More speculation about Jackson:http://www.phillymag.com/birds247/2014/03/17/desean-upset-eagles-silent/#.UybqqqvkAYE.twitter

Nothing new but it's interesting the organization won't confirm his status. May be just media nonsense, time will tell.
Where there's smoke there's fire.I wouldn't be opposed to it. Multiple picks for him in this draft woulid do it for me.
I don't know if I would be ok with losing him. Offer would have to be an overpayment I think to let him go, and with his salary/cap hit I doubt that happens.
Iwouldn't deal him for anything less than a first. Depending on where you pick you could replace him with maybe evans or lee.
I think compensation should be similar to the Percy Harvin trade, 1st, 7th and next years 3rd.

I don't think we would get that much, but a first round pick is bare minimum.

That being said, I think the Eagles are masterfully playing this. They leaked to the media that DJ is on the market. Meanwhile, they officially have no comment. That way they can field offers without ever officially shopping him around. DJ might get a little upset but at least the Eagles can deny they ever shopped him if they cant trade him.

Derrick Gunn from CSN Philly says Eagles are listening to trades and want at least a 3rd. Pats and 49ers have already inquired. I'd be pretty mad if we don't get a 1st.

I would be too. The Eagles would take a $6M cap hit trading him and the team getting him would have him on a 3 year/$29M deal - non-guaranteed.

Yeah, no kidding. Not worth it unless the return is sufficient.

A would be ok. 3rd round is too low. We don't need the cap room, why bother moving him unless he's that disruptive in the locker room...

So media speculates that maybe Desean doesn't fit in the lockerroom which on a surface level is obvious. They then run a weeks worth of potential trade scenarios stirring the talk radio pot in a dead time before the NCAA tournament and Baseball. The gm comes on and said they have no plans to trade Desean but because he didn't specifically say Desean is our boy, that means he is secretly shopping him to the league.

That about right?

Desean will be in Midnight green this fall unless some team offers a Harvin type deal.

Report: Eagles listening to offers for DeSean JacksonPosted by Mike Florio on March 18, 2014, 5:23 PM EDT

APThe Eagles apparently have “no intent” to trade DeSean Jackson.

Derrick Gunn of CSNPhilly.com reports that, while the Eagles aren’t actively shopping Jackson, they’re listening to teams that are calling up with offers. According to Gunn, calls have come from the Patriots and the 49ers.

And now that the word is out, there’s no need to actively shop Jackson. Because potentially interested teams will keep calling.

While not actively shopping Jackson, the Eagles are looking for at least a third-round draft pick for Jackson, who is due to earn a base salary of $10.5 million in 2014.

Rumors about Jackson’s status gained steam after the Eagles signed both Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper to deals worth far less per year than Jackson’s. Last week, Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com suggested on PFT Live that Jackson could be one mistake away from being run out of town.

As it stands, Jackson is one phone call away from no longer being an Eagles.

if we lose Jackson I wont miss him that much. getting tired of hearing him whine about his contract every off season....

Way too low. IMO if the Eagles were truly set on moving D-Jax for a 3rd rounder, he'd have been on a plane to Carolina 14 seconds after word got out.

I want to believe that this is just the usual pre-draft smokescreen, meant to give teams a heads-up that they may have other options when they're sitting on the clock in the late 1st in a few weeks and Watkins / Evans / Lee are already off the board. But this seems like an awful long advance notice to be giving if they're playing that game, especially when you're talking about a master of the bruised ego like #10.

Which is why until a trade comes down, I'm chalking this all up to predraft nonsense thrown against the wall to see what sticks.

We, Carolina, can't afford the contract.

There's a difference between can't afford and don't want to pay.

Kind of like TO.
I dunno, maclin/cooper sounds eerily reminiscent of the pinkston/thrash days. WR doesn't sound like a priority until you don't have an elite one.....
How many elite WRs win championships? Better yet, how many 5'10" WRs being paid $10mil/yr have won it?

Harvin is 5'11" and makes $10 mil per year. He was hurt all year but made a couple big plays in the SB that definitely had a big impact on the game. To some extent you need playmakers on offense. At least it doesn't hurt.

Car has no cap space.

Harvin played 2 games at $10 mil. He proves my point, not yours.
The counterpoint is you can pay Harvin $10m and still have a SB winning team. Further, Harvin's appearance in the SB definitely made the win easier (they probably win without him, but the 30 yd run in q1 and ko return after halftime were both killers). Having short well paid WR doesn't preclude you from winning. There's been plenty of 6' and under WR in SBs. You can pick out Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Marvin Harrison, Donald Driver as other examples in the not so distant past. Yes the rest of the team has to be good too, but you can say that about any position from QB on down. I am not that against getting rid of DeSean, I just don't think his contract is that prohibitive especially now that FA is basically over and that money is just going to go in Lurie's bank account until 2015. The contract is team friendly if you just want to get rid of him next year. Getting rid of him doesn't help our chances this year unless you just think he is a ##### that will ruin the clubhouse, and getting a late 3rd doesn't help our chances in any season significantly either.

No pro bowl player is so much of a disruption that they dump him for nothing. Have we learned nothing from the whole TO thing? Yes star WR's don't win championships on their own. No player wins it on their own. Otherwise, Peyton would have 10 Super Bowls by now. This whole DJax is selfish and greedy thing is ridiculous. The guy got paid an average of $491k his first 5 years in the league and people are going to begrudge him for wanting to get as much as he can now? It's not like Desean ran to the press and said "I demand a new contract and they won't give me one." The media is loving this ####storm they brewed up. It has the simple minded in town in an uproar over nothing.

Bottomline, Desean has 3, 1000 yard seasons in his career. He just finished a 82-1300-9 season. Finished in the top 10 in receiving yards and had the 3rd best receiving average of the top 10 (Gordon and Calvin only better). So despite people's misguided perceptions, he is a #1.

Eagles can cut him whenever they want. If he gets a career ending injury tomorrow, they don't owe him a thing and it only hurts their cap number. So please stop it with this he's a greedy selfish baby nonsense. It's a business and he wants to get paid, just like every other player out there.

DeSean's Career DYAR prior to Chip Kelly according to FBO:2008 DYAR Rank: 56th

2009 DYAR Rank: 20th

2010 DYAR Rank: 46th

2011 DYAR Rank: 39th

2012 DYAR Rank: 72nd

This is who you think is worth top-5 WR money?

In Chip Kelly Offense:

2013 DYAR Rank: 7th

He's a byproduct of the system. DeSean has never even cracked the top-20 in a stat thats based on being better than the average WR. How can he not be replaced if that's the case? Go look at the numbers Oregon players put up in this offense. Players like Jeff Maehl outproduced DeSean by a wide margin in the same conference while playing for CK. I'm not saying Maehl is better, because he's not, but Chip is responsible for the production. If you believe that then a 3rd round rookie WR would probably be a stud in this offense with Nick Foles while saving 30M+. Heck, even Riley Cooper had a career year. He put up virtually the same #'s as Desean did while playing with Foles. http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=684751&page=12#entry16623442

I don't believe the rumors either FWIW.

I don't believe a 3rd round rookie would do the same. I'm not opposed to moving Jackson but at this point he has no leverage in a new deal. Most likely he's gone before next season anyway. If you're going to move him, it shouldn't be for anything less than a first.

What I have a problem with is all these people jumping on the DJax hate wagon. This is TO 2.0. I was against TO back then but after you had time to think about it, what did he really do? Ask for more money? Quarrel with the now disliked QB? They ran him out and were not at that high level again in the Reid era. We need to at least be compensated this time. 3 rd round is not compensation. That's just saying go away.

Trading away Desean shouldn't happen. He has a quality that really seems to help this offense that nobody else quite provides. His speed and playmaking ability (including after the catch, which Cooper lacks) forces defenses to account for him. His ability to go deep on any given play takes the top off the D and forces them to not play up as much. This creates the underneath space that allows all of Chip's receivers (and his running plays) to flourish between the numbers. Nobody is going to give us picks in the 1st or 2nd, it seems, so why lose that element for a 3rd or worse? Is he THAT bad of a locker room source?

And a 3rd from a Playoff team means it would be around pick 100 or so. Big difference than high 60's.

What would you rather have DeSean and a 1st round IDP, or Cooks and a 3rd round IDP? That is really the trade off.
Considering I think DeSean basically represents Cooks' NFL ceiling, to me it's a no-brainer. To be honest (and without knowing what's going on in the locker room) I'm not sure I'd take Cooks for DeSean straight up, unless I knew I was 2-3 years away from competing ... which the Eagles patently are not.

I still think this is all a smokescreen. At least I hope so.

Wondering if the front office intentionally leaked this to tell DeSean to just play and keep your mouth shut.

I totally agree. I like Desean put he is a mirage of a #1 WR IMO. If he truely wants more money (as he's stated) then we KNOW what we get from him when he's unhappy and it's nothing. So, do you trade a guy who would give you nothing and be a problem for a 3rd round pick? With as close as we are you have to IMO.

I also think people are wrong to look at it as if it's the 3rd round pick replacing Jackson's production. It would be a combination of Ertz, Maclin and Sproles along with any WR they pick. I think that definitley could replace his production.

As far as the T.O. stuff I don't think him and Jackson, as players, are even on the same planet.

I'm 50/50 with these rumors right now. If money is the issue Howie already knows how this plays out and he'd be stupid to go through that again. Also as I've mentioned above Chip wants bigger players. He knows the shelf life of a guy like Jackson and his window isnt big at all.

DJax - Can't run block (very important in CK's system), lacks size, average hands, gives up on plays, takes plays off, has questionable attitude, may be a locker room distraction.

Which is why they may be listening to offers like they would for anyone. However, if people think he's so replaceable I'd cautiously warn that without Djax drawing doubles, who is Riley Cooper? Without Riley Cooper having a breakout year, who is Zach Ertz? Also without the respect Djax demands, how many fewer holes does shady get?

Unless a rookie is like Calvin coming out, you're not going to have him come in and demand the same attention DJax got from defenses last year. That creates a lot less room out there.

Best scenario is you keep DJax this year, draft a Wr in the first 3 rounds (which they probably planned on anyway), then if DJax doesn't restructure before next year you at least have a player with a year in the system.

Unless Jackson is such a malcontent that he will destroy your locker room, it makes no sense to trade him at this point.

Yes. He is productive. Usually the #1 thing for NFL Players. Everything else is just talk. I know a lot of his teammates like him. Jason Kelce follows me on twitter. That's how I know in case you were wondering.

Wondering if the front office intentionally leaked this to tell DeSean to just play and keep your mouth shut.
I am certain of it. This organization only leaks stuff it wants made public.
Seems it could backfire though. Seems like he is willing to put out effort when his future is secure. "Let's make it seem like we'll cut him next year regardless of how well he plays." Seems like you're asking for sit ups in the driveway and a midseason suspension for violating team rules.

I trust Chip to build a team and if he cuts DeSean, I wouldn't question his master plan. But I don't trust him to handle egos. It seems - based on who he's signed and who he's drafted - like he wants to avoid egos.

DeSean's Career DYAR prior to Chip Kelly according to FBO:

2008 DYAR Rank: 56th

I think the respect Jackson demands is severly overblown. If he had that kind of effect on a game then you would be flooded with offers despite his price...that talk wouldnt be about a 3rd round pick, it would be 3+ picks IMO

My only worry (and it could be a big one) is that if he's unhappy and causes a problem, our season is done and he goes for less then a 3 and who knows how the locker room feels. It has the potential to get very ugly very fast IMO

Unless Jackson is such a malcontent that he will destroy your locker room, it makes no sense to trade him at this point.
I agree. The last time he went in the tank our season was ruined and he was a big reason why. Howie was there then too and if he thinks this heads in that same direction he HAS to move now.

I think he basically did go to the press with his contract complaints - while walking off the field from a playoff loss to the Saints. I was blown away at the time, thinking why is this the thing he wanted to talk about after his TEAM just lost the most important game of the season. I am not on board with getting rid of him, but i thought this storm might be coming after those comments in January.

Yeah. He can absolutely blow the top off of a defense. Very few players in the league can do what he does. Why do you think Cooper had such success? It's not all Kelly's system. If you believe that than he'll we can roll with Polk at RB and trade McCoy for a king's ransom.

I think as well this is all a smokescreen but if the team thought he was near losing a step, then that would be the time to deal him. Once his speed diminishes a bit, he's done. Don't think that will be for a few years yet though.
