Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (2 Viewers)

Good god Christie comes off as pathetic whenever he's near Trump.  Trump even dissed him and the good, crazy doctor during his victory speech and Christie just laughed like a physically beaten man.

Trump really does have the best words.

Should he reveal how? Seriously should he lay his plans out as to how to solve this problem??

Maybe tweet them out
I'd rather him just be honest and admit there's no actual "quick" way to dispose of ISIS. When it comes to our military, killing people is easy..ideology..not so much.

I haven't seen the details of Trump's foreign policy speech yet but i did see a headline that says the US should be "unpredictable" in foreign policy.

That sounds like a perfectly sane and rationally safe doctrine for the biggest nuclear armed country on earth. What could go wrong?

Speak softly and carry a big stick

I liked the gist of the speech...

1) America first, no more nation building
2) No more wasteful spending. The military will have the best of the best, but you gotta use the money wisely and for the best of the military - not because of political back deals.
3) Allies must pay their fair share - America will back it's agreements but expect the same of it's partners. Be ready to leave bad negotiations with ####ty countries.
4) Regain the respect of the world. Made fun of Obama traveling to Copenhagen only to be pissed on by the olympic committee. (And the recent no-shows after Air Force One landed in various countries)
5) A coherent foreign strategy - pointed out the flaws of Obamas and Hillarys ideology fueled foreign policy

Yeah, as I wrote, it's a repudiation of America's foreign policy since 1945.

Earlier in my own thread in my writeup of my 100 favorite novels I had Armageddon by Leon Uris (#76) about the Berlin Airlift. I highly recommend this novel for anyone who (a) enjoys a good and suspenseful read and (b) would like to learn how our "nation building" once upon a time saved the free world from communism. It is absolutely in our best interests to stay engaged in the rest of the world. Trump's proposed isolationism would be disastrous.

Trump's proposed isolationism would be disastrous.
Disastrous to who?  Disastrous to people in NYC's twin towers that were a direct result of our engagement in the Middle East?

We are not the world police and the vast majority of countries in the world do not want us to be the world police.  The rest of the world needs to step up.

You're seriously equating rebuilding Europe after WWII with the Cold War and specifically our post-war intervention in the Middle East?

"We will no longer surrender this country or its people to the false song of globalism. The nation-state remains the true foundation for happiness and harmony. I am skeptical of international unions that tie us up and bring America down. And under my administration we will never enter America into any agreement that reduces our ability to control our own affairs."

I'm in love

Under what body?  When you talk about the "rest of the world" do you want the UN to have this power?  NATO is not setup to work in the ME.

In some ways yes. Certainly not in the way we carried it out. I was against our involvement in Iraq, in favor of our involvement in Egypt and Libya, unsure of our involvement in Syria, very much in favor of our negotiations with Iran.

There are no simple rules here. This is very complicated. Donald Trump's campaign represents the American yearning for simple, straightforward solutions, and those don't exist IMO. We need to be very careful.

For instance, let's take his "secret" plan to destroy ISIS. If I had to guess, it will involve some sort of massive bombing attack of the areas governed by ISIS, followed perhaps by some sort of invasion but no plans for governing. And maybe destroying their oil fields. All of this is extremely dangerous. It will satisfy an emotional need to "DO SOMETHING", but it would also precipitate insurrections all over the Middle East, possible revolutions, and certainly make us less safe from terrorism. It is stupid stupid stupid.

Anybody watching the Bobby Knight stump on CNN right now??

Dude in the back wearing a "Hillary for Prision" Tshirt.  :lmao: :lmao:

Bobby Knight is still charismatic as hell...so epic.

Couldn't agree more.

Right out of a Hitler speech.

Well yeah, Trump is a moron appealing to morons.  That goes without saying.

What I don't see is how our long history of intervention in the Middle East has done anything outside of cause further fires down the road. It's been a fustercluck starting with our support of the Shah in Iran and extending through our current alliance with the Saudis.  Supporting those types of regimes are one of the true root causes of 9/11 and global terror.

Fully agree with your second & third lines.

Did this really happen today?  Fiorina?  It's like the second least likable person in the galaxy looked far and wide to find the least likable person in the galaxy, and actually found her.  These two are made for each other.

Ted Cruz picked Carly Fiorina as his VP. Not to be outdone, Voldemort named Bellatrix LaStrange as his if the Convention goes to 2nd ballot.

Still an outside chance there's a brokered convention, which is why he and Kasich are hanging around probably.
it's the only hope.. writing is on the wall in Pencil right now.. If Trump wins Indiana it will be over written with magic marker... 3rd Party here I come yet again.. If only a legitimate 3rd party candidate would enter. :kicksrock:

cough..bulls**t

Interesting that Trump waited until after the Northeast primaries to say the US shouldn't get involved to help police areas like the Middle East. He might have had some backlash in NY,PA, MD if he said he was turning his back on Israel.

So Trump is an isolationist that goes on and on about how we need to strengthen the most powerful military the world has ever seen.

As usual, makes perfect sense.
