I was just thinking thank god so few teams are technically gifted enough to do tiki taka.

It some times feels like the style is more designed to stop the other team from scoring than to help your own team score.

They should be afraid of the counter.  Russia has some really fast players.  Jordi Alba was getting outrun earlier, that rarely happens. This is the problem with thinking Spain should just put in wild crosses or start taking on people with the dribble.  If you are pushed up too far you can easily get countered on.  Breaking down a well organized defense is hard to do with any style.

I can understand when a huge under dog has to park the bus, but I just can't forgive a team that is technically better at every single position on the field that won't have some urgency to score.

Spain has played this game like they are winning 5-0.

Yeah - it’s been pretty horrible to watch.  At least there’s drama with it being a knockout.

 
They need another forward who makes some runs.  I’d take off Asensio or Busquets (doubt they want to give up the 2 D-mids though).

 
While Spain losing on penalties would be a deserved result for their ineffectiveness, Russia winning on penalties wouldn't be deserved since their best attack was 'have Pique spaz out in the box and handle the ball'

It is designed to do that.  And to win it back quickly when you do lose it.

I love Tiki-Taka and think Barca's teams from a few years ago are the best soccer I've ever seen.  But playing that way does require the ability to play several quick touches in space to unlock the D.  This Spanish team hasn't shown they can do it.

They need Messi

 
There's another example of why I don't like VAR.  Free kick into the box, plenty of normal hand-fighting and grabbing, and half the Spain team immediately assaults the ref asking for a VAR review, and then the game stalls for a minute while the ref listens to his earpiece.

 
Ramos is such a #####.  Should have been booked there.

The Russian player wasn't doing anything, but Ramos spun himself around to make it look like he was being pulled.
