Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (3 Viewers)

It seems like a 3 man race to me. Cruz, Trump and Rubio. It will be interesting to see if the establishment lines up behind Rubio - or rather, if any of the other candidates step aside. Not holding my breath.
I think it will be Rubio.
Me too. But neither of the other two would shock me.
Rubio will be President some day
Providing hope for young robots everywhere.
Like the hope and change with got from Obama?

Nate Silver ‏@NateSilver538Iowa was not just some random setback for Trump. It was the first time people actually voted.
That's some heavy duty commentary right there folks.
Especially from the guy who said Trump had zero chance to win the nomination and published a tome on all the reasons Trump was nothing to be concerned about.
Nate Silver deals with probability projections, so he didn't say and would never say that Trump had "zero chance" to win the nomination. He thought it was rather unlikely and he still may turn out to be right (although I doubt it). Anyway, let's see how this plays out.
Dork needs to get wedgied by Trump.

By wedgie...do you mean have Trump whine about him on Twitter?

Our country has done very well for itself the past seven years. (especially considering the preceding eight) ;)

News alert - for the first time ever a Latino has won a US presidential primary.

And he's a Republican.

Has anyone heard this mentioned on tv once?

Rubio came in 3rd.
 Kind of along the line I was thinking.
Ha this cracks me up, Cruz is as Latino as Obama is African American, no?
More like Cruz is as Latino as Obama is Kenyan.
Okaaayyyy... Cruz's dad was Cuban, Obama's dad was Kenyan. Cruz is Hispanic, Obama is AA.

Lawrence O'Donnell just played the Arnie Vinick ethanol scene from the The West Wing and praised Ted Cruz for coming out against ethanol. And I agree with him. Despite my distaste for nearly everything about Cruz, he showed great courage for defying the conventional wisdom from both sides of the aisle- he was against more ethanol spending and he won. As O'Donnell suggests, perhaps this will allow future Presidential candidates to buck the powers that be. Ethanol is wasteful, should no longer be funded, and politicians have known this for years.

So thank you Ted Cruz, and you deserve credit for this.

Wait what? Didn't he just totally take a dive into ethanopandering?

No. At least that's not what O'Donnell said and that's not my understanding. He called for an end to subsidies.

During a bus tour stop in Sioux Center, Iowa last night, Senator Ted Cruz expressed support for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) through 2022.
Responding to a question from an ethanol investor from Iowa about whether he would allow the landmark energy program to continue through its current expiration in 2022, Sen. Cruz responded by expressing support for the RFS through 2022.

Well that's disappointing. I could have sworn I heard him call for an end to it, and O'Donnell said the same thing. Maybe we're missing something?

LOD is referring to Cruz's longstanding arguments against ethanol subsidies....... before he got to Iowa. It's a reflection on LOD's reportorial skills or lack thereof that he doesn't bother to research this aspect or tell his viewers about this.

Of course LOD complaining about subsidies at all is maybe more hypocritical than Cruz's hillaryesque pandering, which in truth probably helped bump him up at the end.

It also shows a weakness of Trump's, because in the end his lack of positions do matter. People do want to hear positions, even if they're being lied to, they want to know where politicians stand on things that matter to them.

Trump was fun and interesting but he is done. Cruz is what the conservatives want but Rubio will win the nomination because he is the only one of the three that will beat Clinton.

Rubio will be the Republican candidate.

Trump's back in the game, it seems he did not lose Iowa

I'll let his twitter explain (i put the oldest tweets first to make it easier to read):

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump 2h2 hours ago
Ted Cruz didn't win Iowa, he stole it. That is why all of the polls were so wrong and why he got far more votes than anticipated. Bad!

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump 2h2 hours ago
During primetime of the Iowa Caucus, Cruz put out a release that @RealBenCarson was quitting the race, and to caucus (or vote) for Cruz.

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump 2h2 hours ago
Many people voted for Cruz over Carson because of this Cruz fraud. Also, Cruz sent out a VOTER VIOLATION certificate to thousands of voters.

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump 2h2 hours ago
The Voter Violation certificate gave poor marks to the unsuspecting voter(grade of F) and told them to clear it up by voting for Cruz. Fraud

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump 1h1 hour ago
And finally, Cruz strongly told thousands of caucusgoers (voters) that Trump was strongly in favor of ObamaCare and "choice" - a total lie!

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump 1h1 hour ago
Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified.

Rubio needs to pull away with positivity and class. Let the slime ball and egomaniac debate the finer points of election tactics. Unite the base and show yourself a grownup and this is yours big ears.

It's funny, I have zero idea what platforms Rubio has other than he's not Trump or Cruz.
Aside from some hits by cruz on immigration and Jeb whining about the kid jumping in front of him, there hasn't been much.

Rubio will get schlonged from all comers now...especially the other establishment track candidates who realize that NH is their last shot to remain viable.

If "a politician lied to voters" were grounds to redo an election, we'd still be voting on 1776 today.

ETA: I do enjoy how Trump ends every tweet with something like "Bad!" or "Sad!", just in case his followers aren't sure how they ought to feel.

Does Kasich have any shot here to get some traction?
Yeah...I think he needs to place third in NH though...and even if he does there is a risk that if Rubio finishes 2nd that Big Mo' will be on his side given the media's love for him.
