*Official 2020 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* Humanity will never recover from the most horrible event to happen in the last 100 years: Doug Pederson pla (1 Viewer)

As far as I know Andy never relinquished his position and in 2012 was still the executive Vice President of football operations which is the GM. Maybe Howie assisted but it was Andy’s draft from what his title suggests.

Chip also had final say ever since he was an Eagle. From the time he was there he had control over the roster which also essentially made him the GM.

That’s how I remember it anyway
At the PC announcing Reid’s firing, Lurie said the 2012 draft was Howie and the (terrible) 2011 draft was someone else - which had to be Reid or Banner.

I recall them saying the trades were Howie. Saying the way he navigated the draft bouncing around was impressive. I can’t recall who but they at the time they said Howie did all the positioning and Reid made the picks. I can’t find it now though so I may be misremembering.

A Carson Wentz argument From fan Andrew McEleny:

“Life for Carson Wentz in Philadelphia.

2016 comes into training camp with Sam Bradford starting who gets traded the week of the start of the season only to come in and exceed expectations as a rookie and set franchise rookie records in the process. Making certain individual plays that have never been made in this league by any quarterback before.

2017 plays like an mvp, sets us up with home field advantage through out the playoff run,  only to blow up his knee putting his body on the line for a close game (throws a td pass while on a torn acl mcl and pcl) everybody knows the story.

2018 comes back in record time (9 months) after we’ve built a statue of his back up and put it infront the stadium only to hear from the fan base he’s not the same qb as he was before, even though statistically he had been having a better season than his mvp front running previous season. Proceeds to FRACTURE A VERTEBRAE IN HIS BACK! -mid season only to be called injury prone by the fanbase.

2019 comes back from a devastating injury once again and while the team falls apart around him for the 3rd year in a row (because we’ve had the oldest roster in the league and what do we do? Bring in desean Jackson to help😂) literally carries a team with players who won’t play a down of nfl football for the rest of their lives to 4 straight wins and gets his team to the playoffs for a third straight year to only be cheap shot hit in the first quarter of the playoffs by a known dirty player to hear again how injury prone he is by the fanbase oh and I forgot to mention setting franchise passing records in the process and an nfl single season record by throwing 4000 passing yards with no wide receiver over 500 receiving yards individually.

To this point in his career Carson had set another nfl record to have 95 pass tds and 35 or fewer ints in his first 54 games only qb in LEAGUE HISTORY to accomplish this.

2020 has been horrible football by this kid and you cannot say anything else, but once again we reached on a project wide receiver in the first rd and refused to bring in elite talent that was on the market in deAndre Hopkins and Stefon Diggs. All along the way of this journey Carson has had to hear from this ####### stupid ### fanbase how bad he is and how we should have kept nick ####### foles (who I love btw but the guy can’t beat out Mitch tribusky and lost 5 straight games this year barely scoring the least amount of offensive points a week and is also a combined 2-9 since leaving Philadelphia)

If I was Carson I would say #### these ungrateful Monday morning qbs and take his talents somewhere else but the kid has day in day out put his head down and gone to work in a city that has called for the back up qb my entire life from aj freely and Jeff Garcia over Mcnabb to hurts and foles over Carson because they’re so football inept that they can’t understand the problems of a football team don’t always fall on the quarterback and just need somebody to point the finger at. You wonder why guys like mcnabb have always felt jaded towards this city? They had to deal with this #### for 10+ years... this fanbase is ruthless when they latch onto a problem, take a look at how well Nelson ahgolor is playing when he doesn’t have to hear 100 thousand times a day how he dropped a ball and doesn’t get death threats and outlandish dms from this fanbase, he looks like a brand new player in Las Vegas.

And I’m gonna finish by saying I wasn’t freaking out over the Jalen hurts pick in April, I thought it was smart and actually took solace in the fact that Howie finally took a high pick on a kid from a big name school. And as much as I like the kid and think he will succeed in this league he has nowhere near the body of work Carson wentz has and after one game with less that 300 yards total people are putting him in the hall of fame already. But there is no doubt in my mind if he were to come in and be our starter for 2021 it would only be a matter of time before he gets the same treatment that Carson is getting right now.”

I really hate our fanbase sometimes and this guy sums it up perfectly. Even if I played for this team as a local guy and the fans did this to me I'd probably want to leave myself and that says a lot honestly. This is why this city sports wise can't have Nice things. Too many jabronies who listen to an idiot like Cataldi and the ilk who end up giving us REAL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE fans a horrible image. Honestly a guy like Cataldi I don't know how he lasted after the JD Drew Battery throwing incident. If I was Drew I'd have pressed full extent of charges on the guy for inciting violates. One of those batteries hits that dude the wrong way could've done some inreverseable serious damage. That and WIP didn't have the balls to fire him.

Good stuff and mostly true but doesn't excuse his play this season imo.   He was hideous.
It’s doesn’t. I shared after seeing an article from Dan Orvlosky who said he’s heard people around Wentz say he feels betrayed. Seemed to tie them together.

He may just be done with it here and maybe he wants out?  I’m just trying to see all angles

Hand you $128M and draft a backup at your position because you can’t finish a season=betrayed? I hope this isn’t accurate.

I don’t necessarily disagree but telling someone they’re secure while you’re actions say otherwise is pretty much an FU.

I can’t think of any instance where a QB was given that kind of money, take his team to the playoffs at 26 and have a QB picked that early.

Yes, he wasn’t playing well. We can all agree with that, however, even when he was playing well he never had to not look over his shoulder. The front office never made the commitment fully like we’ve seen with tons of other teams around the league. You can almost find an example with every single team in the league over time and no one has done what we did.

They also kept a locker room rat who talked smack on him while sleeping with said reporter. I'd feel a little betrayed too. The way Jeffrey plays with and without Wentz is kind of blantant right now too. Dude should be just flat out cut and should've eaten the hit. I doubt anyone would sign such a locker room cancer anyway.

Definately agree with what he's saying and wouldn't blame Wentz here either. It also backs up the talk I've heard about Wentz needing a new QB coach. Team needs to build that trust up with him again. If that is firing Press Taylor or putting him elsewhere and asking Wentz for his input on the next QB coach so be it, let the cancer known as Jeffrey go would also do wonders.

Also if I was Kelce/Cox/etc (lockerrom leaders) and saw Jeffrey doing this I'd have called him out in front of the locker room. If he has an issue with it be a man and do something about it. Don't go hide behind the girl your banging who many players around the league feel is a locker room rat. I'm glad Chris Long spoke up on social media last year right too her and even told players to stay away from her off, but we don't know if any of Wentz's teammates have spoken up to him and called Jeffrey out. I know if this guy was playing on my team and did this I'd have called him out instantly and told him if he doesn't like it do something about it because it's obvious he has some issues. Lets hear them and talk it out like adults not some scared child running to his GF or Mommy.

SEC Title game on CBS now. A few guys the Eagles could target here. Devonta Smith of Alabama would be a good fit and depending what they do with Ertz, TE Kyle Pitts of Florida who is from Philadelphia is a great prospect. Probably the best TE coming out since Kelce and much better TE wise from UF then Aaron Hernandez was at the time. Both are projected to go somewhere in the top 10 if the Eagles manage to lose out.

I hope the scouts were at this SEC title game. A ton of weapons involved tonight. Should've had the government there for carrying with a threat to sell

Just saw the article where Wentz doesn’t want to be the backup.....uh well maybe don’t play awful if you don’t want to ride the pine?

Seems like he's unhappy with the way the organization has handled things and his situation.  I don't blame him one bit.

That’s a little much, given they could have put more around him and some old coaches are missed but he straight up sucked this season. Acting like a baby about it isn’t a good look for him, prepare better next season and come back and win the job.

I agree he needs to play better, but perhaps there's more to this and we don't really know if it was Doug, Howie, or even Lurie who made the call to go to Hurts.

He's been nothing but a professional and class act throughout his career, I think he's allowed to say that he wants to be a starter somewhere.  Sounds like he may feel what many in here felt, that Doug called a way better game with Hurts in and that he's kind of the scapegoat

This is a brutal situation.

I don't know. Been listening to bunch of different podcasts, etc. and I think i am getting near being out on Wentz. He seems to lack any self-awareness and blaming the Eagles team for his downfalls is just utterly wrong.

I would love to pull all of his stats, but i think he ranked 32nd in passes under 5 yards. No way in the world would any QB look at stats like that and blame the organization and not suggest to themselves that they need to re-evaluate why the passes were so bad.

I also think the reason why Hurts played better is because Doug letting Carson become part of the offense design and play calling as of last year. It seems evident that Carson needs to accept more of the blame for this year, and he seems to be refusing too.

I guess if anything, the Eagles are not boring

He has every right to not accept being a backup, but if he thinks the reason he got benched is anything other than his poor decision making, inaccurate passing and complete inability to sense the push rush he’s not holding himself accountable.

I think the bolded is fair but at the same time he came into the season completely unprepared and hurt the team a lot more than he helped it. If he can’t own it and starts finger pointing I’ll go from one of his biggest supporters to fine moving on.

But he hasn't to our knowledge yet. This is all hearsay from podcasts and reporters.

This is true, could just be a bunch of click bait. This off season will tell us all we need to know about him, hopefully he dedicates himself to proving the haters wrong.

Could also be Wentz’s agent, without Wentz input although this is probably not likely.  Timing of this is bad and looks selfish to have this come out on game day.

Ultimately if Wentz doesn’t acknowledge his own role in his failure this year then he might not be able to turn his career around.  There is plenty of failure to go around between Howie and Doug as well, but Wentz has to own his poor play and work on improving his flaws.

I'll wait to hear it from his mouth before acknowledging it.

He’s owned his bad play in just about every PC

And everything he allegedly said about the front office is correct.

Both can be true at the same time.

From Rob Maaddi:

Carson Wentz is invested in  Philadelphia/South Jersey communities. It’s not just about him. It’s about family, friends, his AO1 Foundation, his Thy Kingdom Crumb food truck, friendships & relationships. I’m told he doesn’t want out of Philly & he hasn’t told that to anyone.

Well I don't know that Carson will have a say in this. If Hurts keeps playing like this, win or lose, he's gone.

Who else is potentially leaking statements being a whiner?
He didn’t get benched for leaking statements. The answer is that it hasn’t applied to anyone on the team this season. And there’s a long list of examples it should have applied to. I’m all good with play well or sit but be consistent. That’s not asking a lot.

This isn’t leaked either. Wentz literally said the day he got benched that he saw no value in being a backup. That equate to him not being happy playing behind someone.

And the organizations handling of this from giving him the deal instead of a tag while drafting his replacement is absolutely ridiculous. That’s before you account for what they put around him.

There's no evidence he even said it. People need to be careful with this hearsay nonsense. I heard the pregame guys getting angry at Carson for things he may not have even said. This is how libel cases come about ruining someone's reputation.

When you play the position that touches the ball every play on offense it’s not going to be treated the same across the board. I’m not a front office defender either and I’ve probably defended Wentz in here as much as anyone but QB’s get paid the big bucks....he can put on his big boy pants. No way I would grant him a trade unless it’s a very nice return.

I agree, that’s why I included potentially.

I think you agree with me. QB’s are generally afforded a longer leash. To pull the plug on him and not others is questionable.

No matter which side of the QB fence you’re on, one has to go next year. Only way it works is if Hurts falls all over himself these next 2.5 games but it doesn’t look likely at all.

Wouldn’t have burned a 10th on Wentz if I’d know a QB twice as good would be in the wire.

Hurts played good but he made some mistakes that cost us today. Safety and those 2 sacks on the 2nd to last possession were killers. Those will get glossed over by his stats though.

Back to back second halves where the offense looks mediocre. I know I’m beating a dead horse but it doesn’t matter who the QB is if Doug is the HC.

And that was with refs doing their best to keep us in this one.

Yea it was weird. I could tell we were getting every call today.
