***Official 2012 MLB Regular Season Thread (1 Viewer)

I had some thread about the reasons I hate Bryce Harper all cued up, after his first game at Dodger Stadium. But thought better of it, nobody wants to see that.

I might have to do it anyway. I can't stand everything about the Bryce Revolution. And the announcers are making it way worse. Washington announcers sucking his #### were one thing, but now ESPN? They talked about him going from second to third like it was an act of God. "Oh my gosh, and did you see how he looked back to see where the throw was going...he's his own third base coach!!! That is a veteran maneuver and he's only 19!" PUKE. OMG, I can't believe he knows what to do when playing a game he's played 10,000 times. :loco:

And Oral Hershiser, you too? What happened bulldog? You were my favorite, just say Hamels beaned him because Bryce and his family are a ####. Jesus dude.

I do heart Cole Hamels now, btw. :excited:

Im pretty sure Hamels will be hearing from Selig's office and getting some time off, Cole Hamels on plunking Harper:

"I was trying to hit him," Hamels said. "I mean, I'm not going to deny it. It's something that I grew up watching. I'm just trying to continue old baseball, because I think some people get away from it. I remember when I was a rookie, the strike zone was really, really small and you didn't say anything, because that's the way baseball is. But I think unfortunately sometimes the league is protecting certain players and making it not as that kind of old school, prestigious way of baseball.""It's just welcome to the big leagues," said Hamels, "and I think he kind of did that to me."Hamels said he expected to get hit."I'm happy that's the way it worked because that's the way it should work," Hamels said.

Old school baseball probably dictated that hitting him was saying enough, and opening your mouth to brag about it to the press is bush league.

:goodposting: LOOK AT ME I'M OLD SCHOOL.

Nats GM Rizzo's response to Hamels is great: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/post/mike-rizzo-calls-cole-hamels-fake-tough-calls-for-suspension-after-classless-gutless-act/2012/05/07/gIQAZPO07T_blog.html

“He thinks he’s sending a message to us of being a tough guy. He’s sending the polar opposite message. He says he’s being honest, well, I’m being honest. It was a gutless chicken [bleep] [bleeping] act. That was a fake-tough act. No one has ever accused Cole Hamels of being old school.”

And now I have to worry about this ##### getting suspended and missing out on a nice matchup vs SD.

Weekly lineup leagues are the suck.

Obviously he's absolutely right, but there was no reason to do this. Plenty of people in the media were gonna spend the next day or so pointing out that Hamels is 100% chicken####. It's not like that's even up for debate. But now Rizzo is part of the story too, instead of it just being about how a Philly player acted like a #####, and Harper showed him up on the field and then outclassed him off it.

Why should Hamels face a suspension and not Jordan Zimmerman? Is the confession the only reason? We all know both were intentional.

We do? Zimmermann hit Hamels with a man on base and nobody out. Nobody hits a guy intentionally to send a message in a close game in that situation. And Zimmermann has a BB/9 rate of 1.6 this year. If he was trying to hit Hamels in the back I don't think he would've missed by four feet.

@MorganEnsberg Cole Hammels disappointed me today by hitting Harper. No honor there. Whoever is the leader on that team doesn't have control.
@qualls50 really???
@MorganEnsberg Lame Chad. There is zero reason to do that. You know that. Unreal that you would think that is ok.
@qualls50 they hit cole right back but said not on purpose. Yeah right. At least cole was a man and didn't lie about it.

I think the confession makes it different. First, there is always doubt with intent, and Hamels removed that by confessing to it. Zimmermann denied intent, and I think there is a case for believing him based on what Tobias said -- I think he wanted to make him dance because it was a bunting situation, but I don't think he wanted to hit him (honestly, I think he would have preferred if he saved his retaliation for Polanco). Also, I think Hamels' statement gives greater cause for suspension. Even if you accept the false premise that it's "old school", I think MLB would want to show that it's "old", and not the way baseball is, or should be, played now.

Do Nats homers really believe Zimmerman didn't hit Hamels on purpose? Gotta be shtick, right?
:shrug:Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. Throwing at his feet in a situation where it really hurt the team to put him on base kinda brings it into question. Not that it matters. Even if it was on purpose, there's a difference between plunking a guy unprovoked and plunking a guy in retaliation.

I completely agree that Zimmerman wasn't in the wrong, but there's about a 6000% chance he hit Hamels on purpose, surprised how anyone could think otherwise.

That's a lot of percent.

I'm pretty sure he did too- I just think it was a really weird time to do it, but I guess that just shows you what the Nats think of Rollins, who was on deck. And I wish he'd aimed higher. If they're gonna risk cracking your guy's elbow or wrist by throwing above the waist, they deserve the same treatment.

I figured they wanted to send the message back right away, show they weren't backing down that sort of thing (coupled with being unafraid of the Phil's anemic offense). Could be fun down the stretch if both those teams are contending in August/September.If you look at the replay the ball misses hitting Hamels right on the kneecap by about an inch or 2, ouch would that have hurt.

Oh boy, his next start will be pushed back a day. That'll learn 'em.
What should they do, suspend him for a year or something? I'm surprised he even got 5.
Maybe miss a start?
So 10 games? For that? Please.
Why does it have to be 10 games? How about making it "miss your next scheduled start" Work it out somehow. There was no punishment whatsoever with a 5 game for a starting pitcher. Right now Hamels is laughing at it and thinks it was the right thing to do to hit Harper.
