***Official 2023 Pro Cycling Thread*** - The Vuelta will be a Primoz, Vigo, G, Remco mosh pit (1 Viewer)

MVDP has been relegated and fined.

Team sport, individualized penalty. If you’re a lead-out, I guess the UCI is OK if you hinder other sprinters as your sprinter will never be penalised by your actions.

Anyway, I still win the Stage without MvdP’s points but dropped off the podium in the overall standings.
Definitely. That was a team move and should b be a team penalty.

can’t believe they didn’t relegate Guerrero (Movistar) for giving Julius Johansen a shoulder barge today - fighting for a couple meaningless KOM points

4 teams (not 2 as I stated earlier) have the Jonas - Tadej duo

finished 1-2-3-5 today

8th time since 2021 they’ve finished a stage 1-2 (+ the past two Tours)

I just don't think he actually had to legs to be sprinting there and lost control as a result.
That's kind of what I thought live too. He's all over the place. But then on the replay you can see he chicken wings the other rider near the line.

What a great stage. My team is starting to come into form. Need some sprint points out of Dylan in the next few days. All my GC guys needs to centrifuge their blood and get some epo Version 2 going. Looking at you O’Connor.

I’m more than a little surprised Pogi had the legs especially since he was so isolated. At only 25 seconds, Jumbo’s going to have to drop him once more to win this thing.

I was a little surprised Jonas didn't flick him, have him take a turn. Or ride 80% and recover so you'll have something to respond with if he does attack.

If you watch the replay, jonas looked to the side because a flare caught his eye. Tadej was waiting for that moment, he was way up the road by the time the Fishmonger realized what had just happened.

But he didn't panic. Pog is one of the greatest ever, he stayed cool and limited the damage. TJV had an awesome day but that last couple km leaves a sour taste.

Awesome Tour so far, lots of great stages left (9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17.)

Yep. And once the last skyy riders retire I can’t wait for someone to sell the story. Should make a good Netflix documentary. “The TDF, the boring years”

Jumbo visma is the bigger problem. Pog is always alone when it matters. Hopefully Yates is spending a few clandestine hours away from the team.

This is fascinating for me in that Sepp Kuss is not listed. He's way down the list on km ridden this year as well, despite riding the entire Giro in May. Only other races were weeklong tours in UAE (Feb) and Catalunya (Mar), so actually a pretty light schedule outside of the GTs.

There are 808 vertical meters today. There are 18 stages with more vertical meters.

So given 35 happens today, why does no one ever discuss that Merckx had more stages per Tour back then? Just because he did it in way fewer Tours and overall stages anyway? Lots of Merckx wins were a 12a or a 23b (ie there were two stages those days) so I’d only count those as half wins, and Cav already has the record.

Merckx also has 3 Prologues which obviously shouldn’t count because they don’t have a number and a 23rd stage which as far as I’m concerned is part of the Vuelta at that point, so I’ve got him down to the high 20s total stage wins. By the end of stage 7, I’ll have rationalized him down to like 4 stage wins. Barely more than I have.

Cote de Cauterets (5,20km; 7,60%; 395m)

Career Best Performance.

(the day after Vingegaard set the fastest ever climb on Col de Marie Blanque)
At the top of the Tourmalet Jonas was 6.9 or so and Tadej was 6.8. I think what it shows is that Tadej has 6.8-6.9 in him longer, but Jonas can hit 7.1-2 for 5-10 minutes while Tadej can only do that for a couple of minutes (ie the classics).

If that’s the case Jonas needs to take time on the Puy and Colombian stages or have Jumbo soft pedal up some of the more mountainous stages like Mt Blanc.

To really put Tadej under stress, Jumbo needs home above 7.0 VAM for multiple minutes while Tadej can hold 6.7-6.9 longer.

@BassNBrew

Nans Peters joined the break - any chance he'll get breakaway points today? what's the rule again?

my man is sitting on 2 points, so anything would be nice....

By UCI rule, all riders must use bikes and equipment which are commercially available.

That means you, average Joe, could be riding the same thing as Wout or Jonas or Tadej.

(presumably the $12-15K price tag is not an issue for the average FBG)
