*Official 2019 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* - Season's over; Go Away Now... (1 Viewer)

I'm ready now but the stupid IR rule is keeping me out till the week after  :wall:
A very stupid rule.  They should get rid of all the I.R. and PUP stuff.  If you are on the team, if you count against the salary cap you should be able to return whenever.  I would go one further.  I would have no roster limits, just salary cap limits.  That would allow for more innovative coaching.

It would but it would also lead to teams holding guys they won't use. It would make FA less fun too.

Who knows how it would play out.  I think it would be interesting.  Some teams would roster 60 guys, some teams maybe only 45. Some teams would have sub packages upon sub packages, and others nothing but high paid stars.  In the end you are correct that the rules were intended to keep teams from stock piling or hiding players, but the salary cap takes care of that, in my estimation.  Could I be wrong?  Well that is the smart way to bet.  I just think it would be interesting and in the interest of the fans and of players with incentive clauses in their contracts.

I'm by no means opposed to the idea. I think I'd honestly cap how many players at a position you could have at any point during the year. Expand it for offseason and pre season and then have a set limit come Regular season. I think the IR is abused as well by teams to keep or protect guys they don't want to expose to waivers who maybe picked up and want to keep. Similar to baseball abusing the 60 day DL and other DLs. I remember awhile ago given SF Giants couldn't trade Pitcher Barry Zito given his enormous contract and sucking they gave him a fake injury designation or sugar coated how bad an initial injury was to get him off the roster. Kept him there the rest of the year. So its not like these IRs ain't exposed and used to horde players It would help IMHO of keeping players more healthy. I've seen roster expansion suggested before and like the idea. Given the violent nature of the sport I wouldn't be opposed to expanded rosters.

Well we have Shanahan turning around his record, dramatically.  We have LaFlueur getting 13 wins as a first year coach.  We have Tomlin holding together his team with all of their challenges and injuries, and we have Harbaugh remaking himself and his team.  Lots of interesting candidates, including Peterson, no question.
Doug won't even get a single vote.

Crazy, we've been underdogs in ALL 6 playoff games Doug has coached.

vs Atlanta- Win
vs Minny- Win
vs New England- Win
vs Chicago- Win
vs New Orleans- Loss
vs Seattle- ?

I mean Doug did a good job the past few weeks but he's not close to coach of the year. If you credit him for the wins you gotta dock him for losses to Miami, Detroit, etc.. Glad they righted the ship, but he let it take on all that water.

maybe coach of the month...

Not sure how much of the MIA loss I'd put on Doug though. That defense surely didn't do its job and that's on Schwartz. I know I'm biased here but watching the Orange Bowl and watching Florida play under Todd Grantham that was some incredible fierce Defense and very aggressive. Dude is up 11 and is still bringing the house on Blitzes. You saw guys even after making an initial stop trying to rip the ball out of the ball carriers hands. This Eagles defense is beyond soft. I'd still get rid of Schwartz after the season. You aren't getting Grantham right now but someone similar to that or Jim Johnson is what these guys need. Someone mentioned how pissed off Schwartz looked after the Barkley run and how the defense did better after that (almost defending Schwartz). I clapped back with yeah thats cool but I wish he'd have this emotion the entire time he was here. We all hear how aggressive JS is on defense yet actions speak louder than words.

Should the offense scored more or moved the ball more in the 2nd half in MIA? Absolutely but I would hope against MIA a NFL Defense could hold a lead which they did not

Doug is the HC, not the OC.

   I'd be quite surprised if he even got a single vote.  He got 1 of 50 votes in the year that everyone said he got screwed.  Shanny is very deserving.

Not playoff related but since the Seahawks are going to Philadelphia, I figured it might be time for a story.

The year is 1989. The Eagles are opening at home with a late game against Seattle. At the time I had graduated from college and worked as a computer programmer for the Philadelphia Police department ( civil service job).

A buddy of mine had season tickets and he'd take me to a few games a year. I'd generally pay him back in food beer etc. Our general routine was to meet at a 7-11 in lower NE Philly, load up coolers, mix up containers of "punch" and head to the Vet when a lot of people were heading to Mass still. This was a late game so we pushed our departure back by a good 30 minutes.

So we roll into one of the lots by the old JFK stadium as they opened and set up on the Broad Street side, but we were early enough to get a spot away from the street.  We're tailgating for several hours and there's a commotion amongst the tailgating groups. it's probably 2 PM or so and traffic on Broad heading North from the I95 exit to the Vet is at a crawl.

The murmur in the crowd is because there is a very nice tour bus full of Seattle fans with a Seahawks flag on the side stuck in traffic. The normal shouts and hand gestures occur.  I make my way closer to the street. I look around and don't see any cops. I dash out into the street and tear the Seahawks flag off the side of the bus and twirl it around my head and start heading back to my group with my captured prize.

My triumph is short lived however as i try to make it through the other groups.  Next thing i know someone has grabbed the flag out of my hand from behind.  Before I could protest he has a zippo cigarette lighter in one hand set to flame thrower and his buddy has a can of lighter fluid. As the flag is torched, I look back to the bus and see the horrified Seahawks fans wondering what exactly they've gotten themselves into.

I cant tell you much about the game except the Eagles won big and I think Dave Krieg got knocked out.

But whenever I see the Seahawks logo, I can vividly remember the flag incident.

Sounds like a fun time and something that would get you put in the slammer now to sober up during a tailgate

Congrats Eagles fans. Your team wanted it more. I can't even defend my awful Cowboys. Thought we were at least gonna get a new coach out of the loss.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and good luck to you guys.

Sanders missed practice again today.  Expected to get a ;limited one in tomorrow and thinks he will play on Sunday, but he's gonna be hurting.

Probably still will. I think JJ is just waiting out Garrett's contract. Supposedly ends on the 13th. Then he doesn't have to fire him. Just let his contract expire.

Good feeling about the first 58 minutes of this game.  It's the 59th and 60th minute playing against Wilson that worries me.  Eagles could play just about perfect and that guy will beat them.

I'm confident even with the injuries. Being at that last game vs SEA it was only 2 plays that beat us the trick play and the big Run. SEA is down to a 4th string RB and brought Lynch out of retirement (How physically fit is he to even play), and their offense is entirely off of Wilson. Their Offensive Line is absolute garbage so any sense of pressure should help our DBs. Our offense doesn't turn the ball over a few times the offense is alive a bit we beat them last game. Protect the ball Offense scores a few more pts and contain Wilson and we win. Sea is more beat up in terms of Key players out then we are. I believe their top Offensive line players on an already shaky line are done for the year too. We also contained Josh Gordon last game who we won' have to worry about now either

Clark says Ertz has a very high chance of playing Sunday. Higher than Lane. Lane wants to play but still feeling effects.

Anyone looking to go to the game? I've got an extra pair of lower level (25yd line) tix, slightly above face.  Sold!

I think I got 2 buddies interested, you still got them?

in 2017, the Eagles rallying cry was the cool but grammatically abhorrent "We all we got, we all we need."
They just put out a hype video with Carli Lloyd narrating titled "Now is all we need."

Not sure whether to be happy that the grammar has improved or worry that they're just trying to win on WildCard Weekend.

Ertz and Sanders expected to play.

In other news Agholar still out, lol.
He's done he played his last game in Philly. Something tells me he might be one of the rats making comments too. Knee is more or less to excuse him from playing but to put him on IR would just cause an NFLPA issue. I expect him to go elsewhere next year and start talking #### on us too.

‪Zach Ertz has been medically cleared to play tomorrow, according to our @therealdgunncsn
.
‪I’m told he had a small or very small cut on his kidney and has healed quickly‬
.
‪He’s been wearing a flak jacket at practices‬
.
‪#Eagles ‬

He's a beast. If he ain't bleeding he's playing.
he is bleeding, you just won't see it on the outside...

though i guess they never officially confirmed the lacerated kidney.  SEA is terrible against TE, so if he can do anything, it could make a  big difference.

i am glad that we are playing last this weekend.  even though i don't really have any expectations of a win, it would still put a damper on the other games for me
