*Official 2018 Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles* - Tough way to go out. Magic finally gone. (1 Viewer)

Agreed.  Bringing up how much money someone earns as a point for/against their right to speak up is quite idiotic.
What's idiotic is many, many people don't even understand what the kneeling is about, or just don't care. Kneeling during the anthem is not unpatriotic. In fact, it's the exact opposite.

My last post on it here in this thread and the SP.

Thanks for completely missing the point.
Guess so.  You said it was idiotic for athletes who make a lot of money to continue to push their political views.  I don't think it's idiotic for someone to stand up for what they believe in, and I think their salary is irrelevant.  Anyways, if you came in here just to make a political statement, perhaps a different forum.

That’s correct.  Their income is derived from a percentage of league revenues, which in turn is generated directly or indirectly from the fans - whom they are increasingly alienating by forcing their political viewpoints upon during entertainment events.  That’s not very bright in a business sense.

The level of their income is only meaningful in as how large is given their occupation, and certainly does not give them any greater expertise in any of the political issues.

Further, as has been addressed ad naseum, the players have no right to protest in a venue provided by the team, in team uniform, during work hours.  The right to protest is provided in the Constitution as protection from the government.

And as to knowing the issues involved, go have a listen to Kaepernick speaking about the issues and how misguided and unknowing he is in many cases about his knowledge.

But you just keep on focusing on the peripheral portions of statements so that you can keep putting forth your brilliantly righteous indignations.

How did the Eagles protest in a team venue during work hours?  Not showing up to the white house is not protesting in a team uniform during work hours. Yet you agreed he should have cancelled their visit because they didn't want to show up outside of work hours, not in uniform.

That's how I feel about the players kneeling.  Use a different forum.

So you are going to disassociate this event from the kneeling for the anthem, despite tying the two together earlier?

And again, read the first paragraph of my response again please.  Pissing fans off with their high profile public non-entertainment related behavior that is tied to the team (and the NFL by association) takes a large risk of deflating league income, which in turn would reduce the slice of the pie going to the players.

Did it make more sense that time?

And yes, when by some accounts only 5 players were going to show up he rightfully canceled.

.

Your point was they shouldn't protest while on the clock. You made that clear.  The Eagles didn't.

Also, I'd be willing to bet that if you polled all nfl fans, not showing up to the White House would be supported by over half of them.  They are not "disrespecting the flag" by not going to meet Trump.

So now youre changing your tune and saying he should have cancelled because some players didn't want to support the president (nothing to do with the anthem, and not on company time)?  They didn't want to go and he pulled the plug to save face. What are you missing here?

Nevermind.  I should have known better that the conversation would go in this direction.  My mistake.  Have a great day.

Looks like there was a presser after all.  Most notably, Doug said Carson is cleared for 7 on 7 drills.
Tweet from Zack Berman:

Biggest news of the press conference was Carson Wentz progressing to 7-on-7. That allows him to work in a controlled environment, Pederson said. ...Eagles are encouraged with his progress. They won't give a timetable, but no one I've talked to has ruled out Wentz's Week 1 goal.

Anyone watch the presser?  Didn't see it but just read some highlights.  They sure are pushing Doug to talk about the visit but he seems completely uninterested and deflected everything well. I don't miss chip.

Definitely positive news. I usually would bet "he won't be ready" anytime coach's say "we won't rule it out" , but doing 7 on 7 already, with 3 months until the season seems pretty darn impressive.

I put his chances of starting week 1 (or 2) at less than 50%, but its positive news and so far no set backs.

Ya you've always been low on his outlook for week 1.  You may be right, but just seems fast for him doing 7 on 7s. I don't know the answer to this, but how long before game action were other qbs with the same injury doing what Carson is doing now?  Would be interested to know.

Just tempering expectations.  I would much rather have him on the field at the end of the season than the beginning.  But definitely encouraging news.

For anyone not following the OTA live updates, De'Vante Bausby seems to be the day's standout.

Goedert getting a lot of RZ work and looking good. (yes, its OTAs and no one's in pads).

this is the most appalling thing about the whole issue, and it is really depressing. But I am afraid this is the world we live in now where significant portion of the population needs to be told what to think. see tons of passion against it, but then absolutely no thought process behind why it is. I am glad some people in the media are still out there telling the story about the meaning behind why Kap was kneeling, but if people don't know now, they never will.

Our country is a clusterF, but Eagles are Super Bowl Champs so we are all good here

yeah, we got a long way to go.......

all I care about for now is no injuries. Alshon can drop 80% of his passes, but as long as no injury we can figure it out in July-August

Its a very slow day here at work so I've been following the live twitter feeds.  Can't wait for football again.  :football:

The players continue to bite the hand that feeds them - and I’m not talking about Trump.  It’s just blatant idiocy for people who garner ridiculous levels of pay for entertaining large masses to continue to wantonly push political views that many just don’t want to hear.

And for Pete’s sake, can’t Trump just shut the **** up for once?  Yeah, cancel the event - I agree with that.  But just stop with the sophomoric rhetoric already.  You made your point.  Let it speak for itself.
You're not listening

Thank you for clarifying what #45 has been saying for several years now -- Profits matter most.  Everything else, including the constitution, is secondary!

another good gem from the SB celebration at the White House. a reporter was walking around asking people at "the Birds" and everyone kept asking what he meant, like the birds in the trees?

some good stuff there

The white House thing was such a non story to me. Some people were complaining "I've waited my whole life for my team to go to the White House. They need to go." Really random due from Northeast Philly? I've waited my whole life for the parade. I couldnt care less about the white House.

lol, seriously. i never even thought about them going, hell didn't even knew they went until a few years ago. and never thought about it until SB loser Brady made a big deal of not going when Obama was in office. the news push that "Eagles let their fans down" is great too. if they are skipping practices i care more than if they are going on a field trip

i do like some of the comedy with it, imagine going to tailgate at a game asking people "how about the Birds" and some dude starts talking about the pigeons. hell, go to any store and everybody knows

Are you serious about the White House thing?  I honestly can't imagine how any single fan could give 2 craps about that (regardless of who the president is).

There were some old heads calling in to the stations saying this. Their intentions pretty obvious more to do with anti players kneeling and less to do with the white house.

I feel like he's probably pretty damn happy with the new rule.  It's pretty pro-what he wants.
The sad part is it has nothing to do with the Anthem. It's just him playing on his supporters feelings. heck On Memorial Day Benjamin Albright wrote something about how Trump's Memorial Day tweet was disgusting and how he was embarrassed as a veteran who did 2-3 tours of Iraq and 2 in Afghanistan. How quickly the Pro Support the Vet people change their views of who is respected troops wise when the Veterans don't agree with their narrative. Some of the comments being made were downright dispicable. I actually mentioned too two of the tweeters this isn't supporting the troops like you claim harassing a veteran with a different POV then you but hey thanks for proving how many frauds there on on the whole this is about the troops campaign on this. They were stepping over their own two feet trying to defend themselves. Also anyone who knows football knows this whole Anthem protest is nothing more then Little baby Donny Throwing a temper tantrum because he couldn't own an NFL team and blames them for the USFL going bankrupt. No different then why he hates Mexico. He had a Miss Universe deal for Monterey or Mexico City that fell through and in 2011 or so tried to build a real estate vacation resort in the West Coast of Mexico in the Monte Carlo region. He pocketed over $34M from other investors before canceling the project and claimed he was only supporting it name alone. He lost both court appearances which is why he's so H**l bent on destroying Mexico.

So Ive been away for the week so of coarse I missed the whole White House Fiasco. It was a pretty embarrassing display by Trump and CO honestly. Holds a event to honor America and doesn't even know all the words. I also read and one intern admitted as much to Philly.com that most of the people at the Honor of America thing replacing the Eagles were White House Interns so basically paid people to stand out there which is why the people the guy interviewed didn't know who Nick Roles was. Also Props to the guy who knelt and as they say "Not all heroes wear caps". According to Eagles Wire trump didn't cancel the White House visit do to the amount showing up but because he got wind of Jeffrey Luries comments from owners meeting about what "an F Disaster this administration is" and got all butt hurt. I sure the rest didn't help about a majority not going but Trump then tried to spin the whole thing of the Team letting the fans down which is BS. Also Personal Foul Fox News Targeting Penalty. What a joke they are running a story about the Eagles and showing them praying and saying they knelt during the Anthem when many journalist said not one player knelt this year on the team. They got a storm of people going after them and they deleted the segment off their social accounts but only apologized online. Sorry but I want a full apology on air from the President of Fox News. Theres now people out there who think Eagle players actually knelt during the anthem which is factually wrong. Honestly if these players start receiving death threats and such they can legally sue the station for Defamation and other things. Not everyone has socially media which is why an on air apology is needed. Either way props to the Eagles how they handled it on Wednesday. Doug basically gave no aknologement to Trump which is one of the best things to do to him and Malcom Jenkins was on fire with the signs. Overall very happy how this whole thing ended. I think do to all of this the Eagles have gained a lot of new supporters who would've hated the team just because of being from Philly and Trump still embarrassed himself again.

I'm moving on from politics to football, but just wanted to correct the record. Shannon Bream did apologize on-air. The statement from the pres of Fox  News was also broadly covered in the press. (Just offering info, not a defense.)

So one of my two highlights this the past 3 days (Today my cousin is taking me to my first Def Leppard concert as an early Bday gift) was I got to see Kenny Chesney for the first time in my life on Saturday. Chesney's music has been huge part of my life for yrs and a lot of my friends now liking him is because of me. Funny how this was my first show and a few of the people I got into him this is like their 7th or 8th show now. Anyway The people I was going to go with weren't going this year because they had a wedding that day. So I had a few friends of mine already going searching for a ticket for me either near them same sec at the least. Well it got desperate and I told them I'll take any ticket you can get me at this point. Well I got a phone call from one friend saying there was a guy on the Kenny Facebook event page saying he had a $300 floor seat available for FREE and didn't want it to go to waste. A friend had DM the guy already to keep the ticket. We found him and the dude was absolutely bombed. He gave both his tickets to me and one of my closer friends took the other ticket and we gave his ticket to another guy. Anyway we had Row 2 tickets in Sec F which was awesome. Probably no further then 20-30 yards from the stage. Behind us in the lower section near where the visiting team comes out a huge Eagles chant broke out after Thomas Rhett went on. Big Balls Doug was in the building leading them. Rhett wore Kelly Green 75h anniversary Cunningham jersey he gave to a little girl in the crowd at one point. His drummer is a Toronto native and big time Hockey fan who had a Flyers shirt on. Anyway Kenny came on and it was awesome. I got to see David Lee Murphy too who is one of my all time favorite old school 90s acts as they did three songs together. To describe Kenny Chesney concert it's not a country show in the least. It's More of Skynrd mixed with Def Leppard and other bands of that sort.

Before he played his song "Boys of Fall" which is appropriately about Football he dedicated the Song to the Eagles who gave $25K to the Kenny Chesney Live foundation that benefits Hurricane relief victims in the Islands that he is so passionate about and has a house in St Martins. At the end of the Song Jeffrey Lurie/Doug/CarsonW Wentz/Jake Elliot with an awesome Cowboy Hat/Joe Walker/Brandon Brooks/Sidney Jones and Greg Ward came out with the Vince Lombardi Trophy. It was awesome. There was a lot of cheering but I could definitely see people getting all teary eyed as well. There was an Eagles helmet on stage everyone signed while the band kept playing and they gave it to the Girl with the Cunningham Jersey Rhett had and brought her up on stage for pics and all. After the show ended wihen everyone left huge Eagles chants broke out and the fight song. We even had a few No One Likes us chants out. To say anyone is tired about the Eagles winning the SB 4 months later is a complete lie. This City isn't gonna let anyone forget who won the SB this year thats for sure and no one can damper that.

I never saw anything on the on air apology. I must have missed it. I just found it and happened the next night. For me a little too late. Should've happened right after they deleted the segment and it should've came directly from the President of the company. The statement I just saw was nothing more then brow beating typical "Oh you caught us messing up intentionally here's an apology hope your happy". There needs to be more to it. We apologize for airing a segment yesterday that misrepresenting the Philadelphia Eagles. We said players knelt but now to our knowledge non of the players knelt during the Anthem all year. We hold our broadcasters and everyone involved here to higher standards etc etc. The statement there is nothing more then your typical BS company apology they send out. Either way I'm done with it. Just more so wanted to put my thoughts out there after missing the week thats all.
