***Official 2011 Philadelphia Eagles Thread*** (1 Viewer)

It's an easy formula but incredibly hard to execute, stop Matt Forte!!!
Considering they let Murray go for 70 yards on 8 carries or something, that is a pretty big if... Can't count on 24-0 leads at halftime all the time...
The D played well last night the rush D still sucks. It could hurt them next week for sure.
It's a matter of priorities. The Eagles obviously focused on taking Bryant/Austin out of the game. They probably sacrificed some run defenseto do that. Against Chicago, They don't have quite the WR's Dallas has, so the Eagles can focus more on stopping Matt Forte than they did on stopping Demarco Murray. I think that the players are beginning to understand the overall defensive scheme and will continue to play better.
I watched the game but at a bar where I didn't really get a chance to closely watch a lot of things I normally do at home so wondering if anyone can let me know some info on who Nnamdi/Asante were each covering. Looked like Nnamdi was on Dez for quite a few snaps but Dez moved around a bit, so just wondering what cb was on which recievers and if anyone has stat numbers for each cb for how many times they were thrown at that would be awesome! thanks
As a rule, these guys don't cover specific WRs, they stay on their own side of the filed and cover whoever lines up against them.
actually Nnamdi played some on Witten which I thought was brilliant. They went 3 CB's, 1 FS at times which is the way we should play anyone with a quality TE when they run 12 or 21 personnel. Nnamdi is strong enough to play those guys
Interesting. I thought I saw him on Witten for a bit but wasn't sure. I like having him in the middle of the field as he may be our best tackling CB and TE's have in the past eaten us alive. Nothing wrong with samuel and DRC on the outsides and nnamdi manning up on a team with a great TE.We likely won't have to deal with that next week anyways. I hope for an insane amount of attention on Forte. Would love to see a game where Cutler (with little time because of our great pass rush) is forced to beat us with those WR's on our CB's.

I was under the impression thatJuan had been moving Asmougha around all over the field ala Charles Woodsen. He's been doing that all year I think

There's GOT to be someone with stats on how many times he covered each receiver and how many times he was thrown at.

I will say that Vick might have had his best complete game as a QB in his career last night. Yes, he had the great game against Washington

last year, but I discount that based on how bad the Redskins were. He looked so comfortable in the pocket last night and I loved how he was hitting receivers in stride on those crossing routes. We actually look like we have an offense that can beat you running or passing the ball.

There they go again, getting my hopes up.

There they go again, getting my hopes up.
Here's a cure for that...It wasn't quite the once-in-a-lifetime performance Vick unleashed in that 59-28 romp over Washington last season. After that, reasonable people wondered - out loud! - whether it was possible for any NFL defense to stop Vick, DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy, and the rest of them.Except, of course, that Aaron Rodgers was the winning quarterback in the Super Bowl. Vick and the Eagles turned out to be quite stoppable, losing their final three games. The last was a playoff game against Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. The unstoppable Eagles became so stoppable, in fact, that Reid replaced his defensive coaching staff and made radical changes in the team's approach to offensive-line play. There followed a spending spree to infuse talent onto the roster.http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/eagles/20111031_Phil_Sheridan__Are_Eagles_all-hype_or_are_they_the_real_thing_.html#comments

Being a CHI fan first, I always dread these games. I think the Bears can exploit the Eagles' soft middle of the D, which means a steady diet of Matt Forte. That being said, I think Philly can pick on our CB's all day long. I think we'll see at least one quick score to DeSean.

All in all, I think the thing that kills us is the PHI D-line. Babin and Cole are going to abuse Cutler all day. I put the o/u on number of sacks for those two at 3.5. If Cutler can avoid turnovers, we can win. If not, we could see a blowout.

I'm just glad that the game is here. Seems like we are always in Chi and weird stuff happens, fog, illegal snaps between the QBs legs, I forget what it was last time.

Bad Field. McCoy, Jackson, and Vick couldn't cut like they like to because the turf would give way and they kept falling down. Of course that doesn't explain why the defense couldn't stop Matt Forte.

So I get my Week 9 Random Shots email this morning and see this:

"Andy Reid's Eagles are now 13-0 in the game coming off their bye week. That's pretty good for a guy that's supposed to be such a terrible coach."

Who calls Andy Reid a terrible coach? There's a difference between a terrible coach and one that's possibly run his course. Just like Deion Sanders said about Romo, he'll put up nice stats but at the end of the day maybe he's not the one to lead you to the Super Bowl.

Is this a cheap shot at Eagles fans or am I reading something that isn't there?

I don't think it's a cheap shot but rather the perception of Reid. Ask around and see what people say...you will rarely hear that he is a good coach...he is either great or terrible when in fact, he's a good coach....not great, but good. His story and McNabb's will read exactley the same when all is said and done.

I dunno. It wouldn't be the first time Joe took a swipe at Philly fans. IIRC, he did it pretty often regarding McNabb.

The Eagles need to do one thing flawlessly in this game and if they can do they win. Shut down Matt Forte. Not knocking Chicago but the man comprises over 50% of the Chicago offense. Also shame on the offense for jerking his chain around on the contract. He needs a hefty raise somewhere in the realm of Chris Johnson money. But then again, look what happened to him after he was paid.

Actually 46% (1090 yds from scrimmage / 2362 total team yards) but who's counting?

Weird stuff happens here too. Like Brian Griese 97 yard drive to win the game. :X
:wall: how could I forget :hot:

Joe's been taking cheap shots almost every week in Random Shots. He seems kind of cranky lately  But winning again coming off the bye doesn't change anything. Monster 2 game win streak and we're still under .500. But Joe told us

Nothing has changed. Simple as that.

Kind of shocked he did take swipes at us in the weekly shots. That was pretty low.I think its been stated here plenty of times the reason Reid has run his course. I do THINK he is overrated as a coach though.

You would think this would have happened but with them using the wide 9 formation more tonight ( then the past two games ) while NOT blitzing ( again ), they couldnt get pressure. As for eagles WRs vs the CBs, would have worked IF Vick had time, line looked bad tonight in protection.Refs tonight were horrendous, seemed very one sided with two bad calls leading to 14pts for the Bears. Could even toss in that pass inf call on Awesomeguy. Ball was behind the guy and wasn't catchable at all. Someone at just pointed out that same type of play happened last week with Bryant but there was no call

We pretty much need to run the table to make the playoffs. Lost to the Bears and the Falcons who now have the tiebreaker against us and both should be battling for a wildcard spot. What a mess of a season.

We should all PM Joe and ask if he's going to defend Reid this week.Jan. 11, 2009 - Eagles last playoff win (2008 post-season)Jan. 7, 2007 - Eagles last home playoff win (2006 post-season)Don't worry Andy, I'm sure season #14 will be the one!

Andy's gonna do a better job. :wall: Being an Eagles fan is like living in the movie "Groundhog Day". Where you keep experiencing the same things over and over. Just when I thought he finally figured out that he has one of the top RB's in the league - he goes back to being pass happy! McCoy scores on a 33yd run at the 6 minute mark of the 3rd quarter. He gets TWO more carries then rest of the game??? WTF!!!Nothing really ever changes - it just doesn't.......

Is there a player that comes up smaller in the clutch than Maclin? If I remember correctly, this is the third game this season that's ended by him coming up short with the game on the line. Don't even get me started on Jackson, he seemed like he mailed it in already this season.

All in all, this game played out pretty much how it had to for Chicago. They played an excellant game and if it wasn't for two fumbles by Forte (who never fumbles), the game isn't close. Like I said before, I dread these games because I really like both teams (but more slanted towards Chicago). I really think if Chicago plays like they did last night on Sunday vs. DET, they win.

So lets see....

WINS against- St. Louis, Washington and Dallas

LOSES against- Atlanta, Giants, 9ers, Bills and Bears

We just can't beat ANY team that's above average...I didnt even see this coming.

To Maclin's defense it wasnt the best ball...The announcers had it correct...they just out muscled us...they smacked us around and it showed.

No way that was on Maclin...ball was high and hard and it was a great catch at all. This game is on the lines...we lost in the trenches. Vick was constantly harassed by a D-line disiplined enough to leave him no rushing lanes. Our O-line was able to blow an occasional hole open for McCoy, but got dominated in pass protection.

I do like Maclin (I've long said he's better than Jackson) but he just seems to never make that 'big' play you need him to. The last pass against ATL, the play here against CHI and the last one against SF (I think he was the last play of the SF game, but my memory is hazy). That just using this year an an example.

I'd also say Mike Martz did a nice job of out-coaching Juan Castillo.

Here's 2 things Joe can put in this week's RS:Week before the bye, Reid is 6-7Week after the week after the bye, Reid is 5-6 ('99 & '00 the Eagles had a week 16 bye)

also, if our punter didn't throw like a freaking nancy-boy.
A true playoff team shouldn't need a gimmick play by their punter to win a home game on Monday night football. He's is one of the last places you should be placing blame. The Eagles physically got their asses handed to them all over the field.

If Steve Smith isn't healthy, ok. But if he's healthy and they aren't using him when they need a 1st down it's a shame because he was clutch for the Giants.

And if he's not healthy then that was waste of $2 million that could have gone to a LB. We sure pulled one over on the Giants, huh?

This is not a playoff team. And there is more than enough fault to go around, no reason to leave him out. A punter that they grabbed specifically because of his 'athletic ability'. Is that a joke? Mike Quick was talking about how that play continuously wasn't working in practice this week because he can't throw the ball. Wait a minute, maybe we should put blame on the the guy that still decides to call the gimmick play even though it hasn't worked all week?

Correct. And its the 3rd year in a row they have underachieved.2009 - 11 wins, 1st round playoff exit

2010 - 10 wins, home playoff game, 1st round playoff exit

2011 - no playoffs?? With this talent??

seemingly unpossible.

I ran with my rants & reasons on this season & the problems. I am done saying it almost every week. This quote was done some time ago but it still holds so true.

Andy Reid coaches like he's won three Super Bowls. And we, the media, talk about him like he's won four. - Jason Whitlock

According to Ruben Frank during the post-game show, McCoy had 1 touch over the final quarter and a half. One touch for one of the game's most explosive players during a time when you had the lead (twice) and needed to control the clock.

How does that happen? Hard to imagine after they had their mini 2-game win streak when we were all praising how they got the running game going. Now 2 weeks in a row, McCoy is under-utilized when the game is in control.

Also according to Frank, the Eagles blowing 4 4th quarter leads at home in one season is a new NFL record. Historic collapses.
