*Official 2019 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* - Season's over; Go Away Now... (2 Viewers)

Am I the only one who wouldn’t be shocked if Wentz retired early as well?
there might be something to that, though i think that Luck maybe has some other interests outside of football, whereas wentz seems like he's just a football player.  i certainly don't blame luck at all and think he gave everything he had, but just seems like on the surface, they are a little different.  obviously if wentz keeps getting hurt every year, there could be something to it.

Wentz loves football too much and beside, I like I think he has wised up on being diligent in health preservation.  And Eagles' OL is one of highly ranked in NFL.  Eagles are too smart not to surround him with crappy OL.

Luck has interest outside of Football and he just lost the love of the game. Wentz is a football purest in the dude eats, sleeps thinks about the game almost 24/7 model. Luck has  had a lot of injuries and I'm sure the mental aspect took a huge toll on him. Now if Wentz keeps getting hurt at the point Luck is there might be issues but then again Big Ben and Brett Favre both had some wicked injuries over the yrs and kept playing. Maybe from the mental stand point he just wasn't mentally there anymore. I know when I started getting my elbow issues and knee hip pain from Baseball and all when I was younger it took a toll on me not just physically as it even effected me doing my job at work but a mental aspect as well. Playing ball just wasn't fun anymore and having to worry about the PT and exercises I had to do before and after games just to keep on playing wore me out and made me like playing less. I'm no Pro ball player but the injuries are as much taxing mentally as they are physically

Eagles homers, how do you see the WR playing time shaking out this season?  What sets do the Eagles primarily run and who will be the WR's in those 2 or 3 WR packages?   To be honest I want nothing to do with Alshon at his ADP, but I do feel like Desean can be a steal this year with where you can get him in drafts.   Any thoughts on those two along with Agholar and JJAW?  TIA!

Imo its gonna get spread out alot.  Not sure one wr can be counted on every week.

Yeah, that’s the fear.  Any idea what kind of snap count DJax will be in for on most games?  I assume he’s not going to be a fixture in 2 WR sets, is he?  If not that surely limits him.  Just not sure what % of snaps the Eagles run 3+ WRs on.

IMO, the most common 3 WR sets will be Jeffery, Jackson, Agholor with Ertz at TE. I think JJAW will rotate in for Agholor  - maybe particularly in the red zone.  12 personnel will be Jeffery & Jackson on the outside with Ertz & Goedert.

I feel like the Eagles offense will be really good but locking in week to week on who will be the top players (other than Ertz) is going to take some real skill.

I think they are going to be smart with Jackson's snap counts, to keep him healthy and fresh. I could see Agholor frequently moving from the slot to the outside, opposite Jeffery,  in 12.

They run a lot of 12, so it wouldn't surprise me if they want DJax on the field given that he's the only deep threat.  They know that they need a lot more spacing, so I wouldn't be surprised if Jeffery and Jackson are their base set.  I think that Agholor's slot reps get eaten up more by the TEs and then JJAW takes some of that when they get down in the red zone.  Whereas a lot of the other receivers have some overlap, DJax is really unique.  So that's my off the cuff sense of it, honestly.

So...we Clowney around with Houston or what?
I don't see it happening. The Texans would want Peters or Dillard and I don't see the Eagles giving either of them up. I don't see the Texans just settling for one of the Eagles back-up running backs. Maybe if we gave them a running back and a draft pick something gets done, but I think the Texans are better off waiting for Clowney to report and play this year, then trade him in the off-season when teams can then sign him to a long term deal. That expands the number of teams that can trade for him, and therefore they will get higher compensation because there is a bigger market for him. The Texans really screwed their ability to trade him this year by not doing it before July 15th. Most teams don't have $16 million in cap space to play with at this point of the offseason, which is what Clowney's cap hit will be.

I agree, don't see the Eagles making a trade.  Probably Hawks, Phins, or nothing.

Shefter didn't seem to think it would be that expensive. Like Clement and a 3rd or Mialata and a pick, maybe Agholor and a pick. And by pick it would be less than a 2nd.

Which is why it doesn't make sense for the Texans. They could keep him this year, and possibly get a 1st round pick for him next offseason. By doing a trade now the Texans would be losing value off of their trade and would not have his services this season. Now the Texans won't have Clowney's services this season if he doesn't report, but I think he has $16 million reasons to report, so I do think he will play this season.

I don't know how connected or relaible Howard Eskin is. But he implied this morning that he has info that Eagles don't think he's the kind of player they'd want here or is a fit with locker room.

Can't stand the guy, but he's definitely connected and what he said certainly makes sense.

If he’s accurate, that’s good enough for me. I trust Lurie, Howie and DP’s judgement more than any other front office in this city in my lifetime.

Howard is very well connect and I'd still take him on radio over most of the hacks today doing Philly sports talk

Well that was an exciting game tonight.  Thorson back to looking awful again.  Get that dude outta here.

Decent amount of playing time for Smallwood, Adams, Pump, and Scott.  Not sure which of those 4 is gonna make it, but no one looked that impressive.

Saw a projection from one of the Philly writers yesterday that none of those 4 would make it.

Or, was he? Maybe they told him to go out there, play his worst, and then they can get him on the PS 😉

I don't think anyone has any interest in this guy on their final roster.  No one wants to develop an average qb at best with a week before the season starts.

Maybe the Broncos will cut Rypien and we can sign him to be our 3rd until Nate is back.

it is a hard one to predict. Wentz certainly didn't focus on Alshon last year and there were rumblings about some discontent early in the off-season. He could focus on Alshon, but i think he spreads it around. If for fantasy sake, going with the cheaper option makes sense. He threw a ton to DJax all off-season and those 2 seem to be hitting almost everything. I doubt DJax has big numbers every week, but he will have some nice weeks

ETA: and yeah, they ran 12-man set (2 TE's) about 42% of the time last year, most by far out of anybody in the league. they have talked about going to it even more, so i am not sure there will be many 3 WR sets going

props to you buddy for watching that one. Pretty sure Smallwood and Adams are toast

would love to hear why they traded for Eli Harold a few weeks ago. guess they just wanted a body for camp?
traded a guy they knew wasnt gonna make it just in case?

It's a little concerning all the mid level picks lately that aren't even making the team. Pumphrey , Gibson, maybe Hollins, Miller, Thorson - a lot of 4th/5th rounders in the last few years not working out. Now that we're paying Wentz premium bucks we need to hit on some of those.

The only positions I’d draft in rounds 4-6 would be interior OL, LB and S. Every year. Every other position seems to be a waste of a pick.

Would've been nice to not draft Miller and taking Gardner-Johnson or Deonte Thompson at Safety over that. That would've made more sense considering the depth we had and have at the DE.

Who McCoy?  We dont really need him
Character probably not a good fit in the locker room either. DeSean was Brough back not just because he fit what we needed but was not in any legal trouble while away. Meanwhile Shady has declined bi time, more off the field issues and when's the last time he wasn't hurt haf the year? he's going to want to go somewhere to start too

J Matt cut by 49ers which hurts the comp picks

Sue Opeta was cut from the team

Boston Scott was cut team could have interest if he clears waivers as a practice squad

Alex Singleton was cut but both team and player have interest in a PS for him. Alex could accept as he's 1 LB injury from being on the active roster

Wendall Smallwood cut. According to Rap per a source was more of a numbers game victim then anything else. Treyvon Hester is now gone too
