Unfortunately I don't think this team can be beaten. The Buccos had the best shot with a 2-1 series lead. Nobody will solve Wacha......

In my opinion the fight that the Pirates and Reds put up this season paid some dividends with the young Cardinal players down the stretch and playoffs. The whole season forced the youngsters to play 100% strong all year and gave them a focus that we are seeing now.

This is an excellent point

Gotta figure out how to get tickets now.
If they play Boston, get to Fenway anytime before the first pitch. Look for thousands of pink hats trying to unload their tix.
If it's in Yankee stadium jr, look behind home plate at all the good seats, notice they're empty. Pretend it's not because the Yankees are out playing golf... Now envision its August..... wait... All those seats are STILL empty... Just sit there.

Like sending out the Bat signal. :lmao: Now I just have to find a way to fool you into bringing me a sandwich.

Wainwright Game 1.

Wacha Game 2.

Kelly Game 3.

Game 4? Wainwright short rest?
My guess is Game 4 will be Lance Lynn on a short leash, managing that game like LaRussa ran the 2011 postseason, and then hoping Wainwright can go deep into Game 5 on full rest.
See, no thanks. If we happen to steal one in Boston/Detroit and can be up 2-1, give me Wainwright on short rest to maybe put us up 3-1. Similarly, if down 1-2, I'm doing what I can to avoid 1-3.

Nothing to rest for at this point. Unless you think Wainwright on short rest is less effective than Lynn, ride your horse.

Look at the Dodgers with Nolasco instead of trotting out Greinke and Kershaw. At this point, give me the ace on short rest.

I see what you're saying. Also, if you're going to ride the short rest train, it opens a slight possibility of bringing back Waino to either pitch the first five innings of Game 7, or at least have him as a bullpen option.

So now my question is, if Wainwright pitches Game 4, who pitches Game 5? Because to me it looks like Game 5 are the same options as Game 4, only now Lynn is going against a better pitcher, when the Cards could have had a better matchup for Lynn in Game 4 and Wainwright on full rest in Game 5.

I don't know what the right answer is here, and I agree the decision would be dependent on the texture of the series, but I'm leaning full rest.

If we're talking about a five-game 2-2-1 format like the NLDS, I'd probably plan for short-rest Wainwright in Game 4 because full rest Wacha would be a Game 5 option.

BTW, if Craig can't play in the World Series, what will the Cardinals do about the DH? Because right now the best options seem to be Shane Robinson DHing and hitting seventh, or moving Freese to DH and having Descalso play third and hit eighth.

Wacha would go Game 5 as well if it were up to me. With the way those 2 are pitching, I'll take Wainwright/Wacha to pitch 5 of 7 games, even on short rest. As you pointed out, it opens up Wainwright for a Game 7 if needed.

G-marco, I was considering just passing out in your front yard last night instead of paying Scooterguy. I didn't have the cat shirt on though.

Why would you continue to contribute to a "dying sport?" ;)
Same reason I still post here.
Force of habit?
I think apathy is probably closer to correct.
I was going with stupidity, but whatever.
I think DrD is right here.
Meh
