He HAD to do something. If they're going to cut him they'll be paying 6 million just to go away.
Yes. But what could be so egregious to cut a pro bowl player with no headlines of misconduct?
Pretty much since Howie has been the GM you simply don't see ANY headlines. Chip was off of the map when we looked for a coach. Even our FA signings seem to come out of nowhere. Hell, you don't even hear about FA visits here anymore. This doesn't shock me that we haven't heard anything from them because we haven't for almost 2 years now.If it's truly at the point where we will pay him 6 million to leave you HAVE to believe it got messy. We are not that inept to just cut someone for no good reason. Given what Desean said once the season ended I think we can put two and two together at this point.
I'm going to be pretty disappointed if this is just a contract dispute. I want to hear he was banging players wives or coaches wives or secretly doing blow or something.
Its about money. "Cutting Jackson would save $6.5 million against the 2014 cap, and perhaps more importantly, shave roughly $11 million off Philly's 2015 salary cap commitments." -Rotoworld
Don't buy that at all. It can't just be about money, as Djax will be making LESS elsewhere next year if he's cut... and we have so much cap room. Something messed up happened or is going on, someone please find out!
Agree 100%. It had to get messy and involve more money IMO.

Just for a refresher this is what happened just a couple years ago when he wanted more money. If you're Howie and him and his agent come asking for more money you CAN NOT chance this happening.

I think that is the big fear. They are going to pay a guy 10 million and he is going to half ### it and complain on top of it. He has done it before.

I'm hearing a certain AFC team is starting it kick the tires for desean. No solid offer made though. He said he would be surprised if they got him.
Even though they just signed Nicks? Nicks, Hilton, DHB, Wayne... not sure there's room for Desean.
Yeah, he said it wasn't serious talks, but they were just seeing what Philly was looking for. I don't think they're sold Wayne is going to be ok this year.

Been holding out hope as long as possible, but now I've finally resigned myself to the truth - Jackson will be gone one way or another. So now I want to hear the whole truth, every grimy detail about what went down behind the scenes. Something pretty ugly must have transpired, it can't have been a pure cap math issue.

What I want to understand most of all is, when did the team decide to move on from Jackson? Because if they had been planning to dump him since before free agency began, then the strategy they've employed thus far is utterly bewildering. Why wait for WR-needy teams to spend all their cap dollars before making Jackson available? It's a double whammy - the list of potential trade partners is drastically depleted, and the cupboard is now bare of options to replace Jackson's production. From where I'm sitting, it seems mind-blowingly foolish. And Roseman does not strike me as a fool.

Thus I've got to believe that something happened within the last two weeks that made them sour on Desean. And we better hear all about it, if they expect the fans to keep the faith.
Agreed their strategy here in unloading him is very disappointing....how do they let it become common knowledge he will be cut if not traded killing all trade value. If they were getting a good pick I could deal with it but this is stupid.

I don't get why they'd cut him though. Bewildering. If he threatens holdout, ok, let him holdout. If he pouts, demote him - a pout would kill any future earnings he'd have. Trading him - not a fan, but ok, at least we get some return. Cutting him? No idea what that rationale would be.

Agree. Just like the Darelle Revis situation, there's no way they'll be able to trade him now.

They don't need to trade him now. His salary isn't fully guaranteed until September.

Knowing that there is obviously a real rift here and that the Eagles may actually cut him, what kind of trade offer can anyone expect? Nothing of any import to be sure. This a lose-lose for the birds and I'm scratching my head wondering how this all happened.

It's not a lose-lose if multiple teams have interest. Revis was making 16 million with TB that's a Desean and another half as far as salary goes.

Then I hope they wait til Aug 31 to cut him. See if we can get anything and screw him in catching in w a new team.

And I don't know how true this is but apparently Desean has been posting pics or has of him and gang members from his old neighborhood on Instagram or something?

Why? How does that benefit anyone?

I just don't understand all this hateful sentiment against Desean from people calling in to talk radio and on the boards. You'd think he was Todd Pinkston with how bad people think he plays and Aaron Hernandez with how offensive his personality is according to some.

And I don't know how true this is but apparently Desean has been posting pics or has of him and gang members from his old neighborhood on Instagram or something?
Flashing gang signs, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

I doubt it's just one thing but between the gang stuff, the contract and whatever else is going on it probably got to be too much.

I wonder if Chip knows or knew this about him from his college days as well. They were also saying that he (Jackson) has a record label and evidently the spelling of it coinsides with one of the gangs--bloods or crips, I don't remember which they said.

There was a tmz report that Desean is a crip; however one of the photos linked above had him hanging with The Game who is or was a blood.

I'm not sure I buy any of it. If it were true I'm not sure Desean would be so active in his anti bullying efforts.

The peace sign is a gang sign now?
I'm a little old but I'm pretty sure in pic 3, for instance, he was about to fight Hall and even out up his fists like a boxer would. I HIGHLY doubt he was saying "peace"...

Given the situation and him being gone, what round pick would you be happy with getting for him at this point? Are we happy with a 5th?

No. I'll settle for a 3 and will be happy if it's anything more then that. We just need a couple teams to be interested and we should be able to get 2 picks back.

No need to do him any favors by cutting him earlier. ..might as well hold out for something before cutting him. They have pretty much screwed that up though.

at this point I think if we get a 4th rounder we have to be happy though. Of course thats way less then market value, but considering we may cut him, a 4th would be good.

jets are sounding like they're gonna make a push for him.

And if he has done something leave him around all through training camp? Or if he hasn't, you get zero value for him and create an unnecessary distraction. It's a spiteful decision either way and a terrible business one.

Every frat boy in the country throws up corny hand gestures like that in pics these days. I wouldn't read too much into this.

You really think he's showing up for camp? Cutting him in March or cutting him in August is zero value either way. Trade him or cut him right before pay is guaranteed. Best business decision they can make to follow the bad ones made to get here.

From what I can tell the stories about him possible being gang related started around mid to late January with him flashing Crip gang sings. The Deangelo Hall one was just this past season and the other one from Instagram I believe was after this season.

I don't know that it's at all related but this could be an underlying thing with him.

It seems he went off the deep end after his father died. I feel for him, he wouldn't be the first.

Anyone saying or insinuating that this is strictly about money from the Eagles' standpoint just hasn't paid any attention to his antics and related them to what Kelly and Roseman envision for this team going forward.

Wow. Amazed you don't have a front office position somewhere. You really have it figured out.

You just answered the "Why trade a non essential distraction player?" Thanks for your brilliance.
My questioning was why wait until August. Petty spite? Some people in this town can't help themselves. I bet he thinks Jimmy's a no talent bum, TO got what was coming to him, Scott Rolen was a whiner, Lindros a mommas boy and Donovan was the worst QB we've ever had. I do hate some of the people in this town when it comes to sports.Aldo love how Desean is suddenly non essential. We'll see.

Personally, I think players maintaining gang affiliations SHOULD be near impossible to move. WHile disapointed in the overall outcome, I have no problem simply dropping him and would not in any way hold that as a failure by the current organization. I would hold it as a failure of the previous regime if this was known when they signed him to that 10 Mil per contract.

Amani Toomer was a host on Sirius NFL this am and said that the last thing you want in a locker room is to have your highest paid player to be a chronic malcontent. He believes it totally undermines the coach and the organization. Losing DeSean is Addition by Subtraction.

So I was looking at this mock draft on drafttek.com and it has Johnny Manziel dropping to Philly at #22.

If Manziel is there at #22, does Philly take him? I would think they'd go either WR (depending on DJax situation) or OLB/DE.

Ya lost me at Scott Rolen.

Sielski's column explains this and yes, we'll see. Which is exactly the approach I'm taking with this team. Show me on the field. I'm a fan of the jersey, not the names on the back. Win the division again and maybe a playoff game and I'm happy.

:goodposting: As I've said, I could deal with everything because of what he brings to the field but when he pulled that contract crap 2 days after the season considering his existing deal it was the final straw. I do agree that waiting this long to move him seems on the surface to be asset mismanagement but perhaps they've tried to reach out to him with poor results.

You think Green Bay, Dallas, Chicago and Detroit all pass on him?

I have no idea who will take Manziel. If he's there, does Philly? Of all the teams you listed, Philly seems to be the least set at QB (at least in terms of long-term contract obligations).

I have no idea who will take Manziel. If he's there, does Philly? Of all the teams you listed, Philly seems to be the least set at QB (at least in terms of long-term contract obligations).
I think Manziel going to Philly would be amazing... Foles has shown he can be a great QB even in Chip's system but a mobile guy like Manziel could likely be even better.

To play devils advocate here, could the Eagles include Foles in a trade to a QB needy team to move up and get Manziel? That would be spicy.

So I was looking at this mock draft on drafttek.com and it has Johnny Manziel dropping to Philly at #22.

The chances of us taking Manziel are 0% IMO. I think they'll consider him in round 3 if he were still on the board.

I think Chip would think long and hard if Manziel was there at 22. Chip tried to recruit him back in the day so I know he did his homework on him. IMO though, they have a lot more holes than QB, so I would got DEF or WR (assuming DeSean is gone) in the first. I like the top S and CB's in this draft a lot, especially Dennard and Pryor.

Since Manziel left High School how many QB's would you think fit that description?
