For those who like the cool baseball callup stories:

Nats called up catcher Jonathan Solano today (Flores has nagging hamstring, hopefully won't need DL). Tonight is his first game in a major league uniform. Turns out his brother Donovan was called up just last week by the Marlins, whom the Nats are playing tonight and tomorrow. His brother picked him up at the airport. Their parents are flying in from Columbia today to see their both of their sons in big league uniforms for the first time.

Hope his debut goes better than Sandy Leon's three innings earlier this month.

Catching for the Nats is similar to playing drums for Spinal Tap.

Sudden rain storm catches Marlins by surprise. Tarp had to be placed on field while roof closed. Water flooded into camera well near dugout.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iAVT6lx_JAhttp://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/2012/05/30/surprise-storm-gushes-marlins-park-with-roof-open/
Also, tonight's pitching matchup: Wang vs. Johnson.

Can't call that matchup Bush League.

Reminds me of a sign I saw during a WS onceIt takes more than 9 Yanks to beat our Johnson.

The AL East is so stupid. 3 games between first and last in the division, every team above .500 and with a positive run differential. The NL East is similar as well. More teams in these divisions with winning records than in the other 4 (10 of 18)

ZOMG!!!!111

Raider Nation, can you believe the Cowboys went for 2 there? Why would they do that when they're down 21 to the Seahawks?

Can't wait to hear people complain about the dreaded East Coast Bias when the interleague games between the AL East and NL East get a ton of attention this month. "How dare you give so much coverage to the teams that are good!"

So Bob Costas is doing the national game tonight on MLB Network. Yankees @ Tigers.

A-Rod comes to bat. Bob tells us where he stands on the All-Time HR list. Then they show the list.

"There you see it. Ruth's 714 was mythic. Aaron's 755 was epic. Bonds's 762... just a bogus statistic."

Bob continued:

"And by the way, he's not the only one whose stats were bogus. He's just at the top of the list."

If he's gonna blast Barry, it's only fair to get a dig in at the guy in the batters box as well.

Carlos Ruiz now with enough ABs and currently leading the majors with a .381 BA.

(Probably won't last too long, so getting him props while I can.)

This day in baseball history:

1939 Joe Sprinz fractures his upper jaw in twelve places and has five teeth knocked out attempting to catch a ball dropped 800 feet from a Goodyear blimp. 'Mule', a catcher with the PCL's San Francisco Seals, had been participating in Baseball Day at the Golden Gate Exposition on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay when the ball hit his upraised glove and was driven into his face resulting in two-month stay in the hospital.

They're called the tools of ignorance for a reason

We were all set for the :JAA: special on Thursday, Wang v Dickey, and Terry Collins had to go and mess it up.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday that he plans on giving pitcher Johan Santana an extra day of rest after throwing a career-high 134 pitches during his no-hitter against the Cardinals on Friday. He has re-arranged the rotation to move Santana back from Wednesday to Thursday against the Nationals. R.A. Dickey is scheduled to take his place for Wednesday's contest but nothing will be confirmed until both pitchers throw their scheduled bullpen sessions Monday. "I like that order, but a lot of it is going to depend on how Johan feels tomorrow," Collins told MLB.com

I know it's been said before, but why does everyone assume the guys in the batter's box were the only one's juicing?I personally find it ridiculous when people bash Barry Bonds. He was putting up Hall of Fame numbers and won 3 MVP awards before he ever knew what D-bol was.

I've never seen the kind of plate discipline Bonds displayed. If you threw him a strike, he murdered it. Barry Bonds was an exceptional hitter, and he only got better as he aged. Granted, some of his doubles starting leaving the yard, but I don't care.

Steroids didn't make Bonds great. He was already great. They made him super human.

Talking only post-steroid Bonds here...The reason he was able to have that kind of plate discipline is because he got so much stronger and quicker that he was able to wait that much longer to start his swing. If you're stronger, you swing faster, you can wait that extra microsecond to see if it's a hittable pitch...it all ties in together.

Yes, he was a ridiculous player and 100% lock Hall of Famer before the juice, but he doesn't come close to breaking Aaron or Maris/McGwire's record without the juice. The sad thing is, he probably finishes with numbers that would best Willie Mays and would have been done cleanly and likely would be regarded by everyone as one of the top 5 players of all-time anyway. Now he's got half the people saying he was the best and the other half saying he was a bum and his legacy is tainted beyond repair.

That's fine. It just seems like nobody brings up the extra 2 or 3 miles an hour Kevin Brown, Roger Clemens, or Kyle Farnsworth had on their fastballs or the extra tilt they may have had on their breaking stuff while trying to get these guys out. There were plenty of guys on PEDs, and none of them had near the plate discipline of Bonds. I watched Sammy Sosa get fooled on a daily basis. Same thing with McGwire. Barry Bonds rarely made an out unless he himself made a mistake.

Also, tonight's pitching matchup: Wang vs. Johnson.
Sequel on Thursday: Wang vs. Dickey!Ten year old me thinks this is the funniest thing ever.

You find it ridiculous that people bash Bonds but admit the stuff made him super human. That's why they bash him, he holds a bunch of records that he cheated to attain.

Reading a lot of rumors about turmoil between Justin Upton and the organization. He sat 2 out of the last 4 games and may even sit some more games this week. Gibson doesnt think of him as an everyday starter anymore

Wow. Guy was 30/20 last year. And he hasn't been that bad, has he?

Hes been awful this year. Guy clearly has a great track record so sitting him out multiple games doesnt make any sense unless theres something going on behind the scenes.
