Comes down to whether or not you can trust either of these guys to suddenly turn into a decent human once they have a bunch of money and free time.  I'm guessing not.  Don't know if the size of the town really matters, if they #### up again, it won't be just the local media on them and the team, heat will come from all over for both these guys.  There's ample warnings in their history.   

Aside from the similar issue of punching women, Cook has been charged with robbery and possessing and firing a weapon on (high?) school property from several years before, though these were later dropped.

Cases like these two guys are different than guys who fail drug tests etc.  Smoking weed doesn't make you a terrible person, committing violent crimes does.

I know you haven't been here in awhile but I already said this on here a few weeks ago. I had a friend of went to FSU and was on Scholarship for LAX became really good friends with members of the Football team and from talking to Cook's teammates and from the whole athleteic Department have said Cook in the last year and a half has really matured and there's been zero issues. Saw how important a possible NFL career was. First guy in everyday and one of the very last to leave. Seems to have really put his off feild problems aside. As for Mixon he had another incident this past Winter during the season. Mixon I'd stay away from with a 100FT pole. I'm now hearing some project Mixon back into the 1st round. Sorry but that to me is a waste of a pick. I have a gut feeling this guy is gonna continue to be a problem off the field and in the 1st round that's a huge risk. i also have issues with Mixon's level of a competition where he played in a conference where Arena ball scores broke out each week and very little defense.

I don't agree with either of these. But with Mixon (as Chris Rock once said) I understand. 

I've seen you say this multiple time. From reports I've seen I'm betting she hit him for a reason. There's reports including the initial deadspin report said Mixon used a homophobic slur insulted her friend. This is from the original report. To say he was provoked just seems like people trying to defend him because all they saw in the video before he hit her was her going after him. Its like all the police brutality reports we see where the video is taken after the fact we don't see the beginning of cop meets person before altercation insues.

I can look past it, but media simply won't.  It will be headlines of "new evidence comes out that suggests Mixon was drinking when he hit the girl".  or "Mixon accuser files secondary suit" or "Mixon tips waitress 5%, proves he hates women".

I asked the question if it will be on national tv more as a serious question... Not sure if they actually would or not.  But if it made its way around the web, or we started winning and he started carrying our team, we would hear the jabs non stop from other fans, and maybe some analysts.  I personally am able to get over it and am fine with him on our team... my only argument is that this wouldn't just be dropped so easily.  When people want an excuse to attack our team or player, they will find it, and this video will come up again.

I think you guys don't factor into this. This is a college kid who isn't in the pros paid. he went to Oklahoma not a USC, FSU, UF, PSU, OSU, UM, etc huge college that gets National news constantly. Most people have turned out the Big 12 as well do to their lack of interest in a conference that has arena football type scores each game and very little defense. I have co workers huge college football fans very casual NFL fans who tuned out the Big12 because of this. Really wasn't talked about much through national media like ABC, CNN, Foxnews, etc haven't really picked it up. He gets picked in the 1st (I don't think he does but hearing murmurs he might now) it's gonna be a you know what storm for the NFL. We saw how people reacted after the Ray Rice video was released no? Just imagine if his video is released and he gets drafted early. ESPN and people will drum it up again for huge headlines. The problem is many of these news outlets are hypocrites. They'll tell you what a scumbag he is yet the first huge game he may have they will all be hanging on his balls and having circle jerks over the highlights. Honestly I think if these guys get charged with a crime in college and continue to mess up I believe that there should be a program they should have to enter after entering the draft and continue to do that through the first season or so. Either way this thing is gonna be big news when it comes out again and will be picked up by national non sports media this time.

Ray Lewis killed a guy and he gets a standing ovation every time he returns to Baltimore. 

I agree with AP. I was sick to my stomach when he got a heros welcome and am hoping the Eagles don't sign him still for what he did. There's disciplining kids and there's crossing a line to child abuse and he crossed it. Ray Rice was starting to decline. 

I always see people mention Ray Lewis but I've never seen anyone legit put anything out there in terms of sources or info that he killed a guy. Everything I ever read was he was investigated for being involved in a murder but was never a murder suspect and suspicion possible that he helped cover it up but nothing ever saying he killed anyone. Basically a suspect at one point but never really anything found other then blood in his limo. Do I think Ray Lewis murdered someone? No. Do I think he knows more about the crime then what he's ever admitted and his two friends possible did or help commit the crime? Sure. 

Is the NFL and fans hypocrites how they act towards certain players and things? Sure look at all the people who cheered Vick when he came back but vilified Ray Rice after the video hit public. I think that video being released was the best thing to ever happen in pro sports on these issues. people brush them aside. I had a good friend who's sister was killed do to DV and had another friend my friends and i had to get out of a DV situation. Just this past September I had to help a Co worker deal with one and this was serious given the guy was a member of the Pagan Biker Club. I also had an Uncle who was slightly abusive to my then aunt who left him. Many of that had to deal with a lot of things including his bi polar and not taking medication prescribed to him or better overall treatment. Sports fans and the media are hypocrites. A player starts to stink or isn't great he does a crime or whatever people lose their sh** over them but everyone is hush hush makes every excuse imaginable for a player who's a great player. I'm at the point where I'm not surprised anymore when I see fans say I'd take Mixon despite what he did because of talent. Meanwhile they villify the 12th man on the bench of the NBA team because of some off the court issues.

I'm more so saying I don't care what her reason is for hitting him as a Male you should never hit a women unless she's holding a weapon and your life is in danger. Mixon is a punk and not a real man. Real men don't hit a women for any reason it just makes him look like a coward. No different then Ray Rice or Floyd Mayweather both cowards as well. Mixon's life was never in Danger of this scrawny woman compared to him. I agree on taking a gamble on Cooks or Mixon if they fall far enough but I doubt either is getting out of the 2nd round and to me that's to big of a gamble on guys who keep making horrible off the field decisions. I think Reid and his locker room was strong enough to handle it I'm not sure Doug is just yet.

There's multiple DV cases against him but no one talks about it because of apparently what a great fighter is despite the fact all he does is run away from his fights and wins. He ha Vegas paid off hence why he only fights there. Mixon also threatened to run someone over with his car over a parking ticket. Thats assault with a deadly weapon or threatening too and results in jail time. Everyone has a criteria and that's completely fine. In your case I would understand if you hit that person back. Maybe not agree depending on the severity but I would certainly understand given what happened to you.

I've been in a situation where I've been berated in public. I walked away, didn't hit anybody. I have a stupid friend once got in a verbal altercation, I got in between them and he was in my face telling me to hit him. I could have argued consent in a court of law in that case even . In both cases I felt violence was the worst choice I could have made. It was better to walk away with someone yelling insults at me than to turn around and try to start something.

For non football fans who just read a headline, it won't be near as bad as Vick.  He brought every animal loving non-sports fan's attention to him and was hated on by a LOT of people.

For football fans (especially those who dislike the Eagles), having Mixon would be a field day for them in arguments, signs at games, forums, etc.

There won't be as MANY people hating on Mixon as there was with Vick... not even close.  But the shots fired will be much more intense with Mixon.

Vick at least seems somewhat remorseful, and he was tied into it for financial gain. it doesn't make it anymore right, but to say Mixon is fine compared to what Vick got is short-sighted. I would think organizations like WOAR and any of the local domestic violence places would certainly let others know what they think

Life long Eagles fan with generations of family same, and Vick also made me not a fan anymore (definitely wasn't as interested because like was cited, i couldn't bring myself to root for the guy). I'm not debating what is actually worse or my personal thoughts on it. My only point of discussion is how other people/media will portray this compared to vick. And I'm in agreement with you, that this backlash will be close to as big as it was with vick.

The more i think about it, seeing this kid as possible 1st round pick has me salivating cause if i can bet against that i will do so in a heartbeat. Ray Rice has proven track record, seemed remorseful, and married the woman he KO'd (whole other topic to discuss). I haven't see a ton of Mixon but i watched some highlights the other night when i was looking around, save the draft pick and probably money and i would even take Rice over this kid

We passed on Collins (even though everyone else did too) when we were desperate for ol. Reid was in charge of the vick move.  Don't see Howie doing it unless he free falls to the 3rd round. 

Pretty low?  I'd say they're pretty high actually. We showed last year that character isn't as high on the chart as it was in years past. In addition, you'll have a few teams with him completely off the board which will also increase our odds and we have the RB need. And he's good at RB by all accounts.

That's a huge difference and why I get upset with people. It's like they don't take it seriously unless there is video proof. For example I've had at least 3 friends comeback from the Middle East with horror stories of acts of war crimes from their unit or knowing a cover up just happen and they have to be quite about it or they get shame by our own countries military. People here won't believe it but I have a feeling if there's video proof shown and not classified and put away people would be appalled. Again I'm not going to get into details or specifics but if people here think we don't do stuff overseas we shouldn't do and cover it up for our own gains or others they are truly naive. i was never a fan of the whole "people make mistakes" thing. Reminds me of the born again Christian movement, with the idea i can do whatever i want, and eventually become born again and everything will be fine. 

Anyway, I am curious your thoughts (since you bigboy, unfortunately, seem to have become the spokesman for pro-Mixon) as to a comparison with the Ray Rice situation. If NFL teams barely looked into Rice last year when they had desperate need at RB, why would they take a chane on Mixon. I know most rookies never have better value than they do pre-draft, but if teams steered clear of Rice, i can't figure out why they would spend a draft pick and probably more money on someone who hasn't even shown if he can be effective in the league. I think the situations with Rice and Mixon are comparable

Didn't realize her girlfriend was gay and he had insulted her outside as well. There from the police and investigators side seems to be a lot of he said she said. Friend was called degrading homophobic names so she then called him a derogatory racial name to she started it and he went on with calling her the racial name. From what i originally read thought it all happened inside but since this started outside my suspicion theres way more then what the video showed is confirmed now. This should go over well with a buddy of mine this new info who insists on Drafting Mixon for his talent yet preaches PC movement and accepting others. I don't know what else to say. I'm sure you've done things when you were younger that you shouldn't have. You either learned from them or you didn't. Plain and simple. I don't know if Mixon did or not.

Teams also saw the PR backlash and moved away. These teams are also a business don't want negative PR hurting Business either.

Either way this whole Mixon to Philly draft talk might be a moot point as I've read today the Eagles really like Pitt RB James Conner. Last time Howie was involved in picking up a guy the FO and scouts liked from Pitt became the Teams all time leading rusher in Shady McCoy so theres that.

BGN is reporting tonight we are bringing in RBs Dalvin Cook and Joe Mixon in for pre draft work outs. Boy is their Facebook comment section entertaining to read. Not only do you have the Eagles fans but then you have the Oklahoma Sooner fans who are wearing rose colored glasses absolutely basely defending this guy and then you have other big 12 fans coming in to defend the Sooner guys. Either way some of the defense comments Ive seen are appalling especially the examples they use for why and many don't seem to know the full story of what happened. Figured with us talking about this and then this popped up people would be interested. Doesn't go into too much depth other then mentioning the incidents.

Hey good luck to him.  Who knows what kind of sales job he gives in the interviews and I don't care. Just trying to say he can do it on somebody else's team.  Why take the risk when similar high impact players are available that don't have the baggage?
