what a move by lafay. just great! træn has a fractured elbow. o'Conner was on the floor today. :oldunsure:

i have 1,2,9,17 in GC

Stage 3 winner - Pedersen, Philipsen, or Jakobsen today

Welsford, Groenewegen, Ewan, Bauhaus, Girmay, Coquard, Strong, Cavendish, & Kristoff should all be in it

The Lanterne Rouge classification after stage 2. Bolded are sprinters who might end up in the final bunch. Didn't include Meeus bc he couldn't keep his leadout (Van Poppel) man's wheel Stage 1. Cav is strictly sentimental but I could see him taking Stage 21.

Le Tour has finished a stage in Bayonne 20 times; 12 of those started in Bordeaux (205 km), and 18 of the 20 were north to south, from the wine growing farmland into the Basque region. Fom 1920-24, the stage started in Les Sables-d'Olonne, France - a 482 km ride* that typically took 19-20 hours.

At least they followed that with a rest day. 2023 doesn't have it's first rest day until July 10.

Camera work left a lot to be desired. Live it looked like a deviation but on replay it wasn't dirty. There shouldn't be a bend like that in a sprint finish.

MvdP becoming world's best leadout man, Morkov would be proud.

All of Alpecin looked very strong in the final bit - timed their move to the front perfectly to come out of those last two big turns in perfect position to control the sprint.

I don't understand Assist points. O'Connor gets dropped, 3 minutes out the back, Peters goes back to single handedly drag him back to the head of the peloton - zero points.

Laegen takes a couple short turns at the front on the flattest part of the stage and gets 12 Assist points.

UAE team has 50 Ast pts /rider so far, JV 28, next highest team is like 12. Guess you only get them if you are your team is pacing the race for a sector (or something.)

I thought it was just based on their teammate's overall rankings

Lol. I thought it was only based on individual stage Finishes. Your guys wins, you get points. And I think it goes down a few spots. At least to 3rd. I could be totally wrong though

I was half right. They also get points for team rankings.

Your riders will score points for Daily Stage Performance (stage result, positions in intermediate sprints and mountain summits, being in the breakaway, and team assists for a teammate winning the stage), Daily Classification Standings (position in the general classification, mountains classification and points classification at the end of each day, plus team assist points for the position of the rider's team in the teams classification) and Final End-of-Tour classifications (final standings in the general classification, mountains classification, points classification, and team assist points for the team's performance in the overall teams classification).

I deliberated the longest about O’Connor. Starting to think I should have left him off my squad.

when he won that killer mountain stage two years ago on 4th of july - just destroyed everybody, 6 minutes better than Pogi & the fishmonger - I was like alright, another young rider who is ready to be in the conversation.

kind of hasn't done jack since. pretty decent Vuelta last fall but not as good as I hoped he would become.

Yea. I expected more after the dauphine. We’ll see. It’s early. He’s just having all sorts of dumb stuff happen

bunch of them had flats from morons throwing tacks on the road, maybe that happened to him today

& yeah he looked great in the dolphin

Independence Day stage is mostly flat, one Cat 4 climb 37 km from the finish. Final section is on the first purpose built motorsport track ever built in France (1960.)

Usual suspects are favorites:
  • |***| Jasper Philipsen, Fabio Jakobsen, Dylan Groenewegen
  • |** | Wout van Aert, Mads Pedersen, Caleb Ewan, Mark Cavendish
  • |* | Sam Welsford, Biniam Girmay, Phil Bauhaus

I'm not buying that cycling is outdrawing soccer in viewership.

I probably should have hung onto Phillipsen instead of switching to Van Aert. I had looked at these stages and thought the "it's a GC tour setup" was overblown.

Love the time bonus at the top of the climb in stage 2. It added a good bit to the stage. Are there more? Couldn't find that.

I haven't been able to find a list of mountain stages with bonuses but kept hearing about them in previews. I noticed the stage profiles have a B above the climbs that have the 8/5/2 second bonuses.
Interesting that 9, 13, 15 and 17 don't have them. When it's freaking hard (or long) climb where GC is going to crush the field, no need to throw a bonus in there to incentify going for the crest bc they'll already be going all out.

True, but at least in stage 2 it was pretty compelling. We'll see what the rest are like.

yeah Tadej def made picking up time bonuses / putting pressure on the fishmonger a weekend priority. on Sunday Trentin kept riding to the front to tell Majka to dial it back (at least twice in animated conversations) to dial the pace back & the Pole wasn’t haven’t it. then he dropped back to the car to talk to the DS.

these stages might be wearing on people in ten days. def not the standard casual prologue/TT/flat stage rollouts we’re used to, and no early break in the first 5 days.

I going to spoil it...this sucks today. I think I might head outside and watch the local group ride for some excitement.
