Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (1 Viewer)

If all the candidates from both parties were running and the election was Tuesday, I'd vote for Kasich. I'm not sure who my second favorite is, but I'd vote for Jim 11 before I voted for Cruz. Not sure if Jim is running as an independent. :oldusure:
Amen to that. It boggles the mind how so many people are on board with Ted Cruz.
He gets the hard core Christian right vote and that's about it.

He's a non factor.

CNN really taking it to Cruz for him blaming them for the Dr. Carson fiasco.

Their graphic is in capitalized bold font: CRUZ MISSTATES CNN'S REPORTING AT GOP DEBATE
They are destroying him on air right now.
Erin Burnett read the official CNN response, then she tossed it over to Wolf Blitzer who got in a couple of body shots, and then back to Burnett and the panel for a brutal piling on.
If I'm at the bottom of a pile that Erin Burnett is on, I'm not complaining.

Fox just interviewed Carson and didn't bring up the CNN debacle. SHOCKING!!!!!

They are going to the round table now, hopefully bobblehead Britt Hume is available to shake his head in agreement with walking dead star Krauthammer.

Lots of **** grabbing on the bottom of a pile.

She can get a little beastly at times, especially when she gets pregnant. But I like my women on the big side.

Republican primary voters don't watch CNN, so it's not going to matter.
Yeah, that's not true at all. Plus this has been reported by the Washington Post among others.
It was said with tongue in cheek since Republicans only watch Fox. But, seriously, if you are a movement conservative, you are firmly in the Cruz camp since there aren't any good alternatives. If you are a moderate, you're not going to vote for him anyway. Therefore, the CNN/ Carson scandal won't move the needle in NH. It might hurt down the rode though, as Cruz should have been the natural second choice for Carson supporters.
Ah I see, some truth here for certain.

Kasich sounding very happy with himself on Fox. Thinks he will do well and talking about how he has a national campaign witch chips in S.C., Nevada and Michigan.

If he finishes in double digit percentages he looks like a lock to stay in the race, regardless of where he places.

I'd be so happy with this. I like this guy. Though it's possible I'd still lean toward Hillary, I'd love to have an actual choice in the matter and to get to know more about him.

I don't think this will hurt Rubio at all in NH. His supporters aren't going to abandon him after tonight, and the undecided moderates he was targeting were probably s bit turned off by all the attacks. He didn't have a good night though, and he did seem unprepared. He needs to up his game and connect more with the audience. He's way too cerebral.
I don't know or see any rabid Rubio supporters. Obviously he has some but this will hurt with anyone that was even remotely on the fence. It did for me.

It might. The media is killing him so it looks worse than I originally thought. But who knows, maybe this will finally smack some sense into him and he'll learn from it and be less robotic going forward. This is how they get battle tested.

I've hoped for it through these debates but I just don't see it happening.

Howard Dean scream level hurt?

Interesting...not sure.

I can only speak for myself and admittedly my support for him has been wavering for a few weeks now but that was it for me. He didn't fight back.

I haven't been paying attention to South Carolina but I don't see any reason he'd expect to do well there.

Me too. I would assume however that if Kasich finishes second in NH he could take some momentum into that contest and hope to build on it.

Rubio had one of the worst nights I can remember. Christie ate McRubio up like a double cheeseburger.

I know nobody wants to hear it but Trump is likely to have his 1/3 of the vote show up in force in NH. South Carolina will be interesting and Nevada seems like Trumpland. I still see Trump winning at least 2 of the 3 remaining states b4 the Super Tuesday with 12 states. The 7 that debated last night should try and stay until the 1st big Super Tues.

Of the establishment folks I would rank them Kasich, Bush, Christie, Rubio...and I would have Kasich well ahead of the others. I just don't like his position on giving huge tax cuts to Wall Street and the banks, that does not sit well. But the GOP in general leans like that.

Still think most of these guys will fail vs the DNC.

Kasich for the $$$$ We need to get behind this guy if us Moderate Republicans want a real shot at the White House. Cruz...Trump....absolute disasters and a sure fire way to lose the general election. And Rubio? LMFAO what a little punk. No shot in hell.

Stop wasting your time with these clowns and get behind a reasonable Governor who understands what it takes to run a country.

Wake up!!!

Wait until Kasich starts getting focused on by competitors. The guy worked at Lehman Brothers right up until the collapse in 2008. Granted he was only a Director, but the Democrsts would still kill him on that.

Why did Rubio act like he won and everybody seemed so surprised Rubio came in 3rd? Who did you expect to come in 3rd in Iowa? Carson has been irrelevant for weeks. Bush is doa. Kasich and Christie spent 5 minutes there. It was always Rubio in 3rd with Trump and Cruz fighting to win it. It was surprising that he almost caught Trump, but that's it. Now he can fall by the wayside.

Kasich is the only one that can win a general election and the only one true independents or dems who hate Hillary but refuse to vote for a socialist would consider.

Trump is strong on ABC this week right now.... rightly defends eminent domain as a necessary evil and doesn't back down to Stephanopoliis in terms of harsh tactics in the region.

As Brit Hume (I can't believe I'm agreeing with Brit Hume) said on Fox, the real problem for Rubio last night is that it amplified his perceived shortcomings already. Christie called him rookie senator good at sound bytes. And he proceeded to do exactly that.

I don't think it's fatal but I could see undecideds breaking to another establishment candidate in the last 2 days here.

Where was this exuberance when Mitt was running? He was the real deal . He would have been a magnificent president . I'm telling you he would have been . What a shame. Real shame.

Kasich is running for the veeps long as Trump is in the race. He can't beat Donald . The establishment isn't going to win . Believe me

The last time we checked in the GOP field was about 30% bigger but after Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum and Rand Paul all dropped out of a race they never had a chance in, we finally got a bit more clarity. As we saw from the Dems, less is more in these cases and the quicker you can get down to two, the better.

Quick review

Rubio-

Ground Control to Major Tom

Somebody forgot to update the software on the Koch Brother Rubio robot because there was a point where you were half expecting his campaign manager to walk up on stage to press alt-ctl-delete because he was stuck in an endless loop

This debate will be about what Marco lost more than what anybody else gained but make no mistakes this was a Poland Spring cringe worthy moment and shows that Rubio has no ability to think on his feet

Christie

For the second debate in a row Big Chris showed the world what kind of great debater (and bully) he really is. He is not presidential but when it comes to a format like this, he shines. Although the visual of him sitting in his tidy whities chugging Bud Lites and eating an entire large pie while the NJ congress shuts down the state government is not a visual I need.

Jeb!-

Please clap

Kasich-

Somebody better tell John that the combination of being smart, experienced and positive is a losing combination. Maybe you didn't get the message, we want somebody to tell us how crappy the country is, how much brown people will kill the American Dream, how much Jesus of Nazareth would hate Jesus of Tijuana, how Obama sucks and have it all be spewed in 20 second soundbites. And please get that twitch under control, you look like you are mixing a milkshake up on stage.

Carson-

Glad to see you got new clothes, now go home

Cruz-

It was pretty telling when at the end of the debate all the candidates had their families come up and hug their husbands and fathers and Heidi Cruz decided to stay in be audience. For all the talk about his uncompromising morality, he is a disgusting snake. The Iowa things with Carson was W in South Carolina bad.

Trump-

The reason Trump underperformed in Iowa is because the caucus system forces you to stand up in public and fight for your guy. Trump appeals to people and they will admit it in anonymous polls but I have to think that when you get in front of your peers people get stage fright because it's like admitting to your neighbors, business associates and fellow PTA members that you're voting for Kim Kardashian

But in New Hampshire we go to a normal anonymous primary and that could work in his favor. What is scary is that he's actually gotten better at this thing over time and I still think he takes New Hampshire big and then takes that momentum to South Carolina and Nevada He commands the stage and his rivals are so afraid of him that they won't ever engage him. Jeb! tried but it was about six months too late which is the story of his life. Anyway, nobody else will take Trump to task, maybe they all expect him to implode but we all know by now that this just isn't happening and all we can count on now is that primary voters can't be that stupid, can they?

Romney shot himself in the foot with his "47%" comment. His refusal to release more tax returns made it appear like he had something to hide. He also was not the most charismatic person and never seemed to connect with average working class Americans. Trump is connecting with part of that group.

Kasich is running for the veeps long as Trump is in the race.
He probably shouldn't have told people he'd make a terrible VP
One of the reporters on cnn said Kasich told her that he didn't want to be VP and that it wasn't a good fit for him.

I can see him choosing to be an executive and staying in Ohio. ..but perhaps he wants to stifle any talk of him being a VP because he knows NH do or die and doesn't want to take focus off that.

It was Mitt. Hard to get exuberant over someone who has the persona of a used car salesman.

Kasich finally got some time with the big boys last night and he looked like a high school teacher. I agree that he is playing for VP only.

Trump and Cruz played it safe last night. Rubio imploded and Christie owned him. Carson still looks stoned. Bush looked better, but he needs some of these other guys to go away for him to make any progress.
