Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (1 Viewer)

Trump is skilled at negotiating business deals (where all sides have the same goal), but he has very little skill or experience in negotiating with an opponent who is diametrically opposed to everything you stand for. It's not like he can just tell Iran "Accept my terms or else the deal is off!"
Domestically, his whole argument makes no sense. He is appealing to voters who do not want negotiation with GOP or Democratic establishment - so what is the point of the negotiating skill?
What he's selling is that he is such a fantastic negotiator that he can get whatever he wants (what America wants) at the negotiating table. He won't have to compromise because he'll be able to fleece the other side (e.g., make Mexico pay for the wall, make China stop manipulating currency, make Iran do our bidding without us having to make any concessions, etc.).

Johnnymac...I didn't say anyone couldn't have an opinion. I just said it was probably worth less than nothing.
But why? I mean if people follow politics it would seem that they would be informed about both parties coming into an election. Maybe I'm missing your point and jumped in midstream. If so, I apologize.
No. No need to apologize.

Generally speaking, people who follow politics know more about what is going on in both parties more than your average person. And I am not saying that in general a GOP or Dem voter can't have an opinion on what is going on about anything on the other side of the aisle.

Obviously, I am going to have macro ideas/thoughts on what is going on with the Dems. But, I am not going to be able to drill down and hone in on what is fully motivating certain wings/demographics in the Dem party to go for Hillary or Sanders.

My annoyance has generally been a reluctance on those on the left on these boards to admit that they are not really up to speed with what is happening on the GOP side. Sure...have an opinion. Hell...I really don't even mind if someone on the left said that Trump was a joke and would never get nominated in July. Or August.

But at some point you have to recognize that what you thought and what is happening is disconnected. And the source of the disconnect is not that a really smart guy underestimated how dumb or racist millions of people are.

I would never say that I underestimated how many millions of Americans are socialists because Sanders is gaining in popularity. But that would be close to the equivalent...a bunch of right wingers saying that they weren't wrong on Sanders...just didn't realize how many commies we had in this country.

@BB- We've seen this already with Canada, basically our fraternal twin and best buddy from when we were kids as colonies, how do we screw that up?

How about we neither do them a solid and take their big pipeline project, nor do we deal with them straight up and say it's just not good for our environment..... no, we instead extort them and say we will do it for a piece of the action and hold them up for a full quarter of the profits. I can hear the fffffuuuuuuu....U from Ottawa already.

squistion...i never suggested that your prognostication skills were related to understanding what irony means.

Do I need to treat you like a mother treats her baby? Would you prefer that I put the Cheerio in my mouth to get it soggy before giving it to you to eat?

If so, I will start breaking my posts down into bite size morsels by separating them into multiple posts.

In the business world, when the other side refuses to accept your terms, you just cancel that deal and move on to the next one. How would that apply to any of the scenarios you described above?

:lmao: Why do you guys keep coming back for more from Sida? I mean it's funny to me but he's been making complete fools of a few of you, especially Squistion, for a month or so and you just keep returning for more.
I have been saying he is racist for months following his "Mexican rapists" remarks, along with his "white pride" and "my people" comments. And that was pretty much proven recently when Tobias asked him to explain where he was coming from and SIDA was given enough rope to hang himself and he did.

The GOP is comprised of many hardcore nationalists like myself. People who believe in national sovereignty, superiority of America and American values. A group of people who think that their country is being stolen from right out underneath them. That it is being overrun by a marauding horde of undesirables from third world cesspools, “refugees” from terrorist countries who despise our nation and want to see it obliterated, and by transnational corporate thieves who are more concerned about the next dollar than what is best for the American working class.

First....you have been saying this for months? That is interesting since you are referring to comments I made in a thread that was started on Jan 4th....of 2016.

Second, a nationalist can be a racist. But a nationalist isn't necessarily a racist. After you are done looking up the meaning of the word irony...spend some time nationalist. And take a refresher on logic, too.

Not sure how a horde of undesirables is a racist statement. And Third World cesspools are third world cesspools. Would you prefer I said something a little more PC like Third World undeveloped countries?

You might not like my description...but your dislike of it does not make my comments racist.

Sure looks that way, unless you were saying my predicting the future by dismissing Trump in July is unrelated to my comprehension of GOP politics.

Your definition of irony...like your definition of racist...is about as solid as your comprehension of GOP politics.

Stick to what you know best... like regurgitating your Twitter feed in here...when you are not predicting the future with flying colors:

Johnnymac...I didn't say anyone couldn't have an opinion. I just said it was probably worth less than nothing.
And there are plenty here who you likely consider left is that would vote Republican with a credible candidate.

Your long pontificating posts talking down to us like we are children also aren't helping you.

Your opinions seem worth far less than others here who can make points without coming off how you always do.

:lmao: Why do you guys keep coming back for more from Sida? I mean it's funny to me but he's been making complete fools of a few of you, especially Squistion, for a month or so and you just keep returning for more.
Because the rest of us have our eyes open and see the only fool being made is him. Well, and you with posts like this.

Johnnymac...I didn't say anyone couldn't have an opinion. I just said it was probably worth less than nothing.
Eh I think anyone, right or left can have an informed opinion on either party. I just think guys like Tim, Squistion and Toby have proven time and time again that they have absolutely no clue what they're talking about, yet continue to come back here and obnoxiously run their mouth like they have it all figured out.
So much irony in this one too.

I have to say, I really like this toned down version of Donald Trump...making a lot of sense in this interview with Wolf Blitzer.

squistion...i never suggested that your prognostication skills were related to understanding what irony means.

Stop the condescending bs...you are not nearly as smart or tuned in or informed as you think you are.

the whole exchange is pretty foolish all around. Lot's of "look squirrel" and lack of understanding in what's going into the Trump support. Which is kind of odd...it seems crystal clear what's happening from my POV.

I am sure there are Dems who will vote for Republicans. I have said the opposite numerous times. Not sure why you would think anyone's opinion about who they would vote for would be influenced by my posts on a message board. But, I appreciate your thinking I am that influential.

It is odd that you chastise me for "coming off the way I do" when I posted dozens of times in July/Aug/Sept about what was going on. I explained what was going on. And of late after being called a racist and a bigot countless times you think I have an attitude?

That is all pretty rich considering one of the very first things you said to me was:

Yeah, sure you're not. :lmao:
After I said that "I'm sure there are some [Republicans who will vote for the R no matter what]. I'm not one of them though."

Yeah...telling me you know who I have voted for, how I have voted in past and will vote for in the future is not talking down to me. Thanks!

"Low-energy" doomed Jeb.

"Con-man" can doom Trump.

Just keep on saying Con-Man.

Rich New-Yorker who inherited his fortune.

Ran a casino and even failed at that. Con-Man

Was liberal into his 60's but then had a change of heart. Con-Man.

He's a Con-Man and you have ammo to back it up and continue the conversation for sound bytes. Rich New-Yorker who was liberal and whose casino's went bankrupt. Con-Man.

Just say Con-Man over and over.
Who are you talking to?
Ted Cruz?
#### he's here? What's his handle?
#1Cruzfan! (aka, theonlyCruzfan)

In all my years on this forum, I don't recall anyone so pompous, condescending and insulting. The below is from this thread today and is vintage SIDA:

Do I need to treat you like a mother treats her baby? Would you prefer that I put the Cheerio in my mouth to get it soggy before giving it to you to eat?

Why am I not surprised you don't know when you're being made a fool of.

Must happen to you all day huh...

Yeah...excuse me while I go cry in my beer because the guy who routinely calls me a racist up and down this forum, doesn't know the meaning of irony and has no idea what conflating is didn't like how I called him out for not understanding a previous post where he conflated two comments in one post and thought they were related.

Getting lectured on decorum and decency by a guy who mocked people with Aspergers to score message board points is rich. A fellow FBG with a son suffering from Aspergers tells you you are full of crap and you don't even have the onions to apologize for your insensitive behavior. But you do have time to delete a related post and portray yourself as the progressive tolerant on this board.

Yay....internet social justice warriors! Unite!

Si, se puede.

It doesn't. I was merely explaining what Saints saw as a disconnect. I'm certainly not saying that it's a compelling position.

Poor GOP, indeed, for all the years they have been picking the next in line, the Dole, the McCain, the Romney, they finally have a shot and they have their base obsessed with hating the establishment's next in line pick.
Poor GOP?Trump is the result of their own failures to live up to the promises made to the GOP. When you betray the people who work in the trenches for your party and actually view the party as a means to achieve certain political goals and you stab them in the back repeatedly, this is the result.

Maybe you meant poor GOP in a sarcastic sense like...look at that poor sob who broke into that house and got their head blown off by the homeowner.
Im still somewhat baffled by this argument, which I'm hearing all over the place, because what the conservative base wanted was not politically possible. You guys wanted the government shut down permanently in order to defund Obamacare. You wanted to refuse to raise the debt ceiling, which would have sent us into economic chaos. And because the GOP leadership acted in the only sane way they could and didn't give in to these laughable demands, you put up Donald Trump and it's THEIR fault?
yep.

Running of the mouth is what we do. I think I have a plan-they think they have a plan.

Would like to go into it more but altered states are arriving.

I'm kind of fascinated with this statement by the Iowa Gov that he's endorsing no one and that people should vote for anyone but Ted Cruz.

I'm not sure "fascinating" is a word I would ever associate with our current governor.
I didn't realize you were in Iowa. Have you ever caucused before?

If so, you should share your experiences here. I think many of us would be interested in hearing about it.

Just wondering.

You seem to take this place very seriously and level a ton of criticism at others....while not being able to handle criticism that comes your way very well.

No wonder you fit so well with Trump.

Yes I live in Iowa but I have not participated in a caucus. It has always seemed rather a strange process to me so I just have avoided it to be honest. Maybe it is actually different than my perceptions so I am considering it this year. I will definitely report back if I do caucus.

You are wrong at nearly every turn and will defend anything and everything that is right leaning.

I don't bookmark pages to throw in anyone's face.

But after being repeatedly accused of doing and saying things I didn't say or do...and after numerous people said they didn't say X when I know they did...I like to substantiate and cite the factual record.

Maybe if more people went back and re-read the #### they typed the would have a much different perspective on thing.

I think it is funny though when people come in and take pot shots at me or throw racist labels at me like they are ordering a burger at the drive thru and then when I respond I am the one taking things seriously or not able to handle criticism. I get called a racist...but I am the one with the problem because I was condescending.

To my knowledge I haven't taken a run at anyone that hasn't taken a run at me.

What on Earth possesses someone like you to take an abrasive tone with a person and then act like an innocent victim when that person responds in kind?

What on Earth possesses someone like squistion to repeatedly call someone a racist without ever citing any proof and then causes them to feign disgust and moral outrage at the condescending tone exhibited by that person in response?

GTFO

Don't like my tone...check yours. If you want to squash it and engage me in a civil manner from here on out then as far as I am concerned you can consider the matter resolved and I won't hold past interactions against you.

1st...things people said you did or said...you did. You can keep denying it...but you made statements that came off as racist. Even those supporting you in other things did not defend you on that. You made the statements and continued to spin and deny rather than just owning up to it...whether it was schtick or not.

2nd...you have gotten bent out of shape on it and go on multip paragraphed BS to try and explain. Its part of what makes people say you take it too seriously.

3rd...not playing any innocent victim (you seem to try that often yourself though).

4th...your racist comments were cited multiple times by multiple people.

5th...its impossible to engage you in a civil manner because, like the guy you support in Trump, you have proven yourself incapable of being civil with those who disagree with you.

I don't give a rat's behind if you think its squashed or what. I will comment when I see fit...and don't care if you want to use past whatever against me or not. Seems you like digging and taking the time to go back months at a time if need be to try and throw it around at people. Have at it...just know that crap will get mocked and laughed at.

Also, if you want to try and play the card that others are not bringing proof of what they claim...you continue to bring up that someone mocked someone else's disease...when that is not how it actually went down.

6th...seems like I hit a nerve.

Hey...at least we're both not bigoted towards ellipses...

Yes I live in Iowa but I have not participated in a caucus. It has always seemed rather a strange process to me so I just have avoided it to be honest. Maybe it is actually different than my perceptions so I am considering it this year. I will definitely report back if I do caucus.
I'd be very interested in hearing about this as well.
What is the reason they still do it this way? Just to be different?
There are quite a few states - about a dozen(?) - that do, including my own state of Washington. I honestly have no idea why.

Nerve?

Yeah, many have tried...none have or will succeed in hitting a nerve.

Its a message board...the day it ever hits a nerve or affects me is the day I walk away.

Well, if you say you are fine then you must be fine. I am not going to sit here and suggest I know what you are thinking or how you are feeling. I'll leave that to you because you are far better than I am at knowing what another person is thinking.

However, your tone with me has been a little out of whack since the jump though so I feel like I must have hit a nerve in order for you to have reacted to me in the manner in which you have thus far.

Our first interaction to my knowledge was in this thread a couple of weeks ago. I hope you don't mind if I post a link. I don't want you to feel like I am trying to throw anything in your face...but you tell me where we went wrong.

Out of nowhere you hit me with the following exchange:

Posted 07 January 2016 - 08:10 PM

Is this still the thread where a bunch of people who will never vote republican comment on what the gop needs to do to win and how racist all the Republican voters are. ...oh, and how trump has no chance?
Or the place where a bunch of people who will vote republican no matter what pretend they are open minded when they know they will vote for Trump or Cruz or whoever with an R next to their name.
I'm sure there are some. I'm not one of them though.
Yeah, sure you're not. :lmao:
I mean...we haven't interacted in this thread and I can only surmise that you missed the dozens of posts I have made in the various threads up to this poit in time otherwise you would know that I am not a lockstep GOP voter.

A few posts up you are accusing me of being condescending and impossible to interact with. You wrote: "its impossible to engage you in a civil manner because, like the guy you support in Trump, you have proven yourself incapable of being civil with those who disagree with you."

Well...let's take a look and see how I responded. Oh...here it is. Let's see how uncivil I was with you. I wrote:

I have no reason to lie. I did not vote for Bush in 2004. Not sure why you would think I'm lying.

I have never voted for a dem for federal office though.
Ooh...you can almost feel the Bern on that one. It is like...I went full nuclear on you for no reason.

Seriously...this is me engaging in an uncivil manner?

You didn't even respond. But days later you would once again hit on this theme for some strange reason. And you have been abrasive ever since. I mean...I am sure I didn't hit a nerve with you. I just don't know why you would think that I am condescending and incapable of engaging in a civil conversation.

Is it possible you are projecting?

I don't bookmark pages to throw in anyone's face.

But after being repeatedly accused of doing and saying things I didn't say or do...and after numerous people said they didn't say X when I know they did...I like to substantiate and cite the factual record.
Yes, we have noticed.

Yeah...it has gotten a little out of hand. I should probably just send you some PMs with messages of 140 characters or less and then have you post them here.
