The draft is still so far away since they moved it back. I haven't even really sat down to take more than a cursory glance at what will be there. It will all change now that the combine is done anyway. I want them to focus on defense but if there is an offensive playmaker at WR that they really want, I won't be displeased. I would be utterly shocked if they took a QB before round 4 though. IF they sign a veteran FA, then I'd be shocked if they take one at all.

Free Agency is my big concern right now. Signing Ward or Byrd is a must IMO. They're both young and way more talented than what we have. We're very spacious with the cap room right now. I think Howie has shown a much more flexible approach to the cap management than Banner did. So I see us making a legitimate run at one of the 2 safeties. Outside of landing one of those guys, I see some more minor adds for depth or to compete in camp.

I think both Ward and Byrd get franchise tagged. Every team needs a safety. No way you let one walk for nothing.

Byrd was tagged last year and has been adamant he does not want to get tagged again.

There's speculation the Browns may use it on Mack if they can't resign him before the tagging deadline. If they do resign him before the deadline, I'll expect them to tag Ward.

You are probably right to not count our chickens before they hatch because its possible they both get tagged.

Ian Rapoport via Twitter:

"The #Bills still want to do a deal with S Jairus Byrd. If not, I’m told they plan to franchise tag him. Won’t let him get away for nothing"

I don't mind Earl Wolff starting, I believe he's a natural SS. I'd look to bring in a good FS via the draft or free agency for sure. Another pass rusher would also be nice.

Unreal, Shady might make the HoF thanks to those guys. Don't leave out Mathis either.

Surprised they extended Peters, but tough to get mad about keeping an All Pro LT a few more years.
I am not surprised by it. 5th time being All-Pro, and after he tore his Achilles twice the year before.

Oh I am not. Can't forget Kelce either (who might have an extension in the works too). I am biased, but I feel we have the best line in the league. PFF graded us #9, with not one starter having a negative grade.

I think the timing of this extension shows how unconcerned they are with resigning Maclin and Cooper.

I don't think it means they won't resign them, but I think it does send a message that they are not going to pay crazy high prices and are willing to let them both walk if they aren't willing to take a reasonable salary.

Jeff McLane is saying the Eagles might be looking to trade Bryce Brown. What would they be looking for? A 5th?

4. By the end of last season, running back Chris Polk was playing as many snaps on offense as Bryce Brown, although hardly enough to make a dent into LeSean McCoy’s touches. One NFL source familiar with the Eagles’ plans said that Polk would have a more prominent role next season, obviously if Brown gets traded as some believe he will. It is believed Chip Kelly prefers Polk’s north-to-south running style, especially because he wastes so few yards, and that he sees the third-year tailback as a better complement to McCoy. Polk has also become a solid special teams player, something Brown did very little of last season. Brown regressed last season, but he did rush for 119 yards against the Bears in the penultimate regular season game of 2013. There is still a healthy market for the 22-year old, but trades will be difficult to pull off because of the increasing salary cap.

Love it:

@ZBerm: Eagles heavily invested in 2 tackles. So what would Howie do if top player on board at 22 is a tackle? Howie: "We're going to take him."

@ZBerm: H. Roseman on why a deal now: When we looked at our team and where we wanted to be a year, 2 years from now, Jason was a big part of that.

@ZBerm: Roseman: "The level of play was unheard of. He has the chance to be a Hall-of-Fame-type player in an Eagles uniform."

PFT was reporting that Avant will probably be cut. That will free up about $3.2 million which I am sure they could use to help sign both Cooper and Maclin, if they wanted. I think if they don't sign both, they don't want both, the salary cap really won't be a determining factor.

Great resigning of Peters. All pro and future HOF'er JMO. Bookend tackles is exactly how to anchor a very good O-line. Protect the franchise qb, all pro rb who make this offense click.

Hard not to love this run-heavy offensive style, and Peters IMO is a huge part of that!

Fine with either Maclin or Cooper across from Desean. Ertz should improve. Hope the front office can bring in another talented wr to replace Avant in the slot. He's a great leader, but older and not really much of an impact player in the slot.

Here's to year two of the Kelly era!

And Tim McManus of Birds 24/7 reported today that Jason Kelce should get a new deal pretty soon. Need some depth at the guard spots, but boy is it nice to not have to worry about the o-line.

In this buyers market with a deep draft, it's unlikely to be huge. Hopefully not bigger than the Kevin Curtis deal. Remember that one? Lol. Kelce deal to be announced soon too.

Love the signings. We have enough money to play around with this offseason, we may as well use it. Once Foles gets extended, we can look at cuts/restructures at that time. But with the whole o-line back, all our running/receiving options remaining the same (probably better with improved ertz, healthy maclin, etc), then that is pretty exciting.

Love that they're getting the whole O locked up, and looks like we're gonna have an exciting draft/FA going all in on defense.

I'm actually not expecting anything big in FA. Howie was on record saying that he's not really a fan of giving 'outsiders' big deals because it can mess with the locker room.

If Ward or Byrd even hit FA they'll be the highest paid at their position. I can't see us doing that. I could see a Malcom Jenkins or something though.

Hope it's reasonable. I'm a big believer in not spending big bucks at RB/WR unless you have a true elite player.
At this point why fix something that's not broken? I went on a rant erlier but play well and get paid is good for moral. Decent recievers can't do us any harm for now. When its time to pay Foles maybe some tough decision are to come. And my dynasty teams NEED Cooper to remain an Eagle. I just got him late in the 12th round in a startup for those that care.

@RoobCSN: pix that became C Eric Wood, TE Shawn Nelson, LB Arthur Moats MT @BrentJonesin do you know what Eagles gave up in trade to get Jason Peters?

Continuity on a record setting caliber offense is a tremendous advantage but we've also heard how much of a learning curve there was with Kelly's offense and that there will be more to see in year 2 and beyond. That is inhibited by rotating parts out. I like Coopers size on the outside with Maclin working the slot and I'd love to get Cooks in the 2nd if those pieces are in place.

@GeoffMosherCSN: League source tells me Riley Cooper will sign a 4-year deal tomorrow with Eagles. @Jeff_McLane and PFT reported today that deal was close.

That's awesome. I love Roseman.
It was rocky at first because we all thought he was Joe Banner Jr. but I've been highly impressed with how accessible he is with the fans. He doesn't give too much since it's his job to be coy but he doesn't blow you off either like Banner did. Plus his style is a lot less rigid than Joe's. I'm very excited to see what he has in store for this draft.

And now Les Bowen on Twitter:

Source close to the situation tells me #Eagles are making progress toward a deal with Jeremy Maclin.
That actually would be great. To get both Cooper and Maclin back makes drafting a WR a luxury. If there's a can't miss value, bring him in and improve the slot. Otherwise go heavy on defense and make this an all round good team.

Frankly I could care less about personality, comments like that tells me he gets it. Drafting in today's transient NFL is about taking the BPA regardless of your current roster makeup. If it's not a need now, it very well could be one tomorrow.

Personality reflects that. Roseman has a good personality and has shown to be flexible in signing players and drafting them. Banner was a no nonsense penny pincher that wouldn't budge from his capology and that cost him some key players over the years.

Fair enough and yes he does. I've enjoyed the times I've heard him. That comment also exudes confidence which I love to sense from my GM, especially when it espouses a fundamentally sound approach.

Hope they still can resign Maclin

CSN Philadelphia reports the Eagles will sign free agent WR Riley Cooper to a four-year contract on Thursday.
The Philly Inquirer reported earlier in the day that the sides were close. We're fascinated to see the money as Cooper returns from a career-best year. Then-rookie coach Chip Kelly stood behind Cooper through an incredibly difficult time following Cooper's drunken, racist remarks at a Kenny Chesney concert, then started him in every game. We suspect the Eagles will get Cooper at a discount price, perhaps something in the $3 million to $4 million per-year range.

Schefter: Eagles reached agreement with WR Riley Cooper on a five-year, $25 million deal, per a league source.

9:00am - 27 Feb 14

Caplan: The #Eagles and C Jason Kelce agreed on a 6-yr, 37.5 M extension with $13 M guaranteed, per sources.
