Hit the ball great yesterday. Best in awhile. Hit every fairway with my driver and they were long for me. Irons were solid. Few misses by a yard where I hit the top of a false front and trickled back off an elevated green. Not good enough to be that precise, especially with swing. Shot 79 but shoulda been so much better. 2 3 putts when I misjudged freshly rolled greens and raced em but. Lightening. Affected short game all the way around. Usually I knock several pitches/chips dead to get up and down. Not yesterday. Bogies. Time to tighten that stuff up. Need to get more height and check when they are this firm.

Weather is supposed to be sensational here for 2 weeks so will try to get out 3-4 times a week

I just bought a 2 bar Rife putter at an estate sale for 20 bucks and it looks brand new. Looked it up and it is from around 2008-2010 era and retailed for over 200 at that time. Grip is perfect.

Anyone used a Rife before?

76-73 to take down second overall in a big tournament.

Wife watched me give some whisky back to the gods on hole 12 yesterday. Explained that’s how tournaments go. There was some skepticism then she saw the cash…
Great playing.

But are you, ah, saying you vomited on the course? Or like, poured one out for your homies?

The former. :bag:

I normally just sip whisky (and had finished my flask at that point and felt fine) but another player bought me a transfusion and it must not have sat well.

I really need to figure out how to play well sober.

Depends on your definition of sober. At my annual Ryder Cup format guys' trip, I have considered taking a Lorazepam on the first tee box to take the edge off because I don't like to booze up and inevitably start making horrible decisions on the back nine.

I'll put this way: my ability to drive a motor vehicle and my ability to make birdies are inversely correlated to by BAC.

Huh. Kinda worried about you GB, that seems a lil extreme.

played sunday at one of the tougher courses in the area, the links at bodega harbor (a must if you are visiting nor cal), 37 putts :wall: lots of 3 putts but the greens are huge and most are 3 tiered and I was unable to find the middle of the greens. Slope/elevation change plays a major role as did the wind but even with all of that I still managed to shoot an 84 (14 over) and did not lose a single ball which is almost unheard of out there. The course is lined by houses but the views are still second to none for all the courses north of san fran https://www.bodegaharbourgolf.com/

No, generally just reserved for big tournaments where alcohol is supplied and I see friends I don't usually see. I do commonly drink while playing (the golf course, save for maybe a glass of wine with a nice dinner when out on a date with my wife maybe 1x/month, is the only place I drink) but not to significant excess.

I GOT A HOLE IN ONE

ON A PAR FOUR

WITH A WITNESS

Still shot 13 over 🤣

MORE TO COME
Ok so...par 5 9th hole coming back to the clubhouse. One of my favorite holes. Only the fairway bunkers are under construction, so they've blocked the tee boxes and put new tee boxes a little over halfway down the fairway, turning it into a 228 yard par 4. VERY short!

Like 2 holes earlier I had hit what I thought was a really nice drive...but it landed in a bunker 197 away. Which was super in my head because when I connect, I have carry around 225. So I spent two holes in my own head thinking like did I not hit it well, it went straight and had a good flight, was something wrong with the ball, is my driver dead (didnt sound or feel like it), is it soooo humid that something crazy is happening...idk. But basically it made me wonder if using driver was perfect, or if I caught it well did I put the clubhouse in a little bit of danger behind the hole? Well there's a decently steep hill behind the green so I figured even if I smashed it, it was safe.

So I hit it. Hit it well, dead straight off the club, I kinda lost it in the rising sun (it's like 9:00am), but the single they paired me with said he had it, then we saw it hit the front of the green, roll, and disappear. We both thought it was through the back, but a nice easy chip or maybe a fringe putt, should be a really good look at birdie, maybe even an eagle putt. He hit his, ended up like 55 yards short right of the hole. So he drives up to his, I'm walking of course, he chips on, I'm walking up, and I don't see the ball. So i walk across the green to the two collection areas, kick the leaves around, trying to find it. NO WAY I lost this ball, there's no danger, we saw it down and roll, and now I'm thinking this is so unlucky, I'm gonna have to drop, this is crap.

Other guy goes "Dude, come look at this." So I walked over and holy crap it was in the hole. That's where it had disappeared. IN THE HOLE. Amazing.

Finished the front 9 +4 as a result, easily my best front 9 ever.

Unfortunately, around hole 12 my legs started to go as I ran out of water and discovered that apparently Dallas has removed every water fountain from it's municipal courses. So I'm parched, no cart girl, dehydrated more with every step, the back 9 is SUPER hilly...honestly to only go 10 over felt really good. Just some crap duffs and a couple penalties, but mostly struck the ball really well, made good decisions. The first two things that go when I'm really tired are pitch shots (partial wedges) and chips, and it really killed me. I think I could have ended only 10 over if I'd played as well as the first 8 holes, because the back 9 is easier and has more scoring chances.

But still - had a round with a birdie and an ALBATROSS HOLE IN ONE. Can't complain.

Sorry USGA states anything under 240 is a par 3............ :P
:lmao:

I also was about to chime in on how it's a temporary hole...
I had a hard time figuring out how to post the score. as best I can tell, I think I'm supposed to either post it as a net par (so I should post a 6 as I would have received a stroke)) as a "skipped hole" orI should post the same net (in this case, a 2, as if I had hit a drive and then a hybrid that went in) for the temporary hole.

FWIW, I don't recall the distance to center. I just zapped the pin. Maybe it woudl have been 240? But I don't think so.

STILL HIT IT ONCE AND IT STILL WENT IN HOW BOUT DEM APPLES

:lmao:

Jokingly: We're all just jealous so ignore the commentary.

Serious: The course should have put out some local rule on this. Frankly, if you want to count it as an offical(tm) hole in one, I would contact the course to see what they are telling players to do with it.

I mean at the end of the day, it doesn't really mean anything for my golf or the world. I have a great story forever, I've got a picture with the single I was paired up with holding up a 1 with me and the ball, and it was a really fun morning. I get to share the story here, with my buddies, at the next Ryder Cup event our firm does this fall...it's great!

It says to post a net par for hcp purposes if no new rating. If it's just the tee box I'd probably post my score relative to par. So a par 5 would be a 2 in your case if I was scoring. Right or wrong that's probably what I'd do

Ftr I'm talking about full score posting.

I'm damn sure counting that as an ace

Good way to look at it, congrats! It’s “too bad” the hole was temporary, but I think that’s a footnote, not an asterisk. I would also consider the hole a par 3, but a long one at that and still amazing…..

It means "official." As in, in compliance with USGA rules or whatever.

I only know this because my course has to do something similar when we were redoing one of our holes last year. Everybody had to take net par and any holes in one would not have been "official" - but, again, it's a freaking hole in one when bragging to your friends and buying drinks to celebrate.

It's been a funny read, people going into their PGA tour rules bible and pointing to Rule 10,291, Article IV, section D-7.8, to decipher what it really means when some dude hits a ball 230 yards into a small hole so far away. Something that will never happen again in his lifetime. Golf is serious business and I propose this go to a vote by committee of currently sanctioned PGA tour officials, who are familiar with these hallowed municipal track grounds where the incident took place, though none of which can be blood relatives or have any familiarity with the defendant.

But first and foremost, prior to the hearing, I propose testing of the ball and club used. This HOI can be declared official only after a full inspection validates said golfer, FBG Instinctive, is shown to be in full compliance with the Pro Golfers Association of America. I would also ask that a drug test be performed and to make sure his USGA membership was in fact, valid at the time.

Tennyson?

Playing in a five day match play member guest at a wonderful private club. My partner and I took down low gross and low net for the practice round yesterday. Five birdies on the day for your humble narrator.

Now gotta keep it going when it really matters as our team went for a lot in the Calcutta.

Love this game. Swing hard, take chances!

Is there a seperate PGA thread or is this the catch all?

In either case, my brewery is releasing a beer with Taylor Pendrith tomorrow, so if he could win the masters, that would be amazing.

Thanks.

Partner and I beat a legend today. Won the first five holes then hung on to win 4 and 3.

Game never felt better.
Won four and three again today. On to the final four!
We going to the ‘ship… we going to the ‘ship…

Won 5 and 4 today. Made four birdies total myself and three of those covered theirs. I was gross even when we stopped.

Have never played better.

Booooo

What does "official" even mean in this context? Not like it was a tournament. Who cares what the course is telling people, it's a hole in one! Nice job!

This might be one of the most tedious things I've ever heard outside of the Lawyer Thread.
If you hit it from the tee box, and it's not a mulligan or breakfast ball repeat, then it's a hole in one.

I might be done. Haven't played in over a month. Shoulder hurts. My 4 fingers kill me to hold a club. Par 5 smoke a drive . 135 yards in. Hit my 7th ground ball of the day

Fairly certain I have a torn cuff and now arthritis. 2 fingers each hand extremely painful
