In my World Cup random team selection I did with 3 other friends:

Argentina, Italy, Uruguay, USA, Mexico, South Korea, Iran, and Algeria.

Some real stinkers in there, but at least I got Argentina.

Any realistic shot for Italy or Uruguay?

Of winning the World Cup? Not IMO. Of making a semi-final or even a finals run? Sure. Group D is helped by drawing Group C in the knockout rounds. Group C has some good teams (Colombia and Ivory Coast), but no monsters.

World Cup Smartphone apps: what are you using?

I am looking for suggestions or preference for the soccer apps that you will be using during the World Cup. Maybe even your experience in using any of the ones listed below?

My preferred soccer app is OneFootball (not the Brasil one), but I do like FutMob for some things so I think I will be using both of them (at least at first). I do have the paid version of FutMob so I have been using them more and more lately (hello USLPro), but OneFootball is easily still my preference. I believe that each also provides some in-game audio for the World Cup. The MLS Matchday app looks like they will have full WC coverage as well... but I do not think I will be using that app for WC coverage as I barely use it for MLS coverage.

I have the TuneIn Radio app that I will use if I am in the car while a game is on, I am pretty sure they carry the BBC broadcast of the games by way of TalkSport. All of the games are also supposed to be available on the ESPN Radio app, but I am not really a big ESPN fan so I do not have it installed...

That being said, I did install the WatchESPN app so i could watch games when there is no TV available, or use the pitch view as a second screen on my tablet. I have not had a whole bunch of luck with that app so far for live events (especially with ChromeCast), and am hoping it is just my crappy home wifi that was the issue.

Has anyone looked into the FIFA app? Is there anything there worth checking out? Am I overlooking anything obvious? What else is out there that I should be aware of?

P.S. I usually leave a LiveScore.com window open on my desktop while games are in progress, but I am open to a better suggestion there too.

I have hte US making it out... at the expense of Germany. I see Portugal making some noise, especially if Mr Abs is healthy. But they're deeper than most people are giving them credit for.

That first game should be interesting - I am hoping one team wins, rather than a draw. But either way, I think Germany will be ripe for an upset in game 3.

That was about it. Then came 1990. The USA had qualified for the World Cup for the first time in my life, and I was 26!

Not just soccer on TV, but the World Cup. It was amazing and I was hooked.

Because of my heritage I’ve always been fascinated by everything German and here was Germany actually winning this amazing event. I was hooked.
Germany had this player named Klinsmann that was the same age as me and he was fun to watch and I was a fan. When the internet came around I actually searched for this guy to learn more about him. I learned he was playing this great game in something called the Bundesliga in Germany and for some club in Munich called Bayern München. I was now a fan. And I’m still here.

Because of 1990 I’ve coached my kids in rec soccer, my kids have played high school soccer and I even play adult ball. Because of 1990 I have the Nationalmannschaft, the Bundesliga and of course Bayern to follow. I’ve travelled to Chicago to see Bayern play, and made a trip to Orlando to catch an Olympic match (Saudi Arabia v Spain.)

Yup, I remember being like 12 years old and my friend (who was born in Italy) was going on about the World Cup and how big it was and I literally didn't have the first clue. Even after the conversation, really. Was a little more aware, maybe watched the final in '86 but didn't really get into until the USA was awarded the World Cup and then qualified in '90.

I have access to an espn account - but someone posted a link above to other sources - univision (maybe?) is streaming the group and first round at no charge.

Any recommendations for streaming Radio on my desktop at work?

I don't want to clog our bandwidth with live video, but radio would be ok... wouldn't it?

The MLS Matchday app looks like they will have full WC coverage as well... but I do not think I will be using that app for WC coverage as I barely use it for MLS coverage.

I have the TuneIn Radio app that I will use if I am in the car while a game is on, I am pretty sure they carry the BBC broadcast of the games by way of TalkSport. All of the games are also supposed to be available on the ESPN Radio app, but I am not really a big ESPN fan so I do not have it installed...

That being said, I did install the WatchESPN app so i could watch games when there is no TV available, or use the pitch view as a second screen on my tablet. I have not had a whole bunch of luck with that app so far for live events (especially with ChromeCast), and am hoping it is just my crappy home wifi that was the issue.

Has anyone looked into the FIFA app? Is there anything there worth checking out? Am I overlooking anything obvious? What else is out there that I should be aware of?

P.S. I usually leave a LiveScore.com window open on my desktop while games are in progress, but I am open to a better suggestion there too.

Any recommendations for streaming Radio on my desktop at work?

I don't want to clog our bandwidth with live video, but radio would be ok... wouldn't it?
