Official Alshon Jeffery - The Bandwagon (1 Viewer)

#Bears No alshon Jeffery out for early practice after muscle tightness Wed. Reader: maybe his private offseason wkouts not so effective?

Exactly why Bears didn't sign him long-term

Man I hope White doesn't break a long one in preseason...I like his ADP right where it is.
A big play by White combined with Alshon missing practices/preseason will send White up a round, maybe 2.

Good call on Al. You have been down on him. He's making me nervous.

Maybe. It strikes me that he might be just trying to protect himself from long term injury until he gets the security of a long term contract.

Not saying it's right, but it is understandable.

Nothing to worry about.  Not enough details on what's going on to be that concerned.  They have been very cautious with everyone in camp right now.

He's awesome when he's healthy but he's injury prone and shows a lack of toughness at times.  You have to be available
Can't make the club from the tub. I'll cross my finger because it seems like if he can just get that 1 healthy year, he could be post a beautiful 90/1300/10 season.

He has posted numbers like that already twice in his four seasons - with one of the times that he didn't being as a raw rookie and the other being last season when he was injured.

So in-between his rookie season and last season he posted 89-1,421-7 and 85-1,113-10 seasons.

Right. I undersold what he could do. Maybe more 100-1500-12 has dream season.

I am leaning towards the notion that he is gonna play hard in the hopes of landing a long-term big dollar contract next offseason.

However if he keeps missing practice time I think he could start off slow and not reach his true potential.  Maybe a target to try and trade for around week 5 or 6 if he starts slow.  Plus it's possible that Kevin White caps his stats a little bit.

I'm not worrying yet. There's a month to the season, and he's talented enough to consistently beat DB's even out of rhythm with the QB.

His minor sift tissue injuries usually turn into season long problems.  I doubt he participates much for the rest of the preseason.

Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) returned to practice Monday.
Jeffery spent almost a week on the sidelines with a "mild hamstring" injury. It is great he was able to return so quickly, but it is a reminder of how susceptible he has been to soft-tissue injuries. Jeffery is still a borderline WR1 because of his weekly upside, but he is a risky pick in the second round.

He's amazing when he's on the field.  Tall.  Great ball skills.  Can jump over everyone

Josh Gordon put up numbers with Hoyer as well.  As backup QBs go, this is not that bad of a situation.  He will continue to get peppered with targets and they will have negative game scripts all season long.  He had a sure TD on his long catch last night if Cutler hadn't been pressured out of the pocket.  Still very bullish.

I got a weird feeling Alshon is going to be traded to either my Chargers or another team here real soon. Bears aren't going anywhere...I can see it happening.

I'm not seeing an Alshon trade.  They kept Forte and Bennett during their fire sale last season.  Alshon still has plenty of long term value and is on a franchise tag.

Alshon Jeffery (knee) was downgraded to "DNP" in Thursday's practice.

Jeffery was "limited" on Wednesday. "Just something that we're monitoring," coach John Fox said, apparently seeking a competitive advantage. "We'll see what tomorrow brings." It's unknown when Jeffery suffered his latest "injury." No player in the league gets listed with more random practice ailments. It's possibly just gamesmanship on the part of the Bears. For now, we'd still consider Jeffery likely to suit up against the Cowboys, but it can't be considered a given. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, Chicago is playing in the Sunday night game.

He's under the franchise tag.  No team would trade for him as I believe they would have to give up their next two first round picks or something like that.

And so it begins....knee injury, DNP - welcome to hell, Jeffery owners....

Last year he was listed as probable many of the weeks he didn't play. The NFL got rid of that designation, so at least he's only questionable for the next 2 months.

Yep, Alshon didn't practice today.

Thursday downgrades are always troubling, especially with an injury history like Jeffery's.

This dude was the bane of my existence last year.

I vowed that I would not draft him in any league this year - not because he got hurt. Players get hurt. More because of the way Fox tries to be coy and F's with everyone about the playing status and injury. He played pretty fast and loose with the injury report every week, he never, ever gave an accurate update, and IIRC, Jefferey's hammy injury was referred to as "mild" or "minor" all preseason - this went into the regular season, and became a running joke.

I am under the impression that teams can restructure that trade offer.......So if that is true, teams could possibly negotiate to get him. Do you know? Thanks

Nope.  He's just a FA at the end of the season with one FT down and one to go, although if traded the new team would certainly require an extension be agreed upon first.

I was responding to the comment about the Bears trading Jeffery.  In order to trade Jeffery he would have to be on the team.  He is tagged at the moment and could be traded.  At the end of the season the Bears would have to get him to sign a long term deal or could tag him again.  If they don't do that then he would be a free agent.  Currently he is a non-exclusive tagged player.

  • A "non-exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five cap hits at the player's position for the previous five years applied to the current salary cap, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. A non-exclusive franchise player may negotiate with other NFL teams, but if the player signs an offer sheet from another team, the original team has a right to match the terms of that offer, or if it does not match the offer and thus loses the player, is entitled to receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.

Next year, yes.  Since you used present tense in your comment I though you meant if he were traded during this season, in which case only the trade terms would apply.

Even if they tag him and do a trade next year, it's almost certain the other team offers less than the two firsts.
