wasn't the guy getting beat for all those Td's.

I think Philadelphia is a more dangerous team at this point with a healthy Vick on the field. I also think he helps loosen things up for McCoy, so he helps the run game as well as the pass.

I agree...but you couldn't ask for things to line up any better.I mean...we have to play the Colts sometime this year. To have this game after our bye, at home, with them coming off a Monday night game? Reid is still unbeaten coming out of a bye......Redskins may be starting to flounder a little bit but unfortunately for us, they'll be coming out of their bye, playing at home. It might sound silly, but I'm a little more worried about Washington then I am the Colts at the moment. A split of these two games is probably realistic, but won't do much to clarify our post-season prospects.

Historically we don't play well against the AFC, especially against Manning. 0-3 and never a final score closer than 20 points. Even with Reid's unbeaten record after a bye, I don't see how we can hold Peyton down. Washington is in a state of disarray, who even knows if 5 will be a Skin in two weeks? They're a bad team with alot more issues then we have, I don't see us losing to them a second time this year. A loss against the Colts, and a win against the Skins is what I'm expecting.

Sal Pal was just on the Mikey Miss show and didn't really offer much when asked about him. He pretty much said he's heard good things about him in practice but that was really it. He'll be tested in many ways on Sunday that's for sure. I can't get a feel for this game. Parts of me feel we can take it like 27-21'ish.

good win yesterday. I don't care about the previous losses their offense has had this season, Indy was a loss on my calendar the day the season schedule came out. I am happy with the result. O-line still needs a lot of help; Vick hid a lot of sins yesterday.

Reid proved to me that he makes terrible game time decisions yesterday with that challenge to get a TD on the 5" line. In the 2 seconds it took to watch the replay I saw no indication that there was irrefutable proof to overturn the spot. You are literally on the goaline with a first down. There is no reason to even risk wasting a timeout! If you truly think that this offense can't get it done in four trys from that distance than there are bigger issues. Quit trying to overmanage/overmanipulate the game: you aren't that smart. Give the ball to Vick and let the Oline push the other team through the endzone. Totally frustrating.

Otherwise, feeling great about this team. Very nervous about the Sunday night game against NYG. This Oline had better start figuring themselves out.

Also, good luck to Collie, it sounds like there isn't any permanent damage.

I think that if Reid felt that he would win the challenge, he should throw the red flag regardless of the situation. The Steelers were in a similar position last week (from the 6 inch line), did not challenge what probably would have been a td and ended up having to kick a field goal. You just never know what can happen and should always take the points. The problem that I had was that there was no way Reid should have felt that he would win that challenge (given the replays). This seems to be a problem league wide with all the terrible challenges.

I would like to say that maybe he was thinking of taking a TO to get the offense set for that series anyway to make sure they didn't come away with only a FG again so figured he may as well use it with a challenge BUT we all saw the ineptitude a couple weeks back where they weren't ready with the play calls coming out of a review so who knows.

I have to be pleased with the outcome, particularly the play of the defense that really kept Manning out of sorts and got him off the field a lot in the 2nd half on 3rd down. I've never been one to blame the officials for the outcome of a game but in my 30+ years of watching NFL football I've NEVER felt like the fix was on more than yesterday. From where we were standing, neither major penalty against us was legitimate, and that was just the most egregious of what I thought was probably the worst officiated game I've ever attended.

The NFL REALLY has to do something about this new enforcement of hits because there is no way that hit on Collie could or should have been prevented. Coleman hit him WITH HIS SHOULDER as any kid is taught to tackle from jump street. It was a simultaneous play where no one...Manning or Collie or Coleman or Mikell or the 70K fans in the stands knew whether Collie had made the catch or not at that moment.

And that personal foul for roughing the passer on Manning? He LITERALLY got tapped in the back of the helmet with the defenders hand.

I'm just thrilled we managed to win regardless. Had we lost that game in the closing seconds after such a bush league job of officiating, I would have been sick to my stomach.

Yeah, those were brutal. TWO times we should have gotten a turnover and instead gave them 15 yards and a first down.The roughing the passer foul was actually (I think) right after the sack on him where someone got a hand up in front of him and made contact with his facemask which I was sure was going to be called for Manning, he got the next one though.Good thing we held on and won that game, I don't even want to think of what it would have been like at the Linc with a loss.

The Green Bay and Washington losses have extenuating circumstances, as our starting QB was knocked out of the game. They still should have beaten the Skins at home. I listed the Tennessee loss as Okay because winning at Tennessee is tough to do, but based on the lead they had in the 4th Quarter, that could be considered a bad loss. We expected an up and down team, and that is what we have gotten. Hopefully, the OL will play better in the second half and Patterson develops at corner.

We have 5 division games left in the second half of the season. We catch somewhat of a break in that we face a Dallas team in turmoil (who may or may not have a new coach, and may or may not be playing a backup QB). I still think we can get 5 wins out of the second half and make the playoffs.

Must win games: Washington, Chicago, Dallas (twice).

Need to win 1 of the other 4: Minnesota, Houston, NY Giants (twice).

No cupcakes in the 2nd half, but no unwinnable games (although the Giants are looking pretty good right now).

I agree with this, however, so many times we've seen again and again, 2 minutes left and we NEED a timeout that isn't there. Its about weighing risks and I think in this case we should have just gone up and tried to get our line to push theirs (offense was probably tired, but so was the defense.) In the end its what we did, minus a timeout. I just simply can't remember the last time we went into the final 4-5 minutes of a game with ONE! timeout, let alone multiple. Yesterday was no different and against Manning you can't risk the prospect of not having late timeouts. You have to rely on your offense and make the tough call to stockpile you TO's for when you REALLY need them. Just my opinion.

Being at the game, I didn't hate the challenge although I laughed to my buddies that the call would be upheld and Andy would be eviscerated for "wasting" a time out. Which is exactly what happened. I think you NEVER pass up a chance to put points on the board. Sure, with a few inches and a fresh set of downs we should have been able to score a TD, but you never know. A botched snap, a fumbled handoff, a strip and we could've been walking away in a whole different situation.

That Tenn. game was a BAAAAAAAAAD Loss. yeah it wasn't a conference or a division game but it was game that we had under control. So in terms of the overall effect on us making the playoffs. You are correct. I see the Eagles winning Monday night, splitting with the Giants and Cowboys. Beating Houston and Minn at home and Chicago on the road. Prediction:11-5. Wildcard

One positive thing about Andy Reid. He knows how to prepare a team when he has two weeks. Not only is he 12-0 after the bye week,

but in the Eagles 8 playoff appearances under Reid, 5 have come when they either got a bye during wildcard week (2002, 2003, and 2004) or knew they had a playoffberth locked up and rested starters during the final week of the season (2001, 2006). Their record in their first playoff games those years? 5-0.

So 17-0 when he has two weeks to prepare. Not too shabby.

I think the season is still very much up in the air. We've played like a playoff team over the first half IMHO, in aggregate. BUT, as you point out, there are no lock gimmes in the 2nd half and we need to improve our consistency in a lot of areas to make a solid push.

One positive thing about Andy Reid. He knows how to prepare a team when he has two weeks. Not only is he 12-0 after the bye week,but in the Eagles 8 playoff appearances under Reid, 5 have come when they either got a bye during wildcard week (2002, 2003, and 2004) or knew they had a playoffberth locked up and rested starters during the final week of the season (2001, 2006). They still should have beaten the Skins at home. I listed the Tennessee loss as Okay because winning at Tennessee is tough to do, but based on the lead they had in the 4th Quarter, that could be considered a bad loss. We expected an up and down team, and that is what we have gotten. Hopefully, the OL will play better in the second half and Patterson develops at corner.We have 5 division games left in the second half of the season. We catch somewhat of a break in that we face a Dallas team in turmoil (who may or may not have a new coach, and may or may not be playing a backup QB). I still think we can get 5 wins out of the second half and make the playoffs. Must win games: Washington, Chicago, Dallas (twice).Need to win 1 of the other 4: Minnesota, Houston, NY Giants (twice).No cupcakes in the 2nd half, but no unwinnable games (although the Giants are looking pretty good right now).

I think beating DAL once and WASH this week are about the only locks left on the schedule. IMO beating ATL probably saved their season more than anything else.

Good Point. I guess the other coach also has the whole offseason to prepare for the Eagles. In the bye week and playoff situations, Reid's opponent does not usually have an extra week to prepare. Even with that advantage, Reid's record of 17-0 is pretty amazing.

Good article about McDermott's preparation for Manning. This give me some hope for him long-term as a defensive coordinator.

I would love for him to start to develop a defensive philosophy that he and the players can start to build on. While Jim Johnson was known

as a blitzer, his philosophy was more than that. He would play softer defense until you got to his 40 and then he attacked relentlessly because

you were getting close to scoring anyway. That philosophy makes so much sense which I think is why it was so successful. You are playing more aggressive when you have a smaller field to defend which makes your aggressiveness that much more effective.

As it stands now, I am really not sure what McDermott's defensive philosophy is.

I thought you were going to follow McNabb and become a Redskin fan..? Anyway, you are spot on with Peters. I thought he wasnt having much of a season this year and was constantly injured. Someone posted all the snaps by Peters in the last game against Freeney. He did an awesome job against one of the best. It was really pretty impressive. Here is the link for those interested:
