Top-3 for Golden Ball will probably be Messi, Mueller, Robben - but I don't think Messi has stood out - albeit because teams are focused on shutting him down, Colombia need to go further for Hames to get more recognition, but he deserves some (and it will like come via a transfer and new contract...)
He will cost Real Madrid a pretty penny (over $100m), but they will snag him. He went to Monaco last offseason for over $60m. Not a bad piece of business for Monaco...

It's kind of silly they name 10. DiMaria? May as well name David Luiz and Nigel DeJong, they both played pretty well.

From Soccer America

[sOCCER ON THE AIR] Even with the elimination of the USA after the round of 16, interest in the 2014 World Cup remains high. ESPN and Univision both attracted their two most-viewed World Cup semifinal audiences ever with Argentina-Netherlands (6.8 million viewers on ESPN and 5.4 million on Univision) and Brazil-Germany (6.6 million viewers on ESPN and 5.8 million viewers on Univision).

The Netherlands-Argentina match also ranks as the highest-rated and most-viewed World Cup match on ESPN or ESPN2 not involving the USA.

Average viewers for the first 62 matches on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC are up 43 percent vs. 2010 and up 108 percent vs. 2006. Average viewers on Univision are up 38 percent.

ESPN/ESPN2/ABC Average Audiences:

2014: 4,289,000 viewers | 2.7 rating

2010: 2,989,000 viewers | 1.9 rating

2006: 2,060,000 viewers | 1.4 rating

Through 62 matches.

ESPN/ESPN2/ABC Top Markets:

Washington, DC (4.7)

New York (4.4)

San Francisco (4.2)

Los Angeles (3.8)

San Diego (3.7)

Hartford/New Haven (3.7)

Miami/Ft. Lauderdale (3.6)

Orlando (3.6)

Richmond/Petersburg (3.4)

West Palm Beach (3.4)

Through 62 matches.

Silva with a little SEC-esque statement about how Brazilians will be OK with Argentina winning the Cup, because at least it would reside in South America.

Not sure if this was discussed, but I just saw the replay of the Vlaar penalty - crazy how close that came from almost rolling in after the kick was saved
Still think he tapped it with his shoulder, but it's not clear on the replay whether he touched it or not.

Found this, but both accompanying vids have been taken down:

However... the story may not end there, because seen from another angle it appears Vlaar may have touched the ball after Romero, brushing it with his shoulder and sending it back towards the goal.
As you can see, although Vlaar tries to drop his shoulder to avoid making contact with the ball, it does get deflected off his shoulder.

I think the replays were pretty inconclusive if he actually touched the ball - telling though that the ref was not really watching the path of the ball as it rolled to the goal. Controversy would have been awesome if it had rolled in.

I have almost no interest in this 3rd place game today.

What little interest I might have had evaporated when I read LVG diatribe against the 3rd place game saying that no one wants this game.

The commentators here in Brazil are criticizing the Brazilian positioning, saying the players are too far away from each other on O and from the Dutch on D.

An Oscar tripped over his own legs

Yeah, they are very static on offense and are just watching the teammate with the ball

Is it standard procedure in brazil for only the back four to play defense? Seems like most of the goals against them have been with no midfielders in sight.
