*Official 2018 Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles* - Tough way to go out. Magic finally gone. (2 Viewers)

Thinking more and more about the RB usage (specifically sproles) and I think that was more a 1-game only game plan and not something we're going to see the same of moving forward.

- Atlanta gave up the most receptions to RB's last year
- Unlikely ATL game planned very much for Sproles to have that role
- Wet field, wanted Jay to test his footing a bit before throwing him out there

I think we see more Jay and CC next game and less Sproles.

i wish i could live in whatever world some of these guy live in:

#Cowboys Jerry Jones on @1053thefan - ‘I'm very confident that we'll be able to compete with the #Eagles and everyone else in the division.’

I mean i think Jones actually believes this. Would be wonderful to wake up everyday and just absolutely deny reality and think whatever i believe is true. I know this is the culture these days, but sheesh, how can you look in the mirror and knowingly lie to yourself all the time?
Not to get political in here again but there's some guy in the WH that Jerry is good friends with who does this exact same thing daily. Boy what a world we live in these days

I don't think it's that far fetched.  They won the division 2 yeas ago, had a winning record last year even with Elliot suspended 6 games or whatever.  They'll be competitive.  I know hating on them is fun, but they are a good team.  Losing Dez might be addition by subtraction as well.

Tend to agree. There are some delusional Cowboys fans (like the guy who still insists Dak is a better QB prospect then Wentz), but that's not a bottom of the barrel team. They're dangerous and should be respected.

Feel like the Giants and Redskins both might be a bit better then last year as well. Eagles are (and should be) the favorite, but it's not an easy road.

I honestly think outside of Zeke their offensive skilled players stick. Hurns is not a great type of WR for Dax as he's similar to Dez possession guy go up and grab it. Romo was a better fit for Dez because Dak is too afraid and plays safe too much. Which is why I don't see Hurns doing well there. Their defense especially the secondary doesn't scare me one bit and they lost Hitchens this past off season and you can't trust Sean Lee to stay healthy. Their D Line is pretty good and their O-line is still fairly good. I won't go as far to say they will suck but I also don't fear them

Very sloppy game on offense, but they seemed to do just enough to get the win and that is all that matters in the end. By the end of the season people won't be talking about how sloppy the offense looked they will be talking that they are in the playoffs. The key play seemed to be the razzle dazzle pass to Foles as it seemed to energize the team and the fans.

to be honest and objective, i just really have a hard time seeing it. Their OL was prime at that time and they happened to catch a lot of good luck in some of those wins. They were the 5th least injured team last year, yet they feel apart when they had 1-2 injuries. This year already, half of that OL is not 100%, and if we want to get in specifics about the skill positions, take away Ezekiel and Dak and they may have the worst group in the entire league. In fact i think a safe bet is they do.

Defensively, we will see. i am not confident in that secondary. DL will be interesting because potential is there. kicker is a CFL cast-off. i am just not sure what there is on that team that makes you think they will be competitive. I expect them to finish last in the division

I mean, their ELO rating on 538 is 9th in the league.  Projected around 9-7, so slightly above average.  If they end up trading for Earl Thomas (I still think likely), their defense will be pretty good.  I'm not saying they're going to go 14-2 and dominate - but yea, I think they should be above average, which means competitive..  Don't think they fell apart last year - all their losses (except to the Broncos) were to good teams.  Guess we'll see.  We're the reigning world champs, so I'm not going to go trash talking anyone.

yeah to be honest, this isn't trash talking. I would be fine discussing any of the NFC teams (not a ton to take from the game yesterday. Happy to win, and they can play better). I just remember seeing some of their games and there weren't really any of them that i felt impressed by. Think they get smushed by Car, and will be interested when they play NYG and WAS because i think those will be good litmus tests

We played terrible on offense and got a W against a good team while our franchise QB is out buying us more time so we don't have to rush him back, love it!

Yep. That’s a good Atlanta team (arguably top 2-3 in the NFC) playing for revenge, completely  healthy (not a single guy on IR or injury report before the game) without our MVP QB & #1 WR. I’ll take a win like that all day long.

Reminder: for each game this year that Nick Foles plays at least 33% of the snaps, he earns $250K. If Philly wins a game that he plays at least 33% of the snaps, he earns $250K more. Week 1 now has $500K of upside for him.

500k richer after the win

thinking he really wants to win that defensive player of the year. Will be fun all year long
He has all the talent to do so.  That is a good thread and gives a really good look into a lot of the dimensions of his game.  He had a very impressive game last night.

in all honesty, how do you see the NFC East standings go this year? i think we will get:

1. Eagles

2. Giants

3. Redskins

4. Cowboys

and that is being objective. Giants are a bit of a questionmark, but there is no taking away from the impact OBJ can have on a game.

1. Wtf do you expect Jones to say leading up to week 1 of the season? I mean...c'mon

2. I'm sure the Skins, Giants and Cowboys will be fighting for 2nd place.

The Eagles have the best defense in the conference, an MVP at QB when he gets cleared, an All Pro wr coming back when he's healthy, the best coach to ever coach a game in the league, the best home field advantage going, the best backup QB evah....I'm not sure why the league doesn't just crown their asses now and get it over with tbh

I don't see any way wash finishes above dallas this year.  They're the only team that has zero shot at winning the div.  The Carolina game will be a good test for dallas

I knew you’d come around

Tied the number of catches in his first career game as Jason Witten.

Were people expecting a rookie TE in his first ever game to do anything?
I couldn't help but notice the barbs in the Cowboys thread so I thought I'd throw a little jab. Just wanted to get in on the fun. Nothing malicious. I use this forum to share info to fuel a serious hobby, but some good-natured ribbing never hurt anybody. Some of you guys' posts in our forum are actually pretty funny. I look at it as entertainment.

I do like Goedert as a prospect, though. Still thought it was an odd pick, but I'm interested to see how it shakes out.

lol, so football analysis is out the door with you guys? i guess if my options were to talk about the upside of T. Williams i would focus on everything else beside actually talking about the quality of my team

You were surprised by Jones comments right? You made that pretty clear.

Why is that? Are you familiar with how things work in sports?

How did  you expect him to answer the question? Tell me, please

i see it the same as anytime they ask him a question. i wouldn't say i was surprised by what he said, only surprise would be the fact he could pull himself away from some high school age girls to give his thoughts. Hopefully he can tell the whole NFL how everyone should respond to a player kneeling again, because we all need to hear more from him. it is smarter for him to do, rather than more of:

You made a silly post earlier, now you double down and make yourself look just plain foolish.

Have a great evening! ?

:lmao:  i'll give you credit you made me laugh. Yes, i look foolish. Not the 70+ year old guy hanging out with 18-20+ year old females groping them and literally representing all that is wrong with entitled narcissist. But i do agree, enough Dallas talk for now, back to focusing on the team thread we are in

Sproles is still a baller!
yeah, i have to think everyone is happy about that. really hope his body holds up all season, but all the stories this off-season about his past and the work he does  in the communities makes him an even better story. Eagles have done a nice job of forming a team of good people/players. real easy to root for

Mac Hollins was placed on IR yesterday and Trea Sullivan was released today so the team activated Hall and Bradham today.

So you posted making fun of Jones because he said he thinks his team can compete with the mighty Eagles. How dare he say that...right?

Then I ask you " what's he supposed to say in week one of the season?", and your reply is some weird #### about him and young girls?? Really?

How about you answer the question?

ok, we got to wrap this up bud because we are clogging the thread. You want me honest answer? i don't give an F what Jones says. Sure, he can talk his team up great. I am sure the Browns and Bucs probably do the same. You want to drink the kool aid and believe him, great. Easier way to live optimistically and thinking there is always a chance. Just not for me i guess.

How about he just acts like the other 80% of the owners, and just doesn't say anything? Does Lurie need to come out and make a statement to artificially inflate his team? Maybe Jones's does based on the Cowboys' fan-base, so maybe there is something to it. If the Eagles were not a good team, and 8-8 would be a "good" year for them, i would prefer that Lurie not say anything and if he did talk about if the team is rebuilding or what the team needs to get better. Seems like common sense to me. Sure he can lie to everyone and talk about "any given Sunday" crap, and that the world is rainbows and unicorns, but maybe i just prefer to live in reality.

Why doesn't Jones talk about how the Earl Thomas attempts went? talk about why fans should be positive about the team? I mean please tell me which team in the NFL has a weaker WR/TE unit? that is a big question for you.... i honestly don't think there is one. SO there is your answer, if Jones needs to speak please be honest about the team, and discuss some of these manners. Or better yet, don't speak at all

bad break for Tre, but the writing was on the wall after his special teams mishap. Shame cause i didn't think he was the worse, but i don't know a ton about Hall, and maybe he has something to offer

He said what every owner says. Every year. Optimistic thoughts for his team in this upcoming year. There is talent on the Dallas team, no doubt. Questions at OL, WR, TE and in the secondary, but to say you don’t have a shot would cause a ripple effect through the whole team. Does he honestly believe it? Probably. It’s Jerry.

Being completely subjective and removing the “Eagles Fan” in me, it will take a lot for Dallas to win the division. Phillys defense is just on another level, offense is solid (happier when wentz is back) and play calling is spot on. Giants could have a potent offense, but shaky defense.. Like the coaching change. Zeke is a beast, but the rest of that offense is going to need to step up. Same for the defense. Coaching has seemed stale with Garrett the last few years. I don’t know what to make of the skins honestly. defense isn’t horrible, offense has some talent, a possibly rejuvenated ADP... solid coach.. crazy owner.

1. Eagles 10-6

2 Giants 9-7

3 Dallas 8-8

4 Skins 6-10

Now, back to the Eagles please :)

by the way, Cameron Johnson is impressive. I thought it was strange in the off-season they didn't bring in any veteran punter to challenge him, but the guy has a cannon for leg. Not sure he can do coffin corner kicks or anything, but when the Eagles have to punt from their own side of the field i feel ok with Johnson back there

to be honest, i think people in here are underestimating the Skins in here. they had a ton of injuries last year (might have been a point in the season last year when they had 4/5 of their OL out). i think that is what really held them back. here is an article that touches on it (had to make sure i was remembering correctly:  https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/redskins/want-hear-something-ridiculous-add-amount-salaries-redskins-injured-reserve)

and maybe i am giving them too much credit, but i have a hard time not helping the Skins out, and have a tough time letting them fall under .500.

ETA: another article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/injury-ridden-redskins-are-running-out-of-options/2017/10/30/fb073d0e-bd97-11e7-959c-fe2b598d8c00_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.870bda144f8f

and yeah i am happy to talk more Eagles, but next Sunday is sooooooo far away now. And it is the Bucs, don't want to underestimate any team or think the Eagles have it in the bag, but Christ if they lose to the Bucs i don't know what i will think

A Ryan Fitzpatrick led bucs offense at that.. they definitely have talent on offense, but our defense should feast next Sunday. Hopefully we look more like our second half offense from game 1.

Foles just needs to play smart and not turn the ball over. Let the defense and  coaching win the game (which I think he does very well, true team player). I loved his dream run in the playoffs and will forever be grateful for it and his part in our first super bowl. But his stints as a starter aren’t awe inspiring when the game is on his shoulders. Luckily, our team doesn’t force him into that position very often. Leading me to believe he will keep winning. Ugly at times, like the falcons game, but a win is a win.

Excited and nervous for Wentz to return. Make sure he is 100%. We want this guy to hopefully play elite football for us for the next decade. No reason to rush him at all. We kept nick for this specific reason.

So i don't know if it was because they won the SB last year, but this year seems different in terms of checking out guys who were on the team last year and how they look with their new teams. I was jut thinking how i am curious to see how Trey does in Chicago, and will be interesting to see how Vinny and Beau do on the TB DL. Same with Torrey Smith in Carolina. Could be fun Sunday even without the Eagles playing seeing how some of these guys do.

A lot of the variables are different, but these Eagles remind me of the 1998 Broncos, who were the defending champs and had to survive a 5-game stretch with Elway out and Bubby Brister at QB.  And they did it.  I think the Eagles are good enough to do the same, and I have to think that Foles will get coached up to play a lot better here soon.

bit of a chatty Cathy it seems tonight, but one last one for now. It seemed there were a lot of people really turned off with the crowd booing the team last year in the 1st half (don't think i heard any in the 2nd). I didn't think it was a big deal, but seemed quite a few did. Nice article about the players thoughts on it:

https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2018/9/7/17831400/philadelphia-eagles-players-didnt-boos-atlanta-week-1-fans-reaction-falcons-game-crowd-super-bowl

I like Malcom Jenkins' take:

"I was just happy that our crowd booed when they got upset, because i was concerned we would get a little bit spoiled. I was happy they kept their edge".

well said, and i don't think it will be a common thing.

Yes. There were people in this thread that started him last night
Yes but most people in here suggested that other WRs and RBs would pick up the slack which is what happened.  To come in and think DG is not good because of his first nfl game is insane.  At least give a guy 2 years of sucking on a practice squad before throwing him under the bus.
