It's a question of culture and history. Baseball has over a century, soccer has essentially 18 years (MLS).I came into a thread and gave a very real answer:Because he is ignorant. I don't like ignorance. I could care less whether he likes the sport or not just have a modicum of intelligence. Why do you care? Please vote to shut this guy uphttp://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=707484

Then I was attacked... Cry a little? Big tough guy soccer fan!
I've mentioned it before ad nauseum, but my generation (mid 40s) were the first to grow up en masse playing soccer... and that was without a single thought of doing it professionally since that wasn't an option. Our parents knew nothing about the sport, but we played it anyways. Now my generation's kids get knowledgable parents AND a professional league to watch live plus the infinite leagues to watch on TV (none of which was available in my youth).
And for kids, it's a sport where everybody's a part of the action due to the fluidity of how the team works on the field.
Baseball was my main sport until I started playing soccer seriously. It's the only sport more boring to play (unless you're pitching or hitting) than to watch. And I use the word "sport" loosely- basically, as long as you've got good hand-eye, you're good to go. Pretty similar to bowling or darts in terms of skill-sets. Ok, yeah- occasionally you have to run a few yards, so that differentiates it from those others.
