***Official 2013 NLCS Thread: St. Louis vs. Los Angeles (1 Viewer)

MLB is getting some crazy ratings for these LCSs. St Louis had 67% of TVs that were on tuned in last night at midnight. Detroit and Boston always have huge audiences and top 10 (well Detroit is 11th) markets, and LA is the #2 market. Good times.

Puig is faster and has a much better arm than Manny ever possessed. Not sure I'm following the analogy either.

Man, never expected to be up 2-0 going into Game 3 with Wainwright pitching.

That bases loaded no out inning by Wacha was about as clutch as you can get.

@AdamMcCalvy: If I'm a rival GM, Cards are unwatchable. Wacha, Siegrest, Martinez, Rosenthal - rookies throwing gas - delivered all but 3 pitches of G2.

That's sick

I know the pitching has been dominant but the Dodgers approach at the plate is terrible. 13 K's including 9 by your 3-4-5. Just swinging for the fences hoping to connect on a pitch. Puig just has to put the ball in play with bases loaded and odds are something good happens so he takes a swing that puts him on his knees and isn't even close.

That's not the way Puig plays ball at this stage of his career. He'll figure it out eventually.

Still can't believe the Cards are sitting up 2-0 and got past both Greinke and Kershaw. If Wainwright can do his thing in Game 3 and keep the Dodgers' bats quiet, that's going to be a massive hole to get out of for LA.

If that happens, does Greinke go on short rest for Game 4 and Kershaw in Game 5 (and possibly Greinke again in game 7)?

Puig is like the second coming of Manny Ramirez in the outfield.
How so?
The half-assed, lackadaisical way he approaches balls hit in his direction at times. Like Carpenter's triple in the first today. Just seemed Manny Ramirez-like, although in Puig's case, it is probably immaturity and youth, while Ramirez was just a goofy juicer who didn't like to work very hard.
Manny is one of my most disliked players ever, but every story that went even a little bit in-depth about him showed that he was actually an incredibly hard worker. Well, at least offensively...

And in my opinion by the end, he actually became a serviceable Fenway LF.

Given how this is going, I almost expect the Dodgers to beat Wainwright tomorrow. The Cards bats aren't exactly on fire, so I see the Dodgers winning like 4-2 or something. I hope I am wrong, but I don't see the Dodgers going down this fast.

Pretty questionable managerial moves by Mattingly in back to back innings. Pinch runs Gordon for AGone with no out, Puig up and Puig grounds into a force eliminting Gordon.

Then he pinch hits Schumacker for Greinke with no one on and 2 out in the 9th, when he could have maybe used Van Slyke. Now Schumacker a versitile player, is also out of a game that could go extras.
Piling on... Bunting Crawford to second gave Matheny an excuse to intentionally walk Hanley Ramirez and pitch to Gonzalez Young.
Jonah Keri crushed Mattingly's decision-making in his column today. He brought up the quoted play as an example, mentioning the 12-year-old manager from Little Big League specifically described how to avoid the scenario Mattingly played himself into in a key scene from the movie.

I find it interesting how quiet this thread is, especially compared to the AL thread.

Looks like another pitching beauty for Game 3 where 1 run may win it again.

WTMF Jay??!!!! Three errors? Killing me.
Oscar Taveras for CF in 2014. YES WE CAN.
I'm generally a Jay fan but he's drunk or on the take or something. Ridiculous they called all of those hits. Descalso might be on crack too.
I'm ready to part with one of the 10 or so RHPs in the organization 25 or younger who throw 98 MPH fastballs to get a CF who can field and hit.

Same deal to get a real SS, too.

Keep hording pitching IMO. This is where the Allen Craig injury really hurts this team. Should have Holliday-Beltran-Craig out there.

And despite all those flame throwing young righties, the Cards still start Lance Lynn in the playoffs.

I believe he's the winningest pitcher in baseball the last two years

Proof that wins-losses are an imperfect stat.

True. They seem to hit for him. Hopefully that trend continues.

Oof@the strikezone tonight.
:goodposting: Bad calls both sides.
Agreed.
This is what hurt the Cards in that 2nd game vs. Pitt. Usually disciplined hitters, lots of called strikes that probably shouldn't have been. That said, it has been on both sides tonight and they benefited as well (that 1st Puig strikeout, for example).

Oh well, Dodgers played an excellent game when they needed to and this series is far from over. Tomorrow night is key for both teams. Must win.
