Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (2 Viewers)

I only like Trump and Cruz but to act like Carson is a lunatic or a moron is being completely dishonest.
If you wonder why people "attack" you...its because you support loons like Trump and weasels like Cruz.

Carson is not a lunatic...but as far as issues are concerned, he has shown himself to be a moron.

Trump is a loon? Have you not seen his kids? A loon doesn't raise kids like that., but then again I am wasting my time even responding serious to someone as brainwashed by the media as you are.

At best he is a troll.

At worst he is a loon who acts like a teenager...yet is the probably nominee for president for the Republican Party.

He would be a gigantic disaster for this country...yet people like you support him.

Its a sad state of affairs for this country.

I don't give a flying rat's ### about his kids.

Because you are mindless enough to buy into the crap he says.

the not PC excuse is crap.

But I have read enough of your posts to know that reasonable discussion cannot be had. You will support him no matter what...no matter what he says and does.

Carry on...

Jeb Jr on Marco Rubio: “As a Floridian, I'm a little disappointed, because he's missing, like, 35 percent of his votes,” the younger Bush said. “And it's just, kind of, like, dude, you know, either drop out or do something, but we're paying you to do something, it ain't run for president.”

Jeb Jr is the little Lebowski.

I really like listening to Carson. He is a history buff as much as he is a politician. And I don't think it would be possible for anyone to beat him in a general election unless Obama runs a third time. It's great to watch the media squirm when they get Carson headlines. There is nothing, absolutely nothing liberals hate more than a black conservative.
He would be annihilated in the general election. For a history buff he sure doesn't know much about history. He's a moron of breathtaking levels. He just says his stupid stuff in a calming manner and very quietly. He's a nutcase. Nobody squirms when he makes headlines. They laugh at him and his mouth breathing followers.
sig'd :lmao: :lmao:

He literally spends the vast majority of his speaking engagements talking about his poll numbers and how others are doing in the polls or with drawing crowds (often misrepresenting the crowd numbers). What the hell does that have to do with running the country? People know your name and are saying they support you on a phone call or on the Internet. So what? Show me you understand the constitution, government, and know some basic civics and geography (and maybe some leaders), and act presidential instead of like a pompous #######. Then serious people may stop saying Trump and his supporters are insane trolls.

Why wouldn't I believe that he is going to put a wall up?
He'll put a wall up, it will be beautiful and Mexico will pay for it. Also, the government will pay for free healthcare for those who can't afford it. And 75 million households will pay zero income taxes. And we'll expand our military. And we'll do all this while reducing the national debt. Talk about rainbows and unicorns. The guy is popular because he promises everything and assures us that we won't have to pay for anything.

Just trust him. He's a fantastic negotiator. Maybe the best of all time. People will just do what he wants or he will make them. Don't worry.

Well he did negotiate with CNBC a couple of changes to the next GOP debate. And won.

It should not be a surprise that the same people who think Ben Carson could win are the same people who think that he doesn't say crazy things.

He's not much of a politician so there is that.

Ben Carson Says Middle East Would Have Turned Bin Laden Over If We Threatened 'Oil Independence'

CARSON: Declare that within five to 10 years, we will become petroleum independent. The moderate Arab states would have been so concerned about that, they would have turned over Osama bin Laden and anybody else you wanted on a silver platter within two weeks.

how is it possible for someone that can separate conjoined twins to be this over the top stupid? Serious question.

Trump/Carson would offer our country negotiating skills the likes of which our puny minds cannot comprehend.

What we are seeing is the equivalent of watching Henry Kissinger being asked to separate conjoined twins.

It's a legit question.

In Flowers for Algernon, Daniel Keyes has Charlie Gordon make the observation that most "smart" people are only smart in their given field, and that they know very little about any other field, and can actually be quite stupid in their assumptions. That always struck me as probably true, and it seems that Carson may be the ultimate example of this.

I don't think he's stupid. I think he looks stupid to you because you think he's running for President. I think at most he's running for VP and more likely he's just selling books. And I think he knows his target audience. That may not make him a genius but I don't think he's stupid at all.

That's probably because your given field wasn't literature.

Actually me too.

The Republican party right now is going through the opposite of Charlie Gordon. It's like they have had surgery and gotten dumber and dumber. Hopefully it will wear off and by the end of this campaign they'll get smart again. But we'll see.

Over the weekend Ben Carson repeated his ridiculous claim about how if the Jews were only armed they would have resisted the Holocaust. A World War II historian took him apart in the New York Times, also adding the point that the fate of the Warsaw Ghetto Rebellion demonstrates what happens when individuals with small arms attempt to rise up against an organized state (even back then, minus the technology we have today.)

This morning Ben Carson repeated his absurd claim that if only we had declared our intention to be energy independent in 2001, Saudi Arabia would have turned over Osama Bin Ladin to us and 9/11 never would have happened. This added to Donald Trump's equally absurd claim that under his watch 9/11 never would have happened, because his illegal immigration proposals would have prevented the terrorists from being here. This time around Max Boot, a noted conservative writer and Middle East expert, took both of these claims to task (and destroyed them) in the Wall Street Journal.

Today Donald Trump tweeted a quip about the cold weather they're facing back east: "We sure could use some global warming right now!" So amusing.

The anti-intellectualism of the two Republican frontrunners is as startling as it is depressing. What's sad and shameful is that serious minded people are forced to waste their time refuting all this nonsense, not that it does any good. The half of the GOP voters who support these guys are immune, it seems, to reason and logic.

If you think they're bad, you should see the sycophants that support Hillary.

So here's how I see this now, (and keep in mind I have been disastrously wrong about this campaign so far every step of the way- but then so has just about everybody else.):

Back in 2011-12 it was possible for the conservative voters to defeat Mitt Romney, whom they despised, but they couldn't coalesce behind one candidate. By the time the actual voting came around, there was Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, neither one a stellar choice. Still, I believe that if one of those two had gotten out early and backed the other, the final result might have been different. But it was not to be: both Gingrich and Santorum had too much ego to quit, and they split the vote between them, which helped Romney.

This time around, it's the reverse, and it's the non-establishment candidate (Trump) who is taking advantage of the fact that the establishment can't coalesce behind one guy. If, as I suspect, Ben Carson bows out after the first few states, along with Huckabee (and maybe even Cruz) that's going to make it even more difficult for the establishment to defeat Trump. They need to choose, and choose quickly, between Bush, Rubio, Kasich, and Christie. That is their only shot to prevent the unthinkable calamity of a Trump victory.

Of these 4, Rubio is the strongest. But I don't know if Jeb Bush would be willing to quit the race and endorse Rubio. If he doesn't, Trump could pull this out.

I haven't been wrong so far. On the Democrat side, I said Hillary will continue to suck and win anyway, which couldn't be more right so far. On the GOP side, I said, and still say, it's early. Trump and Carson will fall by the wayside. Rubio and Bush are the most likely, with Kasich a very outside shot.

I have the same disclaimer. At this point I think I can lay out a case for why each Republican cannot get the nomination. But it has to go to someone.

It will be interesting to see if the more the establishment comes after Trump, the more it actually helps him.

Those four have a combined 20% right now; they'd only be in 3rd place.

Well, the idea (at least the hope) is that number will go up. We'll see.

Just hard to see the Trump/Carson voters (currently a combined 50%) go to one of those guys.

With regard to the Carson voters, I have a hunch- this may be wrong- that a good chunk of them aren't necessarily "anti-establishment" types like the ones that support Trump or Cruz. I think that a lot of them are impressed by Carson's story and his demeanor, and haven't really paid too much attention to his craziness. This part is anecdotal, but my in-laws are staunch "establishment" type Republicans and while they despise Trump, they expressed great admiration for Ben Carson and a willingness to support him, and were surprised and skeptical when I tried to tell them about some of Ben's more "interesting" comments.

If and when Carson leaves, not all these voters are going to go to Trump or Cruz.

Carson is in first place in Iowa right now, has good national polling numbers, and has stockpiled money, much of it coming from small donors who can continue to give more. At this point I'd say he's one of the least likely candidates to drop out after the first few states.

Not to mention Huckabee doesn't have a history of "bowing out" just because he can't win. And I doubt Cruz drops out quickly either. He's always taken the long view on this.
