Official 2022 college football thread: its conference realignment season. (2 Viewers)

We do a super dogs pool at work and I took Baylor this week over BYU. I added that I really wish I had more guts to pick Georgia Southern over Nebraska. Maybe I should have.

Also, I’m gonna be pissed if someone picked Marshall because they’ll get the points and rub it in lol.

The Sun Belt was already going to be my new favorite conference since JMU moved up, but their collective wins over P5 schools yesterday (& in week 1) made me that much more eager to watch those schools. A few years ago, it was the AAC that I looked forward to watching, just because they had so many fun teams and wildly different styles of play. Now it's the Sun Belt. They have great regional rivalries and programs that have been a thorn in the side of P5 schools for a good while. App State, Coastal Carolina, GA Southern, and LA have all been fine programs the last few years. Freaking Marshall was picked 6th or 7th - in their own division! - in the preseason and they just won in South Bend.

Marshall is an odd fit for the Sunbelt. I think they are too good a program for the conference, but too small for the bigger ones. I remember when they were in the MAC, same scenario.

Stanford was pretty impressive last nighT, may be a nice sleeper in the conference. They could have really got blown out vs USC. Those TO’s really hurt, especially the two inside the 5.

I think it's probably their best fit, though, given how the other conferences are shaking out. And they'll build a nice local rivalry with James Madison.

Yeah, that's a very different game absent the goal line gaffes by Stanford. Cool seeing legends Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice watching their sons play. EJ Smith is a chip off the old block.

So I reckon Nebraska will fire Frost on 10/1 (his buyout cuts in half then). But would a win over Oklahoma save his job? I realize that's purely academic as its not going to happen.

Just realized we won’t have to see Notre Dame get their doors blown off in the playoff this year. That’s pretty sweet.

I mean it’ll just be some other team getting demolished but still.

Question for the PSU homers here. Is James Franklin an idiot? How the hell do you let Will Levis Transfer? Dude is Cleary better then what they have in Clifford the last two years and what that they had before that in McSorely AKA The very punchable Face kid. I really liked Levis with Kentucky and he seems to have mature a lot more since last season in terms of his game. I might be a UF guy but that was a great throw on the he had. NFL Sunday throw right there. Anyone who missed UK/UF missed a very good game. UF really didn't deserve to win after the 1st half but UK kept shooting themselves in the foot

Yes, that was nice to see them.

From Bruce Feldman - BREAKING Scott Frost has been fired at Nebraska.. Mickey Joseph is taking over as interim head coach.

Wow. That is really surprising to me. They couldn't wait 3 weeks?

Now announce Tommy Rees. Speculation rampant that Tyler Buchner has a “significant” shoulder injury and might be lost for the year.

Freeman is definitely not getting the honeymoon he hoped. Might end up going to the freshman Steve Angeli. Pyne will start but has looked awful.

I guess we'll never know. Frost has been fired. :oldunsure:

I guess they felt holding onto him for a few more weeks wasn't worth saving $7.5 million.

This is why.

This guy wasn't there when Levis transferred though?

Has anyone done a wellness check on @Steve Tasker? Holy Cross tossed a Hail Mary to upset Buffalo.
I was out of town for the weekend and thankfully missed this debacle. I knew UB would be kinda bad this year but wasn't expecting FCS losses. There's talent on paper, and the coaches can recruit, but apparently can't manage in-game to save their lives.

Hits just keep coming for Notre Dame. Ugh -

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman says QB Tyler Buchner is likely out for the year: "He ended up getting I think a Grade 5 out of 6 AC sprain in his non-throwing shoulder." Buchner will have surgery tomorrow and the expected recovery time is 4 months. Drew Pyne is QB1.

My Kansas Jayhawks would like to extend a hearty thank you to you for Lance Liepold who is transforming Rock Chalk into a force. 2-0 baby!

So many fans clamored for Pyne because he had a good showing against Wisconsin last year. He has appeared to regress to me as that seemed to be his clear best game by far. I fear for the offense even more going forward.

I think it might be a better idea to eventually get Steve Angeli in there. He's more mobile like Buchner but can also pass. The season is lost, so you might as well get the younger guys some meaningful reps and see what you have.
