***Official 2023 Pro Cycling Thread*** - The Vuelta will be a Primoz, Vigo, G, Remco mosh pit (1 Viewer)

endured a half hour of the world feed - whose announcers could induce a coma - before realizing Phil and Bob were on the regular Peacock feed

**whew**

I was going to try to handicap the other teams and make a predictions post, but it's too hard.

11 Velogame entries and legit there's like 8 or 9 that look strong and could/should be favorites.

Should be super close if crashes and Covid don't wreck any lineups.

Riders in common on the 11 teams:

It’s nice you didn’t call my team out as one of the dregs.

Pogacar
Alahilippe
Kuss
Groenewegen
Craddock
Kirsch
Gallopin
Pinot

Like my team but suspect it’ll be weak after the first 2.

I like your team (other than it's too 🇫🇷 )

Feel like Alaphilippe is right there with PIddock and Van Der Poel as punchers who can win on flat or hilly stages - those kind of guys and classic riders should do well in this GT. Groenewegen is maybe 5th fastest sprinter in the field but the way these stages are setup there might be 5-6 different bunch sprint winners, and Mezgec is a great leadout. Pinot is too old and hasn't won a stage in 4 years but i could totally see him going out with a bang in his last TdF. Other than Gallopin, i had every one of your guys in different builds.

Weren't too many of us who did the Jonas/Pog double. It's weird, even though I think Pogaćar is the best in the world, I never considered dropping Vingegaard....but a bunch of my builds swapped Tadej with A.Yates or another GC and upgraded the unclassified riders. I also really wanted Van Aert but the threat of him leaving + not going for the green jersey + his whole year being focused on being ready for the worlds next month scared me away - and most everyone else, too.

your team rocks - surprised more people didn't take Mads, might really set yours apart

but putting a German + an Austrian on there killed your chances

(I kid, I kid, dafuq do I know)

Just got an e-mail from Xfinity today that Peacock+ (where the TDF is being broadcast) is no longer part of the package that I have with them.

we had to add it as we stream Sling (+ a bunch of others - Hulu, NetFlix, Prime)

gonna keep it through at least September to watch the Vuelta, but with all the good golf coverage we might leave it alone

def the best option is when you pickup Peacock up as part of something else - it’s not that great

he’s like taking Kelce in the first - awesome pick that gives you a huge advantage, AND royally screws up the rest of the build

Are we discussing the race in progress here? Looks like without Peacock you won't get most of the tour on TV.

They scared me off Van Aert with the threat of pulling out early (which he clearly failed to do).

His wife is due between TdF and World Championships. It's possible but still more likely he'll finish.

Everyone made a big deal about him saying he's not going for the Green Jersey this year but he's been saying the same thing since December - all those bunch sprints and pulling in the mountains kills his legs for WC, and that's the goal this year. I don't think Wout can race and not dominate but clearly he's going to pick his spots this year, protecting Jonas when needed, and just won't be going all out.

IMO - but he's amazing, won't be surprised if he still wins a couple stages, he always does.

I want to, but if people without Peacock prefer we hold off until say 5pm or 7pm to give them a chance to watch highlights thats fine.

We can just spoiler tag discussion like we did for the Giro.

Powless pulling the field with Carapaz 20th wheel

I love EF, it's always chaos

Neilson takes the KOM sprinta over Zimmerman - impressive, does the lead out and then launches himself

Carapaz crash and not getting up - bleeding from left knee

Shaw getting checked out - elbow or collarbone or shoulder, getting looked at doctor

Powless about to become EFEP Team Leader

ETA - didn't realize Mas was in there....oh man, this is bad. They took his bike away, he's out.

Carapaz eventually started to ride again...gingerly, with one leg.

Carapaz will abandon post-stage (IMO), Powless becomes leader over Uran

Mas is out, Jorgenson it's your time to shine

terrible to see a crash take out two GC climbers on Stage 1 but that's two great opportunities for USA cycling

Pog & Yates attack Jonas responds

this is great - Pog beat Ving for the KOM sprint

and Lafay riders away from all 3 of them lol

now Yates & Yates teaming up

these first 5 stages are going to be awesome

motorbike letting the Yates bros get a free tug

gap went fm 5 to 10+ on the descent

Wout needs to launch and steal the bonus fm Pog

I had a dozen builds where I dropped Pog for A Yates lol

would have been the only team without Tadej

BTW, the whole Basque region is so interesting. They have a unique language not derived from French or Spanish, and DNA studies show they have very little commonality with either nation. The natural barrier of the Pyrenees meant they were never occupied by Rome. Really fascinating culture.

first time the Yates twins have finished 1-2 since 2013

ranking by quality of start list, this win was the best of Adam Yates 22 wins

also won combative rider of the day

Powless wins KOM (5 pts) for the Polkadot Jersey

55th day in the White Jersey for Tadej, tying him with Jan Ullrich for the all-time lead

would be the first rider to win 4 white jersey if he finishes le Tour

easily won the final sprint to get the 4 second bonus

Cavendish and his entire team finished DFL 21:32 back

Mas abandoned at the crash site, Carapaz expected to DNS tomorrow, Shaw apparently OK

Differentiation is where it’s at, eh

Love your team
  • Ciccone is a great climber
  • I put Træen in a ton of builds, probably my favorite 6 pt rider
  • 3 guys who could Top 5 GC
Def gonna be hard to catch

The reality is most of us whiff on 3-4 picks every GT, as long as you have 2 good GC 1 sprinter winning stages and 1-2 good climbers you’ll get to 9-10K

With the lack of many sprint stages I went GC heavy. I had a 2 sprinter set up, but switched it Up pretty early on.

I think no one took Cort? he's the kind of puncher who could take a stage, has total freedom now (plus he's leaving anyway)

yeah that was the other reason I left WvA off, he's not going for green and doesn't make sense to have 2

but I figure when MVdP isn't leading out Philipsen, he'll do well on hilly stages

I like your setup though - one big $$ GC, couple other top GC, and 3 climbers or punchers who could solo a stage or get in breaks
