At least we got a safety, so we don't feel compelled to trade up to draft a safety higher then we should....

Still would love to see a deal to get Dion Jordan for pennies on the dollar...
Would like a Jordan deal. I can still see them drafting either Pryor or Ha Ha if they fall to 22.

I think WR is a huge priority for them now. As much as we want defense, Kelly still wants a new toy for his offense. With Foles as my Keeper, I can't wait for that.
Maclin is pretty much a new toy for Chip though. I'm not a huge fan of this TE class, but maybe next year I'd like to see another pass-catching TE with speed added along side Ertz to really open things up for Chip and Foles.
Maclin is a hand me down that he can make due with. I think he wants to have something young and fresh in here. Something he can mold.

After hearing they didn't want a 'in the box' style safety, not sure they'd want Pryor, isn't he in the same mold?

HaHa sure, doubt he falls to 22 though. I'm guessing a CB or WR is our 1st round pick.

Sucks:

@AdamSchefter: Filed to ESPN: Denver has emerged as the favorite to land former Dallas DE DeMarcus Ware, per league sources.
Figured they would be in the hunt for either him, Peppers or Allen.
Peppers is pretty craptatsic now for the cost.

BTW, "craptatsic" TM.
After Talib deal, I don't think they can get Ware too.
I think they can. They're doing the same thing New Orleans did by signing Byrd: loading up for the short term.

Per @JasonLaCanfora: The Eagles beat out the Redskins for the services of Seattle LB Chris Maragos, an elite special teams performer.

Caplan reports 3yr/4mil 1 mil guaranteed

At 5'10" 200lbs he's actually a Safety but it's a nice address for the ST.

Nice. Cheap vet signing to help the special teams. Price looks good for Jenkins JMO. Not a pro bowler, but a very solid safety. Eagles get him for what should be his prime years (28-30), and besides being a leader (captain of NOLA D last two years, great locker room guy) it's indisputable he's a huge upgrade from Chung.

Sounds like Ware will probably sign with the Broncos. Like the Maragos signing as it will help ST alot. Jenkins isn't anything special but solid and a great leader, something this team has been lacking since Dawk left. Pretty much what I expected. Solid signings but no blockbusters. I am OK with that. Still need a pass rushing OLB.

I like what they are doing. Jenkins is a solid addition for the defense. Maclin is a solid addition for the offense. Maragos is a solid addition for the special teams. The draft should help both defense and special teams. Pretty soon, if you have enough solid additions in all phases, you have no weaknesses. That is a team then that can win every game because they will be in every game.

Assuming they make some more good moves on defense, their biggest weakness going into the season is kicker. What good veteran kickers are out there?

Is Neal still out there?

I'm not a fan of overreacting in FA but I'd have Ware on the first plane to Philly.
I'd wait until I saw the numbers before I make a judgment on that. Denever knows their Manning window is closing so their going to go ape sh!t with the spending for a year or two window. IMO we just need a guy to compliment Cole, we shouldnt over spend for that IMO.

I was hoping Ware felt spurned by what Dallas did and would come here for the chance to face his old team twice and plan on a D (3-4) that he excelled in. If not Ware maybe they look at Woodley but I'm fine with a guy like Neal

Steven Hauschka is the best available, Josh Brown out there as well. But signing one of them would mean moving on from Henery, and the Eagles seem reluctant to do so. They've talked about bringing in some competition for the job. I'm thinking that will end up being a UDFA or a veteran like Shayne Graham. Probably not the solution fans are looking for.

Eagles sign LB Bryan Braman for 2 year deal. He spent his first 3 years in Houston and has 29 tackles and .5 sacks. Something about those Texans LBs they like.

Pretty sure Hauschka re-upped with Seattle, as did Graham with the Saints.

Just checked free agent tracker - Graham and Brown have re-signed with their teams. Hauschka is still available. So is Robbie Gould. Either one would be a clear upgrade over Henery. Why the hesitation Howie?

Braman is nothing special as a linebacker but is a beast as a special teams player. Good signing.

I'd love it if they signed Neal. Always thought he was a little underrated.

Schefter: Filed to ESPN: Pending a physical, former Cowboys DE DeMarcus Ware reached agreement with Broncos on 3-year, $30M contract include $20M gtd.

When did Rueben Amaro become GM of the Broncos?

Adam Levitan‏@adamlevitan1 min

In last 24 hours, Broncos have signed DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib & TJ Ward to contracts totaling $110M. $60 million of that is guaranteed.

I'm glad the Eagles are being smart with their money. Trying to build a franchise through the draft and supplementing through free agency is the way to go. Denver's plan works for them because they have a Hall of Fame QB with 1 or 2 years left. But if the Eagles gave Byrd 9 mil/year and Ware 10 mil/year you can't extend your core players like Foles, Boykin, Kendricks, Cox, etc.

Not to mention what happens if Talib gets hurt or is involved in an off the field incident? What if Ware is really just past his prime and can't get it done anymore? You have nothing behind them because you spent all your money on those guys.

That's nucking futs! Well, I hate Manning and the broncos. Will be fun to see them blow it again and then be in a downward spiral for years.

It's the "all in" move by the Broncos. Ware doesn't have too much left and signing him for 20 mill guaranteed is not looking into the future. It's 2014 or bust for the Broncos.

Bears extended Gould a while back - he is not a FA

I remember when Free Agency was like Christmas morning. I guess it still is and this is like getting nothing but socks and underwear. Sure I need them, but they aren't gonna make my friends jealous.

Bring on the draft.

OK I give up.

@GeoffMosherCSN: MJ on Eagles: "Best opportunity for me to be successful."

@GeoffMosherCSN: Jenkins said Oakland, St Louis showed interest. Rams DC Greg Williams was his DC in NO.

@LesBowen: Malcolm Jenkins says "I'm about winning." Says Eagles contacted him early in the process

@GeoffMosherCSN: Jenkins said it was apparent by Week 4 or 5 that the Eagles were a different kind of team under Chip Kelly.

@LesBowen: Malcolm Jenkins feels he'll be able to move around in Eagles' scheme

@GeoffMosherCSN: On being 2-time captain in NO, Jenkins: "I'm kind of a natural born leader. Been a captain on every team I played on."

@GeoffMosherCSN: Jenkins said his stats fluctuated by year because scheme changed. In 2010 he played more inside slot.

@GeoffMosherCSN: Jenkins: "I didn't want to go to a dysfunctional organization. And there are plenty of them out there."

@ZBerm: Just finished with Malcolm Jenkins. He said his best seasons ('10 as example) came when he was allowed to be versatile and move around.

@TomPelissero: APY for safeties: Byrd $9M, Whitner $7M, Ward $5.625M, Bethea $5.25M, Jenkins $5.17M, Mitchell $5M.

I would have done Revis @ 12mil for one year. Would like to know if the Birds even had a chance.
Seems like there would be a ton of pressure because of him and this one year for Chip. He knew where he wanted to go and even told the Jets before hand. Very smart business man he is.

So what's our next move? Still have needs to address, still have plenty of cap dollars to spend. The supply of impact edge rushers is dwindling, hopefully we don't get caught waiting too long for value to emerge. Probably need to add another safety and DL depth too. And let's not neglect backup QB, because that pool is a shallow one.

there weren't many (any?) good 3-4 edge rushers in FA this year. Who knows, maybe Barkley with a year XP will be good enough to be a #2 QB?

No way in hell do I trust him as backup. But then again I was against the pick from the beginning.

I'm willing to see how Barkley looks what we hear about him this year before judging him as a #2. I honestly think his situation and the #2 QB in general is really overblown.

You're right about the rushers. The only real one was Ware and all the others were DE's that your have to convert to OLB. I think this will be something we add in the draft. Maybe Barr if he drops some or a guy like Dee Ford who liked really quick and should be there around our pick. We could also use a pig at NT and of course some DB help.

After sitting through the 'Barkley' game vs the NYG at the Linc...he has a lot of growth ahead of him before I could trust him in a real game. 0 offensive points. Only a handful of first downs. Just terrible. He should be better, but there needs to be competition in camp for the backup IMO

Via trade, as per Mike and Mike!

Awesome. Another boost to ST's, and what a weapon to mix in with Shady and DeSean and Maclin. So much speed and quickness!

Fly Eagles Fly!

As a McCoy owner I would NOT be happy about the trade, but it helps the team outside the world of FF. No doubt the Eagles are becoming the best team in the division.
