Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (2 Viewers)

So it seems that everybody in here save for a few of the trump people have Kasich as the top guy (or in the top 3). So why is he polling so poorly?
He's still relatively unknown to the general public. The more mainstream media coverage he gets, the more his numbers will rise. He's even better in interviews than in the debates.
And he is getting basically zero main stream media coverage. This goes to the point of my earlier post.

To people defending Jeb: If 9/11 happened on Obama's watch, would you say Obama kept America safe?
My guess is that if you were to take a poll of republican voters, at least 10% would say 9/11 was on either Clinton's or Obama's watch.
let's look at Clinton's watch

WTC bombed in 1993

Khobar Towers bombed

embassies bombed

Bin Laden offered up for extradition, but Clinton refused

90% of planning for 9/11 occurred

Legal wall put up to prevent sharing of intelligence between agencies

yeah, nice job....
And USS Cole attack. Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility and Clinton did nothing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Cole_bombing
The non response to the Cole directly lead to 9-11. Terrorists crave attention and when they don't get it, they an something bigger, which they did.
:lmao:
I have no idea what is funny about that in any way. Perhaps you just need to educate yourself.

Memorial Day marks ties between USS Cole attack and 9/11
The terror organization's success against the Cole "galvanized al Qaeda's recruitment efforts," while the failure of the United States to retaliate against group leaders in Afghanistan motivated Osama bin Laden to "launch something bigger," said the 9/11 Commission Report.
And maybe some futher background on the topic may enlighten you.

us-failure-retaliate-uss-cole-attack-rankled-then-now

Inquiry Into Attack on the Cole in 2000 Missed 9/11 CluesNot saying it is all Clinton's lack of response, Bush had chances months prior to also respond. But at that time the wheels were well in motion.

I just want one of the few non insane people to get the nomination so that we don't have a 50% chance of disaster.
define insane in this case
Pretty solid assessment if the insanity of this crew here.

Particularly enjoyed this:

Here are some of the ideas that received a hearing last night, from the 11 people vying for one of two available nominations to the highest and most powerful elected office in the history of the earth:

  • Abolishing the 14th Amendment
  • Deporting people born in the United States because their parents were not born in the United States
  • Making the personal beliefs of county officials the highest law of the land
  • Building an army of drones to patrol a militarized wall along the entire length of the U.S.-Mexico border
  • Deporting thousands of people per day until the United States is entirely emptied of non-citizens
  • Waging war in Syria
  • Waging war in Iran
  • Directing the moderators’ questions to Hillary Clinton, who was not present and who is not seeking the Republican presidential nomination
That these proposals all are implausible, irresponsible, or inconsistent with the candidates’ unanimously shared goal of drastically lowering all taxes or flatly bonkers or all of the above mostly went unmentioned, by the moderators and by the candidates themselves. Why bother? Such mincing concerns as these do not adhere to lunatic fantasies; making any of this #### work is a second-order delusion, after the one in which we live in the kind of place in which there’s any chance at all that any of these people can or would or even intends to try to enact a single ####### one of them.
And this:

Hell, for that matter, a single political party can’t even represent both the Huckabee and Paul groups. The mere effort has made an incoherent disaster of the GOP and created an opening for a reality TV star whose campaign pitch is his track record of withdrawing enormous personal profits from failed business investments to emerge as the choice of millions upon millions of voting-age Americans. Who consider themselves conservative! I will vote for Donald Trump; I trust him to become richer even if the United States implodes like one of his casinos, and that is what I, a “conservative,” look for in a statesperson.

Let’s do away with this ####. Many millions of Americans want their next president to be Carly Fiorina—an inept, failed CEO with no experience of public service who spent last night threatening to make war on half the ####### planet. She was like the eighth most irresponsible psychopath on the stage, and the rest of them, down to the least of them, all represent vast constituencies

As much as I hate the above author and hope that either his cheek chokes on his tongue or the Democrat fellating him...never mind, he does make a valid point about Huckabee and Paul.

But a person, like this writer, who is likely a member of (or supports electorally) a party that supports Debbie Wasserman Schultz and PACs like NOW while giving credence and a seat at the table to inner-city, white conservative cultural pro-life Catholics should probably not make too fine or bold of a point about incongruity within a party platform. Doing this, of course, ignores any sort of political nuance or thought about electoral politics as a whole, and strikes me as a screed. Which, considering it's Deadspin/Gawker, comes as no surprise.

Clinton is losing to every Republican polling in the top five in Florida, according to Public Policy Polling and as reported by Real Clear Politics.

Here's an honest review. That many people on a stage is a bad idea and doesn't benefit any of them. It was a couple hours of diarrhea of the mouth and we didn't really learn anything new. The "lefty hater jerk-off" was justified based on what was being presented over the airwaves. Can't #### on two pieces of bread and call it anything but a #### sandwich.
Fair enough. Since I wasn't watching I just assumed it was the usual "hate anything right of center" crowd taking potshots.
Fiorina made the most gains. She was sharp and composed, even though I disagree with just about everything about herTrump was his usual Trump-self, and I thought he was successful

Carson put everyone to sleep. Surprised Trump didn't bash him for being low energy, instead gave him an awkward ###-pat

Cruz was creepy as a mother ####er

Rubio was one of the more reasonable voices, but was having trouble formulating his speech. Came off as just giving canned responses.

Christie was his usual self. Did nothing to stand out, but I thought he was okay

Huckabee had about 2 minutes of time to speak and packed about 5 minutes of douchebaggery into it.

Paul came across as a reasonable candidate to me, but didn't get much speaking time and I don't know how conservatives would be on board with his narrative

Kasich came across as far too normal amid the circus. If I could get on board with anyone in this group it's him.

Walker was overly generic and got crushed

Bush seemed totally lost and out of his element. Sweat was pouring down his face like Ewing at the free throw line.

If I am forgetting any candidate, forgive me as there were waaaay too many. My favorite moment was Trump telling Paul in the first 5 minutes that he is 1% in the polls and just needs to GTFO
Vehemently disagree with this analysis. Walker was by far the sweatiest candidate.

OK, other than that, I guess I don't disagree.
It's the fine Wisconsin cheddar that he is made of. Ever leave cheese out for a few hours in the heat and see what happens? Sweats like that.
Oh, so gross!

Spot-on analysis, though. The only quibble I'd have is regarding Bush. Like Sweet J, I find myself more and more attracted to him as a candidate. I guess what people see as "boring" I am seeing as "adult," compared to the others. I'm almost seeing him as cerebral in comparison.

WARNING: DIE-HARD, FAR-LEFT LIBERAL OPINION BELOW

Despite my being generally left of possibly anyone on this board, I'm open to someone in this R group based in my extreme distaste for the likely D nominee. I've actually voted for an R presidential candidate before. My interest lies primarily in Kasich or Bush at this point. I'd like Rubio were it not for his wacky abortion stance and his hawkish foreign policy; I also don't agree with his Cuba stance but that's a more minor issue. Christie was better than I expected last night, but I know too many people in NJ who despise him based on more info than I have about him.

I find myself agreeing with Paul to an alarming extent--particularly on drug policy and foreign policy, and I took a great amount of glee in his standing up to McConnell a few months ago on the Patriot Act extension--but damn those views could use a better spokesperson who isn't so smarmy and self-absorbed. On an unimportant note, that boy needs a Keratin treatment.

The rest are just non-starters.
:goodposting:

Especially the bolded
:goodposting: :goodposting:

Especially the bolded. Paul was also on the Constitutionally correct side during the 1st debate vs. Christie.

It appears that the phrase "Pretty solid assessment" has lost all meaning now  While there is plenty to bag on the GOP for, that opinion piece is far from "Pretty solid assessment".
Man, I can't believe you saw through my attempt to pass that off as a reasoned and balanced review of the GOP candidates!

But here's the thing- every single fact on which that opinion piece relies is 100% true. All of those ideas were put forward by one or more candidates. Not once did anyone mention that those ideas are totally insane and irresponsible and for the most part also very costly. Carly Fiorina really is an inept failed CEO with no experience in public service who threatened a good portion of the planet with war during the debate (OK, maybe not half of the planet, that was a bit of an exaggeration). And she really was only like the 8th craziest person on that stage. Donald Trump really is a reality TV star whose campaign pitch is essentially his track record of withdrawing personal profits from failed business investments. It's true, all of it. You may not think the assessment is solid (of course it isn't), but the basis sure is.

Vaccines and autism is an embarrassment to any candidate that brings it up as a causal correlation. Saying that the gov't shouldn't be granted the right to compel vaccination is another topic entirely, and that gets inherently political and opinion-based. And, of course, that's Trump.

Other than that, the positions that follow that are debatable at the least.

No they're not. The Planned Parenthood thing is a total lie. It was one of several absurd lies that Carly Fiorina told the other night.

Yes, the Planned Parenthood harvesting and sale of organs and tissue from aborted fetuses and war in the Middle East are now factually inaccurate statements that should be shut down and labelled as "factual" inaccuracies. Got it.

No, we can keep up how wrong you'll be for a while. Religious conscience may indeed carve out exceptions to certain Supreme Court rulings. Also, many people have challenged the S. Ct.'s legitimacy, not the least of whom was FDR

Marijuana may indeed introduce people to criminal elements and induce people toward behaviors and actions because of that criminal element that surrounds the dealing of illegal drugs

Biblical and voluntary charities may have indeed at one point in our nation's history provided the best charity and most comprehensive safety net that existed in our country, using small localities and communities to provide the indigent with health and medical care given the social capital structures in place

Relax :lmao:

Take a deep breath. It'll be ok.

To the bold, what exactly do you expect under those circumstances? When you have 11 people vying for airtime, do you expect them to waste their limited amount of time focused on someone else or ignoring what the others said and shouting their positions instead. The whole thing is a joke IMO. There's very little useful information that we can gleen from any of these goat rodeos. They are all clawing for time and throwing out red meat is the best way to get more time. Do they actually believe what they are saying? I have no idea, but it's providing all kinds of entertainment.

Plenty of basis for First Amendment religious exemptions within the Supreme Court's own rulings.

The marijuana one is one that reasonable people can disagree on, but has become a shibboleth I'm not willing to count as "factual"

Certainly, de Tocqueville and those that studied social capital in the nineteenth century would disagree with the notion of tax policy vs. churches, as would at least some prominent students of philanthropy and giving

I simply don't think calling most any policy decision a "fact" does the premise of the arguments any justice for either side.

To wit:

Fact: Most rocks are hard

Not fact: Socialism or derivations of socialism cannot work

Fact: Caffeinated coffee has caffeine

Not fact: The Supreme Court has always been considered the unalterable law of the land by anybody but the lunatic fringe

Fact: Tax policy increases government revenues by the very existence of a compulsory tax except in extreme premise-questioning scenarios

Not fact: Private, religious charitable giving done at local levels cannot possibly compare to current tax policy and never has done so in American culture

But his fans will give him a pass, figuring he'll look into it more once he's elected. Bulletproof. But I think we'll see him start to come back to the pack a bit after this last debate.

Vaccines cause autism

Planned Parenthood feasts on the organs of babies

More war in the Middle East is a good idea
Vaccines and autism is an embarrassment to any candidate that brings it up as a causal correlation. Saying that the gov't shouldn't be granted the right to compel vaccination is another topic entirely, and that gets inherently political and opinion-based. And, of course, that's Trump.

Other than that, the positions that follow that are debatable at the least.
No they're not. The Planned Parenthood thing is a total lie. It was one of several absurd lies that Carly Fiorina told the other night.
:lmao: Most certainly not a lie. You're going to be one of the last lunatics defending this. Enjoy.
Is there a video from PP showing what Fiorina said she saw?

So, has this thread come back to normalcy talking about the GOP and the debate? Unfortunately I was unable to see the debate last night and was looking for good, honest reviews.

It was simply unbearable being in here last night with the lefty hater jerk-off going on.
:lmao: You are such a turd. :lmao:
You're going to start this again? C'mon, man. Don't hijack this thread like you did the last one.
When you go to Applebees, do they give you 15% off for being 80 and a humorless ####, or just for being 80?
I actually sort of thought his hatred was funny in this case. This thread has sort of been a lefty hater jerk-off since Page Five or so.
Can you blame them for wanting to avoid any attention on the two lunatics currently seeking the Dem nomination?
Give us three FACTUALLY SUPPORTED positions where Bernie is a lunatic.
The rich don't pay their "fair share" in taxes - He is correct; as a percentage of income, they do not. Establish a floor below which collecting taxes is economically infeasible, then progressive taxation. You may disagree, but it is not lunacy.

The US was founded on racist principles - Slaves were not included in the "all men are created equal," prima facae. How is this lunacy?

College education is a right. - This is lunacy how?

This whole thread was started to be a left jerk-off.

You could say they should pay more or that loopholes should be closed that prevent them from paying less, but percentage wise, they pay their "fair share"

The Founding Fathers might be guilty of the sin of omission but they left things purposely vague in order to address the issue of slavery at a later date. There were no pro-slavery ideals. They knew it had to be abolished but felt the time wasn't right.

College education is not a right.

Nope

From PP? I doubt it. Why would they let anything like that out? There are plenty of "covert" or "undercover" sorts of videos complete with former (and in some cases current) employee interviews on youtube talking about the various actions taken by PP at various times.

Give us three FACTUALLY SUPPORTED positions where Bernie is a lunatic.
1 He's a self admitted socialist

2 Partial birth abortions

3 Sanctuary cities
1. True, but socialism (he's actually a social democrat) is an economic principle, not a state of sanity.

2. There is honest disagreement as to whether this is a societally acceptable procedure. Personally, I am against it unless the life of the mother is in imminent danger, but it is no less lunacy that stating that a 6 week old fetus is a child when it could not exist outside the womb.

3. They have a purpose - if an illegal alien may be able to provide valuable info re a crime to police, but withholds it for fear of being deported...? It touches on the larger issue re illegal immigration, but it is certainly no more loony than some of the proposals on the right. Wall between the US and Canada? Wall with Mexico? Do these candidates not believe in the existence of ladders?

The Trump Wall is going huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggggeeeeeeeee

rockaction, what Fiorina said about Planned Parenthood wasn't an opinion or an argument, She stated that she personally watched a video and described what she saw in that video. What she said doesn't exist. There is no video that shows what she described. That's what made it a lie, not the bigger issue about PP. if she had said, "this is what I believe PP is doing", and had not mentioned a video, then it would not have been a lie.

Regarding the bolded, I did not hear either of the following put forward by a candidate during the debate:

  • Making the personal beliefs of county officials the highest law of the land
  • Deporting thousands of people per day until the United States is entirely emptied of non-citizens

1 I will give you. 2 and 3 are nuttier than squirrel ####.

And you asked specifically about loony Bernie. So don't compare it to the the Republican stuff.

We've got another Breitbart/Blaze situation on our hands where they're offering big money to prove her wrong, just like during the health care bill.

I'm eating popcorn and waiting. She's doubled down on the comments.

Could be she lied. Could be she was being hyperbolic. Could be she told the truth. :shrugs: We'll see.

RBM, should late term or partial birth abortions be permissible in the event of hydrocephalus, in which the baby will be brain dead and it's birth, usually by classical caesarean, could prevent the mother from ever being able to have more children?
