Sabathia pitching today and Sheets being ineffective hurts the Brewers.

Hamels being able to go Game One helps the Phils.

Howard is swinging a hot bat. Is there anyone raking like that for the Brewers?

The Phils bullpen seems to be superior to the Brewers.

Keys to the Phils.

They have to score runs for Hamels and make the most of his starts.

Utley needs to make amends for last years playoffs.

Phillies in four.

I'll take the Phils here as MIL should only be able to use CC in one game unless it goes 5, but I'm gonna be rooting for Milwaukee for sure - hard to not like this team and the guys on it. Phils have the much better bullpen and a much deeper lineup. I say Phils in 4 with Milwaukee winning game 2 (CC pitches).

Maybe not as hot as Howard (no one really in the majors is as hot as Howard lately) but Braun has been big. Right now I'd take Fielder + Braun over Howard+Utley.

Anyone got a link to the schedule and probably starters? Sabathia probably starts games 2 and 5?
I think that would be the likely strategy. Maybe Gallardo takes on Game 1 as he pitched pretty well in his last start. I think McClung deserves a start in 3 or 4 after the way he pitched on Friday. Sheets takes the other game if healthy. I do think they'll try to throw him in there if possible, but if not, maybe Suppan again. I'm not sure if Bush or Parra are under consideration.

The word around the campfire is that Utley has been playing injured and is just worn down. On the local radio, Mitch Williams said that in the locker room, Utley makes Cole Hamels look like Barry Bonds. He would have Utley report to next years Spring Training 25lbs overweight.

I read tonight on one of the scrolls on local TV that Sheets confirmed he is done for the year.

So if Game 2 is Thursday, does Sabathia come back on 3 days rest again?

CC could pitch game 1 and 3 (and 5 if necessary)... you realize that, right? He's been pitching at that rate already...

The Brewers won't have Sabathia next year, and they may not have a shot this good for a long time. I don't see them having any qualms about seriously abusing his arm in these playoffs.

:lmao: no, larry. They're not pitching him on two days rest, and then turning around and pitching him on two days rest again. That said, he's getting to the point of unsignable for me this off-season, at least at the price he'll want. They are just killing him. :blackdot:

Actually, Melvin and Sveum went to him and asked him well ahead of time about starting on short rest. I'm sorry I don't have a link, but I know I heard or saw Melvin say that. CC completely agreed with them and wanted the ball if it mattered. He's smart enough to realize that he's already cemented as a lifelong hero of Wisconsin sports fans, and that goes a long way. And let's not forget that it really wasn't THAT long ago that pitchers routinely pitched on three days rest. If ever there were a throwback kind of player, CC qualifies. And in this pitching-starved environment, he'll have no problem getting paid.Matt

Philly sports talking heads are reporting that if the Phils win game 1, CC will pitch G2 on 3 days rest.. If the Brewers win game one, they will save him till game 3 on Saturday..

Perhaps the Philly sports radio guys have some inside info, but it doesn't make sense to me to use him in game three when they could pitch him twice - games 2 and 5 - on three days rest. For those that didn't see the game yesterday, the Brewers actually let Sabathia lead off in the bottom of the 8th inning when the game was tied 1-1. He is the only reliable arm they have right now.

Suddenly this morning Wisconsin-Ohio St. tickets seem to have become much more readily available in Milwaukee. This should be a good guage as to whether I'm on my lawyers' A-list or B-list.

I doubt Parra is, but I can't think of any reason Bush wouldn't be pitching. I'm predicting Yo, CC, Bush, Suppan/McClung, CC.

CC was asked right after the game ended by FSN's tv crew if he could pitch on short rest again and he said that he absolutely could... in fact, I think he said he wanted to...

1) Yo

2) CC

3) Bush

4) Soup

5) CC

Also, as a lifelong Brewer fan I am content. I have my postseason tickets (4 to each game) and am reading and rocking.

This is why I like the Brewers chances here, and it isn't because they've been playing incredibly well lately. In the three games at Philadelphia, we have Yovani and CC twice, and both of those guys have an ERA under 2 in 2008 NL play. Then the other two games are at home, where the Brewers have played much better than on the road, especially in September. I like their odds of coming away with wins in three of those games.

The light rain has subsided but it's still windy and appears to be blowing in from left.

Hamels has retiredthe first 9 and Ruiz gets the first hit of the game in the bottom of the third.

Just a few inches away from getting out of that with no runs scored.....#################################

As a biased Phils fan, I might have to mute Smoltz. Burrell showed a lot of restraint and Smoltz says he was lucky he didn't swing at a great pitch.

TV says that Phils ground crew thinks they have an hour before next weather system moves through. Weather looks OK there now.
