** Official 2014 Philadelphia Eagles Thread ** (2 Viewers)

Any chance the douchey looking frat boy guy with the hot wife comes to Philly?

I surely hope not....
Cutler.Any chance the Eagles trade up for Winston or Marriota?
.00001%
They're not going for Cutler, Winston, or Mariota. I wouldn't mind Hundley maybe. Not sure what QBs will be available in the draft yet though.
Hundley if he's there in the 4th. But he'll probably go in the first. This team needs corners before quarterback.

Good points being made in this podcast. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-podcasts/0ap3000000448433/Coaches-Show-Grading-Chip-Kelly-in-the-NFL

Andy and Chip are very unique in their approach to the game. There is just no way that Chip is anywhere close to having the players he needs. Prior to the Green Bay game I had very high expectations for the Eagles. It was a let down but I honestly can't blame anyone for our season. Disappointing? Yes, but it really just shows that what Chip is doing works and we still have work to do.
He's a good coach but let's not sugar coat it. He got outcoahed 3 straight games. Two games he arguably had even or superior talent. This is the worst span he's had in his short time here. He's well deserved of the criticism for all his decisions when he falls that hard after being 9-3. Lord knows we'd be praising him if he won. I'm still happy he's our coach but this 3 game stretch showed a lot of flaws in his overall coaching philosophy not necessarily his offense scheme.

My high school football coach always said, "offense fills the stadium seats, defense wins championships."

And to an extent I agree. Our secondary is awful, and a lot of times the D line & LBs bailed them out.

Are there any major DB prospects in the upcoming draft class?

I think this is only partially true. I agree that he got outcoached in spots but not entire games. We came up short in these games not solely because of Chip IMO. The lack of talent in Sanchez is what did us in. People will dump on Chip more than he deserves. You don't win many games in this league with your back-up QB. Even as well as Arizona did early their success with the back-up is running out as well.

None that are major but that's not a bad thing. Top corners would go in the top 10. The highest rated corners right now are falling into the late teens and 20s according to experts. So that should bode well for us landing one.

Out-coached in spots maybe but he mostly got out-QB'ed for 3 straight games (imagine Chip w/ Rodgers, Romo or Wilson).

I think we still give Foles all next year and go from there. In a league where Flacco has a starting job locked down, I'm not throwing in the towel on Foles so quickly.

I agree but continually putting Sanchez in a position to make mistakes (I.e. throwing 50 times with him) is not smart.

"We won time of possession." WTF!? Now this matters? Chip's response after being questioned about his sports science.
You missed the sarcasm I think
I think Kwai doesnt get much at all about coach speak
Whatever man. I think Chip got way too hot under the collar. It's all fun and games being witty until the team loses. If you guys are fine with the bunker mentality then God bless ya. I was put off by what I saw and I don't think that reporter was out of line. It took Ried until year 13 to show he was irritated up there. The Mickey Miss "You're very bold."comment.We can agree to disagree. I want the best for the team and I'm hopefule but nowhere near as hopeful as I was last year.

You are right, but it's also not Chip's fault that Sanchez can't even complete a 5-yard pass to an open Ertz on a perfectly designed rollout down by the end zone.

Would love Waynes, but might have to move up to get him. Total chip kelly size player, and can match up with Dez/ODB for years to come.

Besides that, maybe Peters if we want to take the character risk, or one of the FSU guys.

One thing that is really disappointing about this year is that I was hoping we would get a full season to watch Foles. He was really cut short this year just when the offensive line was starting to come together. That said, I can't believe some of the comments I have heard on national ESPN radio regarding the Eagles and our QB situation. It's as if Chip was counting on turning Sanchez's career around and now the Eagles have no idea where to turn. I heard Joe Theismann (I know) on one of the shows today and he lumped the Eagles in with teams that are unsettled at the QB position.

Hello out there??? I put this together myself, so I might have something wrong, but you get the point. Eagles under Chip when Foles starts and finishes the game over the last 2 years (including the playoff game) = 13-4

Against teams that finished at or below .500 = 10-2

Losses @ Vikings in 2013 and @ SF in 2014. The Vikings loss was a bad one. SF is a 'good' bad team. Either way, both on the road. I think we all would take this kind of record moving forward.

Against teams that finished over .500 = 3-2

Wins

2013 - @GB (no Rodgers and they were barely over .500 so this isn't as impressive as it sounds)

2013 - AZ (good home win against a good team)

2014 - @IND on Monday night (Foles leads game tying drive starting at 5:00 and game winning FG drive starting at 2:00)

Losses

2013 - NO playoff game (Foles leaves field after TD drive to get the lead, never touches ball again)

2014 - @AZ (Foles leads FG drive to take the lead at 2:00. Then, after the defense blows it, he gets team to the AZ 16 after starting at his own 20 with 1:21 remaining)

I really don't know if Foles is the answer or not. The above is just too small of a sample size. However, even in the 2 losses Foles had the team in position to win. I can't seem to figure out how anyone doesn't think that the Eagles have their QB for at least next year and that there is still great reason for optimism about the position.

The Eagles have their starter. Fix the other stuff on the team. Draft a QB to groom as a backup.

Whole-heartedly agree with this. I was disappointed in Foles' start to this season, but that O-line was terrible over the first 6 games and he still led the team to wins.

Sanchez had a couple of decent games in relief, but the truth is he's a quality backup but a poor, low end starter. Too many poor decisions and missed throws. Sanchez was missing throws to wide open receivers all too often.

I wanted Sanchez as a backup because I figured he'd be good for 2-4 games in relief and wouldn't lose you a season. He managed that. It was the extra 4-6 games that cost us.

Five Eagles were selected to this year’s Pro Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. They are: Jason Peters, LeSean McCoy, Connor Barwin, Jason Kelce and Darren Sproles for his contributions on special teams.

Cody Parkey, Evan Mathis, Chris Maragos, Jeremy Maclin and Fletcher Cox were named alternates.

I'm not so sure about this. Only because of the offensive system Chip runs. If this was Reid's offense? Yea absolutely we don't need a QB. But we seen it this year, year 2 of Chip's offense being known teams were able to shut it down to an extent. With the right fit QB, it adds an entirely new option. That's why I'm all in for Marriotta. It won't happen, but that's what I would do.

Mccoy? Interesting.

Everyone still calling for a pro bowl running back to be cut this offseason?

Sure and we'll resign Fletcher and roll out Nate Allen again for the foreseeable future. Along with adding whatever retread at OLB, ILB and OG over the next 3 years. But hey, Mariota!

I'm sure there are quite a few better options on this list we can use some of our salary cap space on.

Trade/release him to the Redskins(see Djax). Ship Sproles and his contract. Sign Spiller and Helu. Draft a back in the 4th. Problem solved for half the price.

Ideally, we restructure McCoys contract to something more cap-friendly. Sproles is fine, imo. At the current rate - McCoy isn't worth it. Would love to see him stay and Eagle though. Same with Cole, to be honest - he's had some great years here, would love him to stay an Eagle, but he's gotta come down to close to a vet minimum deal. If Houston let's Kareem Jackson walk, is he someone we bring in? We love Houston defensive players, but I don't know if they'll let him walk, or if he's worth bringing in.

Thinking Maxwell out of SEA would be a FA target to pair with a top CB draft pick.

@Mfranknfl: CB Bradley Fletcher won't play today, or likely again, for #Eagles; plus, will we see Marcus Smith, Jaylen Watkins? http://t.co/2w23mOSca9

@ZBerm: Something else to watch: L. McCoy's taken some criticism this season, but he's 90 yards shy of the second-best rushing total of his career

@LesBowen: Eagles start Carroll for Fletcher in finale http://t.co/41G5nINDw5 via @phillysport

What an F****ing joke of a game !!!

The Giants kicked the living #### out of the eagles all day long and the refs just gave absolutely everything to the Eagles.

Beckham abused the eagles despite that fact that refs let them have their way with him.

Should've been about 40 to 20 Giants if this game was called fairly

@GeoffMosherCSN: LeSean McCoy candid about his future/contract. Supposed to make $9.75M in 2015 base. He sounded uncertain if he'd be back under that deal.

@GeoffMosherCSN: Shady: "I'm sure we can work something out and hopefully everything does work out. At the end of the day, man, it is a business."

If you were to tell me 2 years ago, after a 4-12 season, that Chip would lead us to back to back 10-6 season and the last one would be with Mark Sanchez playing 8 games I would be happy.

We also set a record for scoring this season too I believe.

@ZBerm: Lurie: "I like to surround myself with not yes men, but with strong opinionated people that are really dedicated to making us really good."

@Tim_McManus: On Foles, Lurie deferred to coaches but noted 14-4 record, quality of character, etc. "Well just have to see but thats pretty unusual.

Sounds like a guy who knows he didn't play his best but this year but also knows how good this scheme is. I don't think you can justify 10/11 million for Shady next year, but 6 million? That's fine.

In an obvious down year, Shady still managed 1220 yds on 295 carries. Good enough fpr 5th in rushing. He's not going to make $11mil next year but I think both sides realize the advantages of staying together in this offense.

I hope they're really dedicated to getting a franchise QB or a championship caliber defense.
Franchise QB or elite Qb? Because Donovan was a franchise Qb. Romo is a franchise Qb. Rivers is a franchise QB.

Elite QBs don't come by very often however. Rodgers, Brees, Peyton, Luck. Even then its not like they've won all the super bowls the last 15 years.

Draft a Corner in the first. Draft a safety in the second. Sign a decent free agent corner. Watkins has a good off season. Secondary is light years better then.
