*Official 2020 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* Humanity will never recover from the most horrible event to happen in the last 100 years: Doug Pederson pla (3 Viewers)

Wish there was a crowd there today. I would've loved to have heard them as the punt team ran out onto the field.
Dear god. The full throat boo from 65k fans would have echoed through the city.

Followed by the after chant of "You're a ::Kitty Cat::"

That was some of the most pathetic play calling I've ever seen so close to FG range. Don't even try and get 5 yards.
When ertz caught that nice pass from wentz they were all celebrating like they won the game.   I was thinking you need another 15 to 20 yards you idiots.    Then they went backwards.    Just a total crap performance by a bottom 5 team

The play calling in the final 1:30 of OT from midfield was honestly some of the worst I’ve ever seen. I still can’t wrap my head around it. They got to the outer limit of Elliot’s range and then.. stopped?

Exactly and its something they need to hear. Play call and everything else aside they  look as lifeless as the cardboard cutouts.

I wonder if Doug goes for it if the place was packed?

Which conversation do we need to have at this point:

  • Wentz has the yips, ala Chuck Knoblauch, Markelle Fultz, Rich Ankiel, Nick Anderson, etc.
  • The Wentz haters weren't haters; they were just able to see the emperor had no clothes

We always seem to have issues with the Bengals and now the sinking ship we're on this year makes it likely to continue.

  • All-time record against Cincy: 3-9-1
  • Last time we beat them: Christmas Eve, 2000 (16-7)
  • Last 3 games against them: Worst game of our 2016 season (32-14 L, Ertz scared kitty cat play), 34-13 whipping in 2012 in one of Andy's final games, 13-13 tie in 2008 (McNabb not knowing the OT rules)
:kicksrock:

Looking ahead to Week 6 against the Ravens, we've played them 5 times with 2 of those games being decided by 1 point and 1 of them being, yes, a tie (2-2-1 overall.) That's a game where a tie will actually be an accomplishment because we'll probably be 10-point home dogs.

The Jalen Hurts pick:

- Potentially caused the franchise QB you just extended to panic
- Made you pass up on at the minimum a handful of rookies that are already impressing that would be starting right now for the Eagles
- Caused massive media/fan hysteria to bench franchise QB

🤷🏼‍♂️

Middle point is the only valid one.

If a 100 million dollar QB that just got handed a huge extension panics because of a 2nd round rookie - he's not emotionally able to handle the NFL.  And Hurts is causing fans to call for Wentz benching. His horrible play is. It's not even just the ints - he's missing reads, constantly throwing behind receivers to make what should be a catch an run and incomplete or a 2 yard gain, etc... Footwork horrible, he's doing odd jump passes all the time causing accuracy to be way off.

Why do you believe Jalen Hurts is a franchise QB? I’ve watched him in college, read most likely every scouting report there was on him. I’m curious what you see to say that?

The 3rd does as well. We kept the door cracked open for these questions as soon as we picked him. The QB swapping noise started as early as week 2. It’s here to stay.

For the record this was a tweet I copied and pasted but for the most part I agree with it. I don’t know Wentz we’ll enough to know if he’s that fragile or not. I do know the organization has not shown typical commitment you get when you give a QB 100 million either. Constantly having to look over your shoulder, combined with EXACTLY what you’re seeing in the media now and playing here is not an ideal situation.

I haven’t watched him enough to form an opinion on that.  But if your organization thinks he has that potential, coupled with any concerns about Wentz (namely durability I would think after the massive extension but he’s giving reason for much greater concern), then spending a late 2nd on him isn’t that egregious.  I’d love to have him as an option behind Cousins right now on an equally brutal Vikings team.

Lets just say Wentz is headed to the Pit of Misery, would you trust the same staff and weapons to bring Hurts along that just F'd Wentz?

The problem is lately our organization doesn't think.  Taking a QB that early, playing here, with this media is about as unaware as you can be.  I have no idea in what universe they even thought this wouldn't be an issue.

As a former college safety he was supposed to be the ideal coverage LB in Schwartz's defense 🙄
And just think...we drafted a LBer in the 3rd round who they believe is worse than him lol

Totally get that the leadership of the organization may be (is?) inept.  But why do you assume this to be the case?  After handing Wentz an extension last year, do you think there’s a chance they started to have serious concerns about him after his play last season?  And decided to pull the trigger on a safety net just to be safe?  With how Wentz has played through three games there positively remains a chance that it was the right decision.  Now, Green Bay on the other hand...

There's too many examples for me to think otherwise.  They refuse to part ways with aging players when it's obvious to the naked eye they should be gone.  Look at Sproles or Peters for examples.  They have missed draft picks in MAJOR ways by passing on good players while getting ZERO in return from the picks we used. Just look at JJAW.  Look at Gerry's stats and think we drafted a LBer in the 3rd that can't see the field.  We just give away picks with deals like Golden Tate and Gerard Avery.  We have a QB who played at an MVP level and ironically declined after losing DeFillipo and Reich and replacing them with inexperienced coaches just because they were already on the staff.  We actually don't have an OC now lol.  We replace medical staffs every year and still have injury issues.  Where else would you like me to mention?

And Wentz played well last season all things considered in my opinion. He had a freak injury after Clowney hit him and was entering his first off-season without any significant injury or rehab.  There was no need to pick a QB and to justify it we said we were creating a QB factory.  We actually said that out loud.

GB's situation is understandable.  You have a 36 year old QB and they can get out of his deal after 2021 right before he's 38.

Howie gotta go. Math his math, there are other guys that figure out a salary cap, if that is your best attribute. Nothing ever normal when we play the Bengals ever.

Howie needs to not be the decider on personnel decisions. I get he supposedly can structure contracts well, but the litany of bad choices have really added up. There's not even a good way out next year.

Alshon and DeSean extensions were unneeded and ludicrous, and cost us a shot at some decent WR talent in FA this year. Didn't need to extend Wentz - let him play on his 5th year. You can franchise him if you need after - you had time. The guy had already shown signs of not being the top level talent he looked like in 2017 - why commit so much money until he showed he deserved it?

Next year is going to be so bad too. That "Howie is a genius with the cap" means he keeps pushing cap hit money into future years. Next year is Brandon Graham's next year - but if we cut him, we take a 17 mil cap hit because his contracts was spread out to 2024. He does that a lot - but eventually that adds up and the piper has to get paid...

Agree w most of this other than letting Carson play his deal out. He looks not great this year, but it's not like we would get a significant discount signing him after THIS YEAR, assuming it will be a "down" year. Hindsight and all, going into a cap-shrinking 2021, no way.

But Howie has got to go. Period. Doug needs to hire another coach that can challenge him.

Jackson will test the hammy and is undergoing tests. He’s questionable for this week

Goedert sounds like he has a high ankle sprain and will miss a few weeks

Yay

At face value, sure.  But when you’re a game from the SB and fielding a team that’s this close, you don’t burn a 1st on a purely developmental QB prospect and a 2nd on a third string RB while planning for two years down the road when you no longer want your 38 year old QB and want to avoid paying your star RB.  I digress, but that’s idiocy defined.  You play to win Super Bowls and Rodgers with the team assembled had at least half a chance.  That’s when you invest your draft capital to get you over the hump.  Maybe Love will prove that to be a great move, just like Rodgers did.  Fees like two entirely different prospects though.

Im not an expert on GB and their situation I was just giving an outsiders point of view.  The Love pick was more shocking IMO was because it signaled the end of Rogders' time in GB

GB is also 3-0 and scoring a ton of points so I'm not seeing this as a setback either

I honestly can't remember the last time we had a stud LB that played most of the season (Hicks always hurt). Who was the last stud LB we had? Stuart Bradley?
Seth Joyner was probably the best LBer we have had and I can't recall how he was considered around the league. Maybe Trotter after him for a short time and a one-legged Demico Ryans

Mailata better freaking start this week.
Agreed.

nice job on thread title again Noid.

Yeah im wondering what Doug is gonna call his next book.....last one was fearless.   Maybe gutless?  pointless?  so many great ones to choose from

He knew what he was doing. Get that book deal while he can before this all collapses like a house of cards.
