Pedersen's prerace interview

"Mads, what is your tactic for enjoying today's stage?"

"That's impossible. Absolutely impossible. It is already ruined because I had to get up at six o'clock. ... It is the stupidest stage in this whole race!"

All the while with a big grin on his face.

Saw the coverage started at 4:15am on the East coast. Was wondering why so early. Figured they needed time to get down to Rome for the finish.

Did not have that on my bingo card
Me neither. I am finally caught up and now this??

31 man break - nobody from EF or UAE; 1 from Visma - WvA, 2022 callback

One the most absurd stages I've seen

Incredible job by Yates and Visma, but.. what the heck, Del Toro?

I'm usually in the "he wasn't doing anything wrong tactically, he didn't have better legs" camp

But if you can follow every brutal attack by Carapaz that left Gee in the dust again and again, but refuse to make ANY effort to even help catch Yates, you just screwed yourself for no reason

When he lost the virtual GC lead I think he did one 30 second pull and then it was "no mas"

Group 2 syndrome writ large

WHY are all the non-Pogi young talents on UAE such chuckleheads?

(.....Almeida, Ayuso, Del Toro, et al)

on the go atm, here is the formatted version

Looks like I'm Del Toro and Cheesey is Simon Yates

I have no chance. We both have Mads but you still have Kooij. My only chance is possible end of tour bonus points to cut the gap.

Exactly. Horner will have a field day with this. Carpaz chased Yates down several times. I see no reason why Del Toro didn't make any effort as he never looked under bother.

I think he probably was mostly at his limit. The tactical error was deciding he had to follow Carapaz and not Yates. He could probably only follow one, but with Wout up the road it should have been Yates. Even if Yates/Del Toro were down 2 minutes at the top, Wout would have pulled back a big chunk of time.

That was the big f-up. He was going to get one-two’s by one of them and should have picked the guy with a riser up the road.

Just finished the race replay. That was easily the biggest tactical blunder that I've ever seen from a team. The whole of UAE coaching staff should be firmly fired.

Having said that Simon was incredible. And it just goes to show how ****e I am at this stuff that I thought he had no chance.
I had both Yates in my original lineup but took them out to get Mads Pederson in.

Meanwhile in the Tour of Norway, Mathew has gone 2nd, 1st and 2nd in the first three stages. Currently the leader in GC, Points & Youth.

Today he controlled the whole peloton. He’s only going to get better

Did you guys know he was only 19?

Thought about Simon (not Adam), but took him out because @Sand shamed me pre-race.

Without looking at the other teams, that's probably not enough - probably finish In the bottom half of FBGs; will be lucky to podium.

Most Grand Tours everyone gets between 1k & 2K End-of-Tour points, but this was a weird one to handicap so I imagine it will be lower than normal.

The only thing I can think is they didn’t think Wout would make it over in front of them. Once he did, it was game over. The whole UAE team was cooked though and couldn’t even give any meaningful pulls.

EF basically made the same blunder as well (though to a lesser extent). I get that they were trying to make Del Toro respond, but when he didn’t Carapaz had to get back to Yates. Maybe it wouldn’t have mattered though.

Carapaz played it fine. There is really no difference for him between 2nd and 3rd. He played chicken and put the onus on Del Toro.

What is going on in here and why am I tagged in it for a comment I said about Rashee Rice? I’m so confused
:oldunsure:
1) I was in the process of quoting you in the Rice thread and got distracted and forgot I had that qued up.

2) I'm trying to get you interested in cycling. There will be a FBG fantasy contest for the Tour de France with prizes in July. Since I regularly win your contests you deserve a chance for turnabout.

I’m afraid I’m only a fan of old-school cycling. If they aren’t constantly doing steroids, the sport becomes very boring. I like my cyclist to have one nut.

Oh, we have you covered there. These guys are generating W/Kg that dwarf one nutters and set records up climbs.

What is going on in here and why am I tagged in it for a comment I said about Rashee Rice? I’m so confused

My team name is Armstrong’s Needle. The dope is so good these days, they can’t detect it. The Dr in the night still has a job.

I'm new to the strategy, but I can't agree with this.

Affini with a massive leadout today

Olav is the fastest guy in the race but bunch sprints are truly a team effort

Big smile from WvA from the back watching that unfold
