Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (3 Viewers)

Actually Trump seems very sincere on why he changed to pro-life

"One thing about me, I'm a very honorable guy. I'm pro-life, but I changed my view a number of years ago. One of the primary reasons I changed [was] a friend of mine's wife was pregnant, and he didn't really want the baby. He was crying as he was telling me the story. He ends up having the baby and the baby is the apple of his eye. It's the greatest thing that's ever happened to him. And you know here's a baby that wasn't going to be let into life. And I heard this, and some other stories, and I am pro-life."
you can't be this......oh wait.
Yes we know, everyone that isn't for who you like is either stupid or racist. Move along now little boy, you provide nothing.
one of us thinks his "epiphany" is coincidental with his decision to run for the GOP nomination.

Just saw the Chris Wallace interview with Fiorina from the weekend. She's a very solid candidate. I say this as an HP employee. I'm very concerned.
All you need to know about her, besides all of her failures is in this single quote.

"There is no job that is America's God-given right anymore," said Carly Fiorina, chairman of Palo Alto information technology giant Hewlett Packard."

She doesn't want to make America great again like Mr. Trump, she wants to make America H1B1 again.
She's a worthless POS.

All this name calling of these Republican candidates has me very excited to call Hillary stupid #### she is and Biden the ignorant ####in ####### he is.

Trump said he wants to raise taxes, is pro-choice, and isn't a bible thumper. He is more moderate than other Republicans in the field because most of them are lunatics.
Correct. How is this confusing to anyone.
It's only confusing if you're looking solely at his "position" on illegal immigration. Of one isn't fully on board with opening up the floodgates, they are immediately thrown in Tim's "conservative" bucket. The problem is, you aren't up to date on the Timtionary definitions.

Can we end the war on women in this thread. Your misogyny is not welcome here.

Wish we could get a R candidate that would toe the line and not fold during the primary season into religious and personal freedom cramping bull####. There's some really smart people on the R side of things that would make great Presidents if they didn't have to pander to the religious side of the party. It's a shame, we'll probably never see one of those really smart Repubs become President.
The crazies need to split into a new party.

Exactly. I am sure millions of Democrats who voted for Obama would be shocked to learn that they are conservatives.

The thing that impresses me most is how she takes one of her biggest negatives - all the layoffs at HP - and turns it into an asset "HP was a big bloated inefficient bureaucracy . . and by the way so is Washington" I'd say that's just about the best possible way one can spin that.

I realize this is a joke but this would be an ideal party for me.

No or little social programs provided by the government.

Keep my taxes at a bare minimum by focusing on spending cuts as opposed to taxing more.

Stop giving a #### what gay people do.

Stop talking about religion or the bible as political stance.

Use the Obama foreign policy (the best foreign policy Prez in my lifetime, IMO) as a good template for staying out of #### across the world.

I guess this already exists and it's called being a libertarian?

Obama has a nuanced foreign policy, but it's not isolationist.

No.

First off, I never called Trump a conservative. I just don't think he's a moderate. He's a populist nativist IMO.

Second, I don't believe that calling for the forced deportation of millions of illegal immigrants is a conservative position. I don't believe the majority of conservatives believe in this, nor do the majority of Americans or independents. It's an extreme position.

Call it whatever you want. I'm sure you're right as I have no political clue...I'm just happy to not have been close to a war in his 8 year term. Whatever he did, nuanced...detente...chickenhawk...#####cat, I don't care - I think he's the greatest of my lifetime.

I agree with you John. Though I think Clinton was pretty good too. He solved Northern Ireland, and came close to solving Israel.

Regarding your desire to eliminate social programs- no way to get there from here. There's no political will for it.

I agree.

From what I've read of you (and it's hard not to know your life story and every thought ;) ), I think you and I are pretty much aligned on politics 100%....other than immigration...not because I necessarily disagree, but because I give zero ####s about the issue.

Being from Wisconsin, no not at all. He would have been a terrible president and I'm shocked he was even given national consideration.

Yes, and he's now the CEO of a pot company.

Johnson, the former Republican governor of New Mexico and the 2012 presidential nominee for the Libertarian Party, has long been an advocate for legalizing marijuana. But now, as the head of a company that plans to market and sell recreational marijuana products, he's quite literally putting his money where his mouth is.

Though not that much money, at least not at first.

"I'm getting paid $1 a year to be president and CEO of this company, but I am getting stock so the only way I make money is if shareholders make money," Johnson said.

The company will make marijuana-based oils that have shown promise in treating people with certain illnesses, like children with epilepsy, Johnson said. It will also market a cough drop-like candy derived from marijuana that provides what Johnson called a pleasant alternative to smoking the drug.

Yep, I agree and why I have voted Libertarian the last several elections. People tell me I'm throwing my vote away but I feel if you vote republican or democrat at this point you are actually throwing your country away.

Really at this point she's the only hope for sanity.

Sounds like he is referring to only illegal immigrants that have committed crimes, not everyone here illegally. He references only 76,000 of them. Of course anything he even proposes now would be an extreme solution that would need to be negotiated to reach an agreement anyways.

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/424446/republicans-and-immigration-ramesh-ponnuru

the gap between Republican politicians and Republican voters on immigration. Gallup just responded to a question I sent the organization for some numbers on this. It turns out that as of January 2015, 49 percent of Republicans want less immigration, 35 percent want immigration kept flat, and 15 percent want higher levels of immigration. There are more Republican presidential candidates representing that 15 percent than that 49 percent.

So, given all that...who should I be supporting? (out of the legitimate contenders)

I think the answer is Hillary, no?
Well, I suppose it depends on how you feel about integrity as a necessary qualification for POTUS...

They did. They're called "Democrats".

Anyone that knows foreign policy knows Obama made a disaster overseas. The nobel panel saw Obama's peace prize as a mistake.

No. A retired NON-VOTING panel secretary said that in a book he wrote for profit.

id rather be able to look myself in the mirror because I voted for someone who I actually wanted to win, rather than for a self-absorbed, xenophobic ######## who thinks that insulting people is campaigning. It will do nothing to "fix" the system. It will make it worse.
:greatposting:Gary 2016!
If the libertarians changed their strategy from that of being purists to being incrementalists, they could catch on...

Can we end the war on women in this thread. Your misogyny is not welcome here.
The only way I even think about voting for her is if we can confirm she has gone through menopause.

John, I appreciate the libertarian view as much as the next guy... but Obamas foreign policy is going to come back to haunt us. The middle east is currently being taken over by ISIS, due in large part because we prematurely moved forces out. Russia is taking over it's neighbors and building political capital by providing terrorist nations with weapons and Iran just closed a nuke deal that is a dream come true for them.

As the worlds super power we have maintained relative peace for decades. It's already getting scary and if the next administration follows course it will get worse. We have some great advantages being the leader of the world but with it comes responsibility. One of the ways we have provided leadership was through a strong military that deterred conflict. Refusing this responsibility is going to have massive negative consequences down the road.
