Official Alshon Jeffery - The Bandwagon (1 Viewer)

Hamstring injury today.

So Alshon Jeffery has dealt with calf (x2), groin, hamstring (x2), and shoulder injuries. Had a hamstring ailment earlier in the year, now has another. Had the obvious calf thing earlier and was dealing with that coming into this week.

The guy is a big target hog when healthy, but he's been banged up a ton this year. I doubt I'll own him on many teams next year as I will downgrade him a good amount in my rankings regardless of what situation he ends up in because of his clear durability concerns. If he falls to my liking, I'll take him, but I doubt I'll own him on many teams next season.
I will need to see him seek out some personal training help that targets the soft tissue injuries if I draft him again next year. This helped Isaac Bruce in the middle of his career a great deal.
Interesting coincidence via rotoworld:

Bears instituted a new program to limit soft-tissue injuries prior to the season.
The program has won plaudits from many players inside the building, but it has done nothing to help Alshon Jeffery, who is set to miss another game with yet another soft-tissue injury. Matt Forte suggested players not seeing the benefits of the program may not be doing everything they can at home. "You can do all that, but when you go home, if you’re doing knucklehead stuff and not taking care of your body, it’s going to show the effects," Forte said. "It’s not really gonna take an effect if you’re doing it here and you go home and don’t take care of yourself." Forte was not talking directly about Jeffery, but the timing of the comments are interesting. Jeffery battled weight issues in and will have missed six games in his contract year after Sunday. Those issues could hurt his value in negotiations with the Bears or other teams if he hits the open market.

Oh gee, looks who's doubtful for the championship... Garbage.
Oh gee, are all the other injured players -- many of whom are on IR -- also garbage?
Sweet strawman. Well, 12 weeks this year he's been questionable or worse mostly because of soft tissue injuries in a contract year. Also persistent bemoaning about being unhappy in Chicago. That equates to garbage for me.
It's not a strawman. I'm mocking you, because your comment was ridiculous.

Alshon has averaged 17.6 ppg in PPR this year, including 4 games in the 20s. Yes, he's missed six games including this week, but lots of guys miss games. It's football.

And he played all 16 games in 2013 and 2014. He's not some injury-prone player made of glass, and he's certainly not "garbage."

First contract year and first time to prove he's a #1 without Marshall on the other side. This is what this guy brings to the table? Garbage

What he brought to the table was 6 receptions, 90 yards and a half-TD per game in the games he played.

Guys get injured. Calling him garbage because he's had one injury-hit season after playing 32 games the previous two seasons is ridiculous.

Some of you guys make me laugh with your sour grapes cause you didn't draft enough depth at WR knowing this guy's injury/conditioning history. Let's look at the facts:

-He's been dumped on for his conditioning since he entered the league

-He had 2 seperate hamstring flare-ups on Chicago's injury report last season (one early in the year, one late in the year), this after brief knee issues in 2012 and ankle issues in 2013.

Add 1-and-1, and the writing was on the wall with this one. You dug your own grave taking a guy like him and not drafting depth.

If I were an Alshon owner I'd be concerned about what a 2016 season with  a franchise-tagged Jeffrey will look like. After an injury plagued contract year in 2015, we may be looking at the same injury prone Jeffrey in 2016, only now disgruntled. This situation screams "avoid" to me.

2016: Alshon gets tagged, and isn't pleased. He holds out, misses training camp and the usual conditioning. In his first game action, whenever that may be, he "pulls a hammy" or "tweaks something". The rest of the season is injury riddled much like 2015, always on the doubtful side of questionable. He plays less than he did in 2015, and when he does play he's less productive. All the while there are rumblings that he's healthier than he's admitting, doing just enough to avoid fines as he awaits his eventual big contract somewhere else in 2017.

2017 and beyond: Playing under a big contract for a team like Cleveland, Detroit, etc Alshon Jeffrey fades back into fantasy WR2 territory, remaining oft injured, and never realizing his potential leaving fantasy owners forever frustrated.

He is either a top WR or about to be, love watching him.

54 catches for 807 yards does not make a top WR and if you drafted him there...I understand the anger or frustration.

I was blown away that he could succeed even if the D smothered him. To me that's a sign of one of the top WRs in football. Many so called top WRs can't. They go against this team or that team and throw up a 2-3 catch for 30 yards game. Calvin, Andre, now DeAndre, Julio, Antonio...it is totally on the QB. They're gonna get theirs if he throws it. If you didn't catch Bears games, I don't know if it's as obvious in the stats but he had a zillion defenders on him or moving to him by the time the ball was there.

I like Marc Mariani for his hustle and ST play. It was nice to see him play WR but make no mistake about it, the D was all over Alshon those weeks. Forte often runs a screen same side as him or up N out right where he just cleared out. Langford was a step down in Ds respect, til they gave it to him.

AJ Green does not always produce. Eifert and he both look so close to being dominant but they get shut down some weeks still. A traffic catch, a reach where the arm seems to grow like plasticman, they'll look unstoppable and then pfff for the rest of the game. It's part of maturing (sometimes it never comes) or developing and I am very curious of them next year. They both make me apprehensive of both FA WRs coming from Cincy, those FAs should have done better IMO.

Marquess Wilson broke out a few times. He went from looking like a big track star to actually playing WR and really stepped up.

Zach Miller looked like his ol self some weeks and other weeks it felt like they didn't throw him the ball.

I don't like Cutler one bit or the offense and how he perceives it. It is almost too much 'hot hand' stuff. There is no concept that 3 or 4 guys can have nice weeks and they could be a top O, it's more like some NBA version of an NFL offense feeding a star over n over while the others stand around. Watch the Thunder? Westbrook gets his and if it's not there then it goes to Durant. Most weeks the Bears were the same, Forte/Langford get theirs, if not then it goes to Alshon. Cutler's been around, he can read a D. It infuriates me that ya don't even see his head swivel. Wilson could be so open he's doing cartwheels and if Cutler is locked on Alshon he wouldn't know. Miller is a TE, he's only at most getting a step. it will never be some huge gap and waving his hand hey look at me. Garbage utter garbage offense. Only way Wilson or Miller get passes is if it's their turn to be stared at. Again this is why Alshon is special, you know it's going there, the D knows it, and that guy grabs it anyway. I guess some credit could be given to Cutler for somehow staring down WRs and completing them but I'm not about that. It's a team game and he isn't playing it that way.

As far as his contract, at first franchised guys get grumpy yeah but that wears off in camp if not sooner. There's only so long a guy can be angry he's one of the top five highest players at his position. Enough paychecks and that goes away.

The Bears need to find a way to eat Cutler's contract and get a new QB. He makes too much. What's Daniel want? Most every backup QB in the NFL makes less than a mil now. Sign five, draft a couple, make it a free for all and see who stands up. It's such garbage that he is the top QB and makes 17 mil. And the logic better off with him than with nothing and being stuck...oh that's like me trying to find a way to happily pay $100 for an apple at the store. It is no good, period. Not if ya keep him, not if ya let him go. So "take it" and be all set for next year.

The terrible horrible pathetic Bears actually have some players. Way too many to re-sign but if they do and they add some pieces this team could totally surprise in 16 or 17. Despite the perception, they really do have some pieces and just need to make progress.

Predicting injuries usually works out well.

So he'll be so pissed about being paid top 5 money at his position, he'll jeopardize his future payday?Sounds like a brilliant plan.

Wrong on almost every level here.

As an Alshon owner, I am nowhere near concerned. In fact, I am excited about his future. I don't subscribe to the chicken little mentality, worrying about every possible negative outcome in the universe regarding a player. His soft tissue issues were disappointing but don't change his amazing potential. I swear, I was supposed to be worried year one because he was too fat. Then I was suppose to be worried because Brandon Marshall was stealing targets. Then it was he wouldn't be able to handle double coverage. Then it was Cutler. Then it was Bennett, Kevin White, and Forte phasing him out of the game. When can I stop worrying? Enough!!! The guy is a stud. End of story.

Yep.  I am so bitter I let myself get down on him as a rookie.  I was all over him and when he went to CHI I totally let the situation scare me off.  Never again.

it seems like you're mad - at your self about something. Stop it.

kid is a stud WR .. Played hurt all year and anytime he was on the field he was tops. He needs to learn NFL offseason work - that's nothing new. Go ahead and shy away, but keep your pessimistic shiiiiiiiity point of view away from here.

Alshon catches anything around him. Doesn't matter the QB or system - he had done conditioning issues, fine. He's the next Brandon Marshall. Lock.

Seems like you're trying to convince yourself that a 26 year old player who "still needs to learn NFL offseason work" after having a disappointing, injury riddled contract year isn't a major red flag.

It isn't. Create a worry thread somewhere else and wait for the sky to fall. Alshon Jeffery is a 26 year old beast who will dominate wherever he plays.

LOL  There are some seriously crazy people here.  Jeffery is a top 10 WR and will be again this year if he stays healthy.  Health is my only concern and it's not even that big of a concern.

Alshon got bad advice.  This hurts his chances of getting a deal.
The Bears are less likely to offer him a long term deal because he didn't show up for voluntary workouts?

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you.

Alshon played out his contract.  He was franchised.  There is a July 15 (I think) deadline to get a long term deal done.  Until that time, any public posturing is frankly useless, as we have seen much more contentious spring talk by franchise free agents than this, and almost all of them somehow kiss and make up in early July.  Almost all.

If you bet money on franchise players signing long term deals at the last minute, no matter what is said publicly before that, you'd make a lot of money.

Alshon hasn't done anything out of line at all.

Fox and Pace have made it clear they want him there.  That's not good that he's not there.   You're probably right, though. He'll get a deal.  In my eyes,  if management wants you there and you were injured last season,  it's a good idea to be there.

usually, yes.  It's been said that Fox views these voluntary workouts to be not-so-voluntary.  He should be there to make the coach happy and to work with his team.  But that probably doesn't prevent a deal.  For lesser players it might, but this is their best player.

How can you blame the guy for not being there? You think Chicago will give him a long term deal if he blows out an ACL in voluntary OTAs?

It's business just as much for the players as it is for the organization.

None of it really matters right now.  If they don't get a long term deal done then he is still under contract to play this year.  Next year they can work on a contract again or tag him again.  This shouldn't really be an issue again until next year.

Detroit next season.
I hope not, doesn't seem worth the price with Tate and Jones already here. I guess we will see how the 2016 Lions season plays out, but I don't like the idea of the Lions breaking the bank on a WR. I think the Rams would be a very likely destination. They are desperate for a #1 WR for their new franchise QB.

   especially as they won't be getting one of the top prospects in the 2017 draft.

I couldnt get anything for him in preseason last year BEFORE his injuries.Stuck with him now.riding the storm out. When he plays he dominates. Frauds are in all sports..not just NFL .Jose Reyes lit it up his last year with the Mets.got a huge contract and wet the bed ever since. His skills didnt suddenly fall off once he got a big payday.they hit the gas some years, while in  other years they coast .

I think Alshon coasted last year.he KNEW he was to be franchised and thus earn top 5 WR money in 2016. whether he went all our or not he was going to be franchised.probably will be the same guy this season.so my guess is hes horrible this season so they release him and hes born again elsewhere in '17.

Whther he is a pro bowl player or a bum in '16 he still makes top 5 Wr money. So why go all out then it just gives chicago the incentive to franchise him again next season.his only hope to get out of town , short of a trade, that is ,  is to be released.the only way hes released is if he stinks it up in 2016.basically sandbagging it ..

I just talked myself out of keeping him this year in dynasty leagues..lol

I don't really understand this at all. Why couldn't you get anything for him in dynasty? He had an ADP of 28th player drafted last year and he was young, seems like that should equal dynasty gold. Also, why do you think he coasted last year? Based on standard fantasy ppg he was better than 2014. In the 9 games he played (not totally healthy) he was on pace for 1400 yards and 7 TDs which is basically exactly what he did in 2013. Alshon might be the he most consistent player over the last 3 years. He just was hurt last year.

That's surprising.  I gave a 1st + (package deal) for him a few months ago and people thought I ripped the other guy off.

Organizations usually know their players best. This would concern me as a Jeffery owner that a deal was not struck.
As a Jeffrey owner my only concern is can he stay on the field. His per game numbers are easily top ten in the league. I'm not going to be upset if the Bears don't re-sign him & he goes to a team not coached by one of the most conservative coaches in the league. I'd assume the Bears are looking to see if he can play a full 16 games & also if White can light it up & be a #1 WR. If White shows the potential this year, maybe the Bears try to save some money & let Jeffrey walk.
