5% BR bets that the syndicate is making is just crazy to me. You almost have to stay away from big dogs and play games around the mendoza line to not hit a cold spell. I don't mind football 5% bets, but in baseball you can EASILY go 0-10, 0-15 in the course of a few days. But, you're successful and have guys who know what they're doing, so who am I to question you guys.
5% was my suggestion - mainly because it was just a handful of plays a day and losing the bankroll was not anything close to the end of the world dollarwise. We looked at the goal of the project and 5% was perfect.
I still think 5% is nuts in any sport, let alone bases. You have such a greater chance of going broke because of the full card everyday. Football is alright to me because it's 20 full cards (in the NFL). Less chance of going 0-20 or even 0-15 and going broke. I will never understand a 5% BR for bases - your limited in what you can play. I don't have to dig up the "streak" stats of hitting a bad patch, you already know them.As for me last season in bases, yeh I played for the last 4 months (didn't quit - the vaunted Yanks made me a lot of money in the playoffs), but when I played I didn't do it half ###. I put in 6 hr days shopping and making tons of plays. I generally did beat the closing lines and yes I learned a lot from pros who know more than me. I not only made money, but I learned a lot about how much different baseball is than any other sport. You give me one sport to only bet and I would easily turn to baseball.
Wager your money however you'd like, I just think 5% is crazy for bases.
Difference between me and you....I'm doing this for fun. You are not. To me, it's a hobby. To you, it's work. I wish I had 6 hours a day to shop lines, make plays and scalp online sites but I don't. Actually, scratch that. I'm glad I don't have 6 hours a day to do that. if I did, man....I might shoot myself. I learned long ago that a steady salary, benefits and a family beat scratching by as a gambler with no dental plan.
5% of my bankroll is not very much money. It's about 1/3 an hour's worth of work currently, though if JTC and I have a good day, it might inch closer to 1/2 an hour (GO DRAYS!). If we poopoo the bed and lose every bet today, we'll be even for the year. If we poopoo the bed several days in a row and lose everything, then good. We deserve it for sucking so bad. Even then, it's not a loss either of us will take on the chin because, as I said from the onset, this is just for kicks. While my unit size might be just 5% of my total bankroll, my total bankroll to start the season is only 0.25% of my total annual income. And do you know why it's such a tiny amount?
BECAUSE I HAVE NO DESIRE TO BE A PROEFESSIONAL GAMBLER. I'M ONLY DOING THIS FOR FUN. I AM OLD AND MARRIED AND HAVE LITTLE TO NO LIFE AFTER 9PM. BETWEEN WATCHING TIVO'D GENERAL HOSPITAL WITH MY LOVELY WIFE AND TRYING TO GET MY HELLCATS TO GO TO SLEEP, I CAN SPEND A FEW MINUTES CHECKING THE COMPUTER FOR BOX SCORES AND GETTING MY KICKS IN!
Life is supposed to be fun, especially for kids your age. You are growing up bitter and jaded and spending way too much time taking yourself too seriously. Go out and bust a nut in some coed's ear. Go take some acid and listen to Pink Floyd at full blast while playing old fashioned Atari Games. Shotgun a beer and then go get in a fight. Light something on fire. Go get a dog and then use that dog to go pick up hot lonely married women who want to do you just because you haven't grown a beer belly and a bald spot. I'd gnaw off an arm to be your age again, you know that? Why on earth you've chosen to act 15 years older than Gambler and 6 hours a day studying baseball lines is way beyond me. We're here to have fun. Betting on baseball is fun for me. Is it any fun for you?
