Official Brandon LaFell - I just... LaFell in love. (1 Viewer)

Yesterday was like watching him back when he was in Carolina. The fastest way to kill a drive was to throw to an open Brandon Lafell on third down, because he'd drop the pass.

Unless there is some sort of psychological issue, he will be a steal. 8 targets in his first week?!!? That is a wr 1 or 2 on most teams. If he hauled in 3 more of those balls he would have had a nice week in ppr. Also, the offense is going to open up with him in there instead of Dobson and Amendola.

Gotta love the targets. He's startable now.
Not every team has a Revis and Cromartie tandem where the 3rd and 4th options would get that many targets though.
Brady is averaging over 40 passes per game this season
Oh I know and I'm not LaFell won't get some, I'm just not sold on being startable all the time with that many drops and also without Lewis in the lineup.
If you believe the drops are here to stay, then avoid. But Lafell produced very well when Vereen was around as a pass-catching back. I think the one x factor is Amendola, who's had a bit of a resurgence lately. But I'll take my chances.

Dobson seemed to be in the game more in the 2nd half. I don't think Dobson is the answer but I wonder how long LaFells leash if the drops continue.

74 catches last year, 7 TDs, averaged 60 yards/game. He started only 13 games (probably worked up to starter since the team was new). That's workable.

Last year:

Edelman, 134 targets, 11 drops

Lafell, 119 targets, 3 drops

Bilichick will give Lafell another shot.

A good play this week or what?
I cannot see LaFell being a "good" play this week. I'd rather seem him evolve and earn the trust back. Definitely a contrarian play as not many will own or start him this week. He's too far down the rankings. He's seen more as a WR 4 or 5 right now, with upside when things begin to click again. Bench hold material.

Most people play real fantasy football..... :oldunsure:

Bold move starting him this week, but if your options are middling WR3/4s then ho for it. I'm holding him as a WR5 ATM but plan on using him to cover two bye weeks down the road. For reference I have a couple top ten WRs and in future weeks I'll be deciding between LaFell and Benjamin/Diggs for the WR3. If you have a guy this week in the 30-40 range why not go for some upside?

Yeah, I'm pretty much forced to start him this week. Arob and jmatt are on bye so it might be a decent play. Redemption from last week.

It was his first game back, and those weren't all easy catches," Brady said. "He's been great here and we're going to keep finding ways to get him the ball."

Whenever the Pats decide they want to get someone the ball they do it in excess ... Lafell should have a huge week

Dolphins CB Brice McCain (knee) is inactive for Week 8 against the Patriots.

McCain had been expected to return after missing Week 7. His absence thrusts Jamar Taylor into the starting lineup. Taylor figures to be targeted early and often by Tom Brady. Also inactive for the Dolphins are LB Chris McCain, C Sam Brenner, TE Jake Stoneburner, OL Jeff Linkenbach, WR Matt Hazel and DT A.J. Francis.

Taylor on LeFell side?

I took a risk and started him. I am going to have to leave theoretically better players on the bench. Probably a stupid move on my part, but I am really intrigued by the fact he saw 8 targets last week.

I know the yards aren't there, but the targets are. Hopefully there will more 20 yard passes and not as many 1 yard gains.

I'd be willing to bet that there will be a couple of games this season where he gets 80+ yards and a TD or two. Guessing which games those are will drive you nuts.

Until he can prove he has a niche in this offense as a go-to weapon, it's hard to put him in your lineup as anything but a desperation filler.

I'm not a big Lafell proponent, but this offense is BEGGING for a WR2.

I love Dola but he is too similar to Edelman.

The second Lafell starts jiving in the offense and imo its when not if - I think the Pats will click into an even higher gear.

If they get a 2nd wr opposite Edelman who is a bigger body and can catch and run, along with Gronk and Lewis...well...then fuggettaboutit. They will run the table.

LaFell didn't practice in training camp and missed the first six weeks of the season. I would guess he will be fine after he gets his sea legs back and gets in game shape.

Look at the game logs last year. 1st two games he had 14 targets 4 catches. Went over 100 with TD in the KC, disaster, 1 catch the next week. Thereafter he was s FF WR2 (& IRL pretty much matched Edlelman's production.) finished WR22, WR 20 PPG.

Seems right on schedule to me. I'll start him week 11 to cover a bye & see how it plays out after Thanksgiving.

Why was he playing behind Dobson and Harper..... I was in and out of sleep and didn't see much of the game. Lost by .2 though and find out he didn't play much of the first half...?

Anybody have any insight on this?

It didnt appear to me he was playing behind any other NE WRs. The NE offense looked headscratchingly bad in the first half, and average at best overall this week. Certainly credit due to BUF, but they seemed out of sync. I was going against Blount in my league and was wondering if he was a late scratch because I swear he didnt even touch the ball in the first half.

Anyhow, Amendola and Dobson's injuries should only bump Lafell even more.

I think they came out in the first possession trying a few things out.

The entire first drive looked choreographed every play had multiple presnap motions.

Is it the two TE two WR sets that he doesn't play in? I think they were running a lot of that.

Anyway, one would think he would have a little more hype behind him right now. Kind of flying under the radar, unless people aren't expecting him to have a break out.
