Early front runner for player tweet of the month

Kris Medlen‏@KrisMedlen54 Wow what an incredible day! So honored to be the NL pitcher of the month! But finding out my unborn child has a wiener was the best part!
I think Brandon McCarthy is now the front runner:
WELL IF BEING DISCHARGED FROM THE HOSPITAL ISNT THE BEST TIME TO ASK ABOUT A THREESOME THEN IM FRESH OUT OF IDEAS
Awesome. And possibly retribution for this...
Hey @mlb, extenze is offering a two week free trial that I want to get @bmccarthy32… That’s cool with the PED rules, right? — Amanda McCarthy (@Mrs_McCarthy32) August 22, 2012

Today's Astros/Cubs games may showcase two of the worst lineups ever.

Cubs lineup:

Mather CF, Barney 2B, Castro SS, Soriano LF, Castillo C, Vitters 3B, Sappelt RF, Recker 1B, Wood P

doesn't even matter who the Astros throw out there.

:X

Philly 3GB, Mil 3.5GB from the last WC spot. HTF did that happen?
MIlwaukee's problem has been the bullpen. Something clicked at some point and they just aren't blowing games with a lot of frequency anymore. THey've won 18 of 23 and are playing some good ball.
thanks. philly just got healthy and has alot of easy games but i didnt know how milwaukee turned it around

that would be so awesome! I hope they keep it going. They have an easy slate ahead...
Once they get past this weekend series, nobody's got an easier slate than the Cardinals. Phillies and Brewers should be pulling for the Dodgers this weekend.
Philly almost has to run the table but they have the pitching to give them a chance. They have to win out until Monday at least...

Milwaukee isn't that bad this year. They're on pace to score more runs than they did last year. Their pitching is on pace to get close to the team strikeout record. They just couldn't hold a lead after the 7th inning. IIRC they have something like 27 blown saves and the league average is around 17. Take just 10 of those losses to get to the average and we're talking about a much different Brewer team.

They also have six of the last ten against a Nationals team that's starting to look like they'll be resting their starters by then.

The Nats will want the best record in the NL, they currently have a 2.5 game lead on the Reds... I doubt they will be sitting many starters if the Reds or Braves are still close...

That would be dumb. The Nationals should do everything they can to keep Philly out of the playoffs. Philly would be scary (maybe even the NL favorite?) if they get into the playoffs.

They're not gonna sit all their starters- they wouldn't do that no matter the lead or the opponent- but their decisions would be impacted if they have the division locked up and are leading for the best record. They might skip a start for Jordan Zimmermann, who has been showing signs of fatigue. They won't push any starter past 90 or so pitches. They won't use a closer three days in a row. They're more apt to rest guys who are banged up. It'll be a different approach and a somewhat different team than the one that's won 89 games (also no Strasburg). And there's absolutely no way a team in the wild card can be a favorite to advance to the World Series. They have basically a 50/50 chance of elimination before even reaching the division series. Once they got to the division series, maybe.

Yeah totally agree. The Phils are still a long shot to make the division series. If that happens, I think they become the NL favorite (unless Strasburg is available). They've got 3 aces, a bullpen that has been playing great and an admittedly mediocre lineup. Also, they have quite a few veterans with playoff experience.

Everyone in DC is rooting for them to come up short. My guess is that the motivation is about 10% hate/rivalry and about 90% fear.
