Not a fan of some of these CNN reporters hamming it up. Like that magical 25 pound palm frawn in Miami Beach. And telling us the place is getting hammered, while the lights are on and the wind is your average light thunderstorm at the moment.

I've got one, maybe two, co-workers who are "hunkered down" in Naples. Granted, they are more inland away from the coast but still....

Why stay?

My in-laws have a condo south of Bonita Beach. They stayed because they are on th 5th floor.  :mellow:

 
Prayers for all of Florida but specifically Tampa. According to NBC News Tampa is the 7th most vulnerable cities for a hurricane. They have over 700 miles of shoreline. 

 
1500 emergency vehicles along with crews being housed in Orange County Convention Center, including black hawk helicopters.  :eek:

 
So worst case for keys is that back half of storm carries most surge and pulls through as tides rise. 

Also given they have seen bad conditions for more than 8 hrs and winds are less on back of a cane could lead people to go outside and get face to face w surge 

Maybe the tide timing was just perfect to avoid a mass casualty event.

Wow. Two things I thought while watching that.

1 - What if a piece of debris hits him? A small length of 2x4 or a piece of corrugated metal would cut him in half. 

2 - Why did he need to get out of the car? Couldn't he just hold the thing out the window?

Yep. And if he somehow gets taken off his feet, he's not getting back up.

Shear really tearing the storm up and messing with the track.  Showing vulnerability. Need a braveheart style pike wall up now. 

 
Posted this in the other thread, but it can't hurt to put it here as well  

I lost power (Boca Raton, FL) about 60 minutes ago. Reports out of West Boca are saying that a group of people are posing as utility personnel checking on water/electricity. They're going door to door and are armed. They've robbed people in Boca Springs (441 just South of Palmetto). 

Be safe and vigilant FBG's!!

In the middle of the storm?

 
Storm is changing so quickly.  Nobody has a clue whats next. Worried this track has shifted off so much that an atlantic push is in play. The shear was way more heavy than forecast. 

Need a kill shot. 

 
So I don't talk to my dad a whole lot. I see him every few months and we text occasionally, but not a lot. 

I haven't talked to my sister and her husband in over 4 years. 

They are all at my house. 3 people I hardly speak to or don't speak to at all, hunkered down in my house while I am 600 miles away. 

Weird.

They must be Gators.  

 
Showing strength. Picking up lots of water last 30 minutes.  Pressure holding. Unreal. 

Tide now coming in. 

Next 6 hours should be the worst of it.

If they're armed, they don't really need to be posing as utility personnel. :shrug:
