He also gets 2 bye weeks ?Fun Fact. Tate gets to face the Cowboys THREE times this year.
(He went 8 for 132 and 2TDs in the first game)

Yep. Lucky guy. Only has to play 15 reg season games this year. He should be well rested. He also gets 2 bye weeks ?
that is my problem with the move.Ah okay. Thought you were insinuating that there are bigger holes we should have traded for.
I think Howie is in win now mode. A 3rd can be a good pick but also a dud quite easily. I think there's a chance he re-signs here depending on how he does but I think it's not overly likely. His tweet made it seem like he's pretty excited for Philly though.
tate plays a completely different role than smith. i don't think that he can really stretch the field.Torrey Smith was not a great receiver for the Eagles last year, but he did help stretch the defense which opened things up for Jeffery/Agholor/Ertz and helped the running game as well. If Tate can help do what Smith did, then I think it is worth it.
As for whether the Eagles could have used those resources to help the defense, I don't see a lot of defensive help available. If the Cardinals were willing to trade Patrick Peterson then he might have been the guy I go after but apparently they are not willing to trade him.
With Wentz at the helm, the Eagles are going to have to outscore teams to win it all this year. And when you have a franchise QB, you don't waste chances to go for it all. The division is winnable, and if the Eagles win the division and Wentz continues to play like he has been then the Eagles have a shot. Maybe not a great shot, but a shot.
I don't see why we wouldn't be though. Today's NFL has so much parity and quick turnarounds. It's not the NBA where if you're not one of the contending 3 teams you're a nobody. If you have a shot to win the division, you do it.that is my problem with the move.
If the Eagles get a fourth round pick as compensation in 2020, then the trade is essentially a 2019 3rd round pick for Tate and a 5th round pick (the fourth rounder loses a round of value for being a year later).at the same time, i like tate as a player and the compensatory pick is worth something.
ehh, i don't see it being an issue. Howie can acquire picks pretty good (see last year's trade with Baltimore). they can move guys around and still get picks for them, this will turn into a compensatory pick if it isn't a 1-year contract for Golden, ane they have enough picks next year that not sure how guys will all make the team.that is my problem with the move.
Yep. With the defense playing as it is, and all the weapons on offense, we are likely going to be following the KC "our d can suck as long as our offense outscores them" model.Torrey Smith was not a great receiver for the Eagles last year, but he did help stretch the defense which opened things up for Jeffery/Agholor/Ertz and helped the running game as well. If Tate can help do what Smith did, then I think it is worth it.

Do you think Agholor can if the Eagles moved him outside?tate plays a completely different role than smith. i don't think that he can really stretch the field.
Ya he is more of a slot guy, not a stretch the field guy. We have a lot of slot guys/TE's right now. Luckily that's by far Carson's favourite spot to throw the ball.tate plays a completely different role than smith. i don't think that he can really stretch the field.
my guess is they are confident Wallace will make it back this year with this trade for TateYa he is more of a slot guy, not a stretch the field guy. We have a lot of slot guys/TE's right now. Luckily that's by far Carson's favourite spot to throw the ball.
I'm curious if Tate will play slot or not though? He is capable of playing outside too... likely more than Nelson is.
Not sure that changes much. Wouldn't be surprised if they had Tate play on the outside actually.my guess is they are confident Wallace will make it back this year with this trade for Tate
There really isn't any olonemen out there that can be got and will magically fill in at tackle at an all pro level. I'd imagine they're going to sign some depth off the street and roll with V and Seomalu at tackles till the other guys heal up.I don't really get it though, because this is far from the missing piece. I guess he's hoping they can tread water til Lane gets back and somehow Peters can make it through and Schwartz will work magic on D, but overall not a huge fan.
i'm not convinced of this. i think a lot is being covered by the fact that everything is rosey when you are winning. A slip up here or there and that team has the "dream team" feel to me of getting every name player out there to solidify ticket sales. Working great so far, but something tells me it won't last too long. The fact that team has had such trouble locking up Donald for multiple years is glaring to meIn other news, the Rams just became unstoppable. Great.
Perhaps. But you can't say that adding Fowler to that D-line isn't going to make them better on the field this year.i'm not convinced of this. i think a lot is being covered by the fact that everything is rosey when you are winning. maybe. Fowler had trouble getting on the field in Jax, and it wasn't due to injury. I am sure he can help a bit, but i don't know that he all of a sudden turns his career aroundPerhaps. But you can't say that adding Fowler to that D-line isn't going to make them better on the field this year.
?And just like that they traded for Clinton Dix.
It's been too long since there's been "Clinton Dix" headlines in DC.
Agreed and Roseman can always trade down one of his 2nd rounders to recoup extra picks. The price isn’t heavy when you factor in the comp pick likely to come our way after he leaves. If we get a 4 back in 2020 the deal is practically a wash. We also still have 3 picks in the first 3 rounds (a 1 and two 2’s).
wait, what?need2know said:We get a three back if he doesn't resign. Howie is a god
If Tate doesn't re-sign with the Eagles, Roseman and the Eagles would be in line to receive a third round compensatory pick in 2020. Per the NFL's compensatory pick "formula" (which hasn't been released by the league), a team that loses more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.
This all depends on playing time. If the players a team loses plays more snaps than the players gained, the higher the compensatory picks become. If Tate leaves as a free agent and the Eagles don't sign a wide receiver, the Eagles will get third-round compensation from his snaps with the Eagles and Lions.
that really is a no lose trade. Basically trade for Tate for a 1 year delay on a 3rd round pick. And the Cowboys traded a 1st for Amari ?
He's now a fantasy zero. Cutting him this week. He was already low on the totem pole and only ran 4 yards routes for the most part.dhockster said:Do you think Agholor can if the Eagles moved him outside?
Not really. Not sure why they wouldn’t be doing that already if he could. Not like they couldnt have used it with Jordan, Ertz and goedert on the inside already.dhockster said:Do you think Agholor can if the Eagles moved him outside?
If he walks we get a Comp 3rd if lucky but a 4th for sure. SO we'd recoup the pick in some form anywayFinal year of his contract. He will get paid after this season. Seems like a rental.
Would rather Tate for a 3rd more than DT for a 4th and for sure more than Cooper for a 1st.
As a Wentz owner this makes me very happyFun Fact. Tate gets to face the Cowboys THREE times this year.

Rams making madden trades. Getting a guy in a trade or FA at a position that makes zero sense of them getting one.In other news, the Rams just became unstoppable. Great.
Dunno, I think Avonte Maddox has been solid. If we had him in the Titans game they don't convert 4th and 15, and we are 5-3.On a serious note, he would have actually been a great addition for us.
Never understood this line of thinking...doesn't Belichek scoff at it?If the Eagles get a fourth round pick as compensation in 2020, then the trade is essentially a 2019 3rd round pick for Tate and a 5th round pick (the fourth rounder loses a round of value for being a year later).

While it's true you put off claiming your player another year, you get the same # of years from the player. Depending on roster construction and needs, it could even be preferable at times to defer the pick a year. If it's a high pick (and we assume it will hit), putting that pick off a year might actually INCREASE the value of your other picks that year (presuming a hit on a high pick translates to an extra W or 2).
In the end, conventional wisdom isn't always correct, and I'm pretty sure this might be one of those times. (Now, if you really are one player away with a tight window, it might be worth paying that premium...again it's roster and situation dependent)
I think that is where the premise comes from. If I want your second this year, and you're willing to defer your pick for a year, you would want it to be of higher value to compensate for the deferral, so you ask for a 1st round pick next year. So when the Eagles give up a third next year and in theory, get back a 4th in 2020, that 4th is worth a 5th round pick in 2019 draft capital. It allows you to say the Eagles basically moved down from a 3rd round pick to a 5th round pick in 2019 draft value to get Tate.i have always wondered this too. I can see it some circumstances the logic behind a pick being more valuable this year, and a round higher the next, but it has somehow become a general statement for all circumstances. I would love to trade picks this year for higher picks the next year, particularly in some instances when you will likely have a down year.
Ya I do kind of get behind the future pick being worth less. Is there any GM would would take the exact same pick the following year for that pick this year? I doubt ever. The value of a 2019 2nd is clearly higher than a 2010 2nd (assuming it's the same pick number). Maybe it doesn't drop a full round, and isn't fair to use that, but I think it's the easiest way to put a value on it since it is clearly lower the future year.I think that is where the premise comes from. If I want your second this year, and you're willing to defer your pick for a year, you would want it to be of higher value to compensate for the deferral, so you ask for a 1st round pick next year. Confusing and overanalytical, but that's just me.
"i HAVE PEOPLE SKILLS, DAMMIT!!!!!"
Just got back last night after a 17 hour trip. We saved a ton of money flying through Toronto. If I had to guess, I'd say 40% Eagles fans, 30% Jaguars fans, 30% Englanders just wanting to watch American football. During the week leading up to the game, I saw countless people in Eagles gear all over London. I thought it was going to be 75% Eagles fans in the stadium. Then , while talking to a Londoner, he explained that they don't normally see a lot of Jaguars fans following the team there from the states, but that a lot of native Londoners have adopted the Jags as their home team.
One of my classmates from HS apparently went to the game. Some nice pictures from the game and her trip to London. She met a guy from Scotland here in Philly and now live in Abu Dhabi together so I haven't been able to get much out of her on the trip with the such drastic time differences. Either way sounds like you had a lot of fun despite the injury. My one assistant Store director got hurt 2 days before her trip to London. Some sort of wrist injury but had the wrap off by the time she came back. Sucks getting hurt on a trip or being sick. I wish I had the money and time to go to the game. I would've made it a pretty cool trip. I have Irish friends who if I traveled with could spend time in Bray and then go over to the UK. Would've went to Newcastle for the match there last Saturday then went back to London for the Eagles/Jags. Sounds like Prince Harry and his wife were in Australia for some special olympic type games last weekend? A shame as I was hoping for a Carson/Harry showdown meet up. NFLN didn't even do anything with the game on how much those two look a like either. I know when the Sixers went to London last year or this year for Pre Season CSNPhilly did a picture quiz with locals in London with a pic of Wentz asking people who it was. No shock many said Prince Harry but a few shockingly knew it was Wentz. One guy was from the US and I don't think they knew that when they got him for it to begin with. Notice any big time celebrities or names at gamee? Was shocked NFL didn't span the camera around on possible celeb sightings for the game like they do for the SB. What about sight seeing how much did you do of that?Just got back last night after a 17 hour trip. We saved a ton of money flying through Toronto.
I'd say it was more like 40/20/40, but that's just nitpicking. There were Eagles' fans everywhere I looked, all over the city. I was wearing a Southwest Philly hat and the person in front of me grew up in the same neighborhood, though 20 years earlier.
Fell hard down the steps of the Globe Theatre on Saturday morning taking my wife's pic. I'm pretty sure I tore something in my knee and busted up my wrist pretty bad as well. I almost gave my ticket away to a fan we meet at our hotel that didn't have on because I couldn't put any weight on my leg. Thankfully, as a surprise, my wife's German Godson and his friend meet us in London and basically carried me around Saturday and we got a brace, cane, and then taped up my knee. I was able to hobble around and we got to bypass the long line to get into the stadium. For the record I was not drinking when I fell, but I got loaded afterwards.
It was great attending a game with my Germans. I had them sit on each side of me so I could explain the game to them.
I've been to countless games, but this ranks up in the top 5 for the atmosphere.
I made mental notes of all the different team gear I saw people wearing and can't think of a team I didn't see represented.. even a Browns' guy.
Great Celek story. I meet Jerry Feehery (Eagles o-line mid 80s) and a member of the Eagles' organization sat behind us. It's a funny story, but I'm not allowed to tell it because I was sworn to secrecy.
Anyways 4-4 at the bye and a long hill to climb for the Birds.
