You do have to wonder where the series would be at right now had the Dodgers cheated and broke Beltran's rib in his first at bat, rather than the Cards doing it to the Dodgers' best hitter.
Cheated....love it it. Cards are a bunch of cheaters. Tell you what when Beltran signs with the Yankees we will break his ribs as a parting gift.

Puig is an incredible raw talent - but when you show up the pitcher there are likely repercussions. That said - how insane that he went into homerun trot - and STILL beat out a triple. Guy has sick talent.
But it was OK for Yadi and Wacha to act like 20,000 volts got passed through their bodies after striking out Puig and Uribe with the bases loaded in game 2?

He's a kid who had the biggest hit of his life on the biggest stage he's ever been on. This kind of bull#### is among the reasons baseball is a dying sport.
Oh, I know why he did it. I can't say I blame him for doing it. If I were on the mound and the situation arose though I might let a pitch slip inside on him to remind him to respect the game. Not to hurt him, just to send a message. It is part of the game regardless of how unseemly it may be. Actions have consequences. Hell I would consider throwing at a pitcher who was nuts as well. You don't like Wacha pumping his fist - well the beauty of the NL is he has to bat. Send a message.
I couldn't agree with something more than I agree with all of this.

I saw another LA fan say this elsewhere, too, so Dodgers fans must have their own forum where they are arranging these crybaby excuses. Keep it up.

Whole lotta Rosie.
Text received during game,"Do the Cards have any righthanders who don't throw 98+?"
Why does he hate Kevin Siegrist?
Yeah, that is what is really awesome. Siegrist is a stud and completely under the radar. The only one that scaresme is Carlos Martinez - but even he came up with the big pick last night.
I'm big on Martinez long-term; he already has three big-boy pitches and he doesn't look like he's straining at all when he throws 95. However, it sure seems like trotting all those rookies out is playing with fire.

I got a bad feeling about today. Just a hunch, but I think Kelly is going to have a short stint on the mound.

Please keep this reverse jinx schtick in the AL threads. This is the Senior Circuit and we have standards.

It sure would be nice to find a way to win this one today while the Dodgers spirits are down. Kershaw can take Game 6 and anything can happen in a Game 7.

... and yes, I'm paranoid after last season's NLCS debacle.

Sure, but on the plus side, the time before that when we had a 3-1 NLCS lead we got our asses smoked, too.

Wait...

Fair enough.

Winnable game today for the Cards. Hanley and Ethier are warriors for playing through their hurts, but the day game after the night game can't help their recovery. Freese's injury by comparison isn't that big a deal since he usually gets pulled in the late innings to play a real glove at third.

SP edge clearly to the Dodgers, but SP edge hasn't mattered much in this series. The start time means the shadows should get funky just in time for the Cards to unleash the Club 98 bullpen parade.

Hopeful for a win. Mostly just thankful I get t watch the game.

Ugh, I hate that I did that.
I'll allow it.You know who Carlos Martinez reminds me of? Joaquin Andujar. If you subtract the crazy swing when he hit. And the cocaine habit. And the propensity for destroying clubhouse toilets after a bad outing.

I agree with your long-term assessment, but one of these rookies is going to implode at some point, and he's the odds-on favorite.

There is one word in America that says it all, and that one word is, 'You never know.'

Wow, what an awful called 3rd strike to end a game. Awful.

That said, Adron Chambers should NEVER be used as a pinch hitter. He's a pinch runner. As a hitter, he makes me cringe.

What does Sugar Shane have to do to get an at-bat? Pinch hitting Chambers over Robinson, seriously Matheny?

I thought Matheny managed a great game last night, but today was horrible. Left Kelly in too long (did Shelby bang his daughter?), went to Mujica instead of Siegrist when it was still a 2 run game, and then pinch hits Chambers who can't hit half his weight, when he's got a guy on the bench who hit a HR last night and hits .250 (which is good for the pathetic Cards bench).

Can anyone tell me why Mujica and Chambers are on the post-season rosters? cards have to find a way to win 1 of next 2 at home and hope that Craig can hit (DH) in world series.

Liked seeing Jansen get knocked around in the 9th.

Didn't like all those solo HRs.

What a different game this would have been if that bases-loaded, no-outs top of the first produced more than zero runs.

So true. The loss of Allen Craig really makes the Cardinals bench look that much worse, especially compared to recent years when it seems like they always had a handful of bench players capable of getting a key hit.

It comes down to which ace will be more effective -

Kershaw up first against Wacha - he wins this one and all the pressure goes onto the Cards ace

Wainwright vs Ryu - now Ryu did a superb job in his last outing, but so far the only ace to hold serve was Grienke in his 2nd start.

Going into this series I thought there would be more offense but Cards bats have gone to sleep - maybe tomorrow they will wake up and give Wacha a chance.

I'm worried about facing two top-caliber lefties here. The Cards don't exactly smoke LHP these days.

This morning, the Cardinals website sold whatever World Series tickets were leftover after the season ticket holders this year and next year finished claiming their allotment.

In the iStampede this morning, I scored tickets behind home plate for Game 5 of the World Series at Busch.

I've been lucky enough to attend NFL and NBA playoffs and a bunch of March Madness games, and I was fortunate enough to attend Game 5 of the 1985 Series (1), but I haven't been to a World Series game in person since (2), so I'm fired up at the possibility of seeing a Series game live.

If this jinxes it, so be it. We've get two evenly-matched teams playing an evenly-matched series most pundits expected to go the distance. And here we are. Go Cards.

--------------------

(1) before the game, street vendors were selling Cardinals 1985 World Series Champions swag for $15-20. After the game, I bought a hat, T-Shirt, and pennant from those vendors for a total of $3.

(2) I turned down a ticket to Game 6 of the 1991 Series because I had to see about a girl. I did not end up married to her. That scene from Good Will Hunting still makes me cry.

The lineup sure misses Craig. I know it's borderline HotSportsTakes to say the top of the first yesterday would have gone differently with Craig hitting fourth instead of Adams.. but dammit, Adams's first at-bat yesterday was brutal. And if it was Craig and if he would have struck out anyway, it still opened the possibility of Adams pitch-hitting with two on and shaky pitcher on the mound instead of sending G-Baby from Hard Ball up there.

You probably should have gone to that game.

So... Kershaw tonight. If having Pascual Perez drive him to the stadium doesn't work as planned, what's Plan B? Just grind out at-bats and hope Mattingly pinch-hits for him after 72 pitches again?

Law of averages not in Cards favor against Kershaw - he has lost all 3 games this year he started against the Cards - and since 2011 he is 2-5 against them. For a pitcher that is so good, it is improbable that his string of bad luck against one team will continue. As a Cardinal fan I hope the string continues - but have a feeling we are going to see a Game 7.

Waca scares the hell out of me tonight.

Hey baseball gods, please let the Cards be in an insurmountable lead after the first inning.

You pal,

SLB

What does Sugar Shane have to do to get an at-bat?
Ask and you shall receive. No Hanley for Game 6.

Also, Jay out and Robinson in.
Like it. Can always put Jay in CF in the late innings if we take the lead. Bummer for Hanley, but he could have dodged that pitch.

I sat at a NL table at Luminere with Hanley after a Cards/Dodgers game at Busch. He saw almost every flop and folded to any sign of aggression. Quiet guy, but pleasant. Perfect guy to have an a NL table.
